2011 European Battle.net Invitational: Day Two Round-Up

2011 European Battle.net Invitational: Day Two Round-Up

The 2011 European Battle.net Invitational has come to an end, but what an exciting end it was. We now know who will be travelling to BlizzCon to compete in the event there, and they all thoroughly deserve it.

Firstly, WoW team Showtime pulled out all the stops and defeated the finalists from the Consolation Bracket, DNAW Trio. The runners up fought valiantly, making Showtime work hard for their victory. They managed to win a match, making the score 2:1 to Showtime, but were beaten in the following game. Both teams will get to take part in the Global Battle.net Invitational during BlizzCon in October.

In StarCraft II, Tarson went up against Naniwa in the Consolation Bracket and was defeated 0:2. Naniwa went on to play against Thorzain, who was previously beaten by Ret in the Championship Bracket. Naniwa also walked away from that match with a 2:1 victory, and entry into the Grand Final.

Both Ret and Naniwa seemed icy cool as they began the Grand Final match, each walking on stage to a rapturous reception. However, Ret won the first match after catching Naniwa off-guard. The second match was over even quicker, as Naniwa tried a new tactic which, sadly, just didn’t pay off. Ret hardly seemed to break a sweat as he won the Grand Final 2:0.

As with the WoW finalists, both Ret and Naniwa will take part in the Global Battle.net Invitational at BlizzCon. We’ll see you there!

Don't forget to catch up on the replays, match brackets and more over on the official 2011 European Battle.net Invitational site.

I don't want to push my chips forward but I have watched all 3 invitationals, and I think in general Europe performed better. Naniwa seems to be the best Protoss and Ret the best zerg... Question is there only 8 players at blizzcon ? 2 from each region or is there more ? I heard something about qualifications or something ? and is it best of 3s or best of 5s ?

I tend to watch a lot of both starcraft and wow-tournaments on my free time and I did of course not miss this awesome Invitational-tournament. But there was one thing that really made me happy, and it wasn't the awesome play by all the gamers who attended - it was the crowd - I have never seen such an cheerful, happy and just pure awesome crowd as the people in Poland. So I really hope that we get to see more tournaments in Warsaw and Poland because they really deserves to host such events as these. Big cheer for them!

@Mayseé: I can not agree more with you, I watched almost everything of the event. Missed a couple of minutes perhaps because I had to get something to eat, haha.
And at first I was eager for the WoW arena's, but after watching like 2 matches I was like bored with it already.. The SC2 battles on the other hand, amazing <3 Ret is such an amazing player, and ye, I'm dutch, he's dutch, guess who I hoped would win the tournament :P

Back to the topic, you're absolutely right. The crowd was amazing, they gave everything and I had a lot of joy watching this event.

Blizzard, more events like these in Warsaw, Poland please!!

@Musial: I love how your analogy of calling someone a nerd made you out to be a waaaaay bigger one rofl, thorzain has 1000s of fans because of sc2

This is one of the main reasons I'm a gamer. For the people you meet and the great times. I used to have a girlfriend who thought It was a waste of my life and time. Yes I have an addiction but I have never let it take over my life and focus on careers. Many thanks to all the organizers and people that attended this event to show people that us nerds aren't just low life's that hide away in a hovel. LONG LIVE NERDS!

I've brought back many cherishable memories from this event. It was awesome! Amazing games, incredible atmosphere. You could feel the bond of nerdhood in the air and felt you were part of a legitimate community. Regards to the organizers, players, commentators, and all the fantastic folks I met there. ^.^

Sunday was amazing and I'm really happy it happened in Poland where I could go with little to no problems. Blizzard missed an opportunity to make some money though - if there was merchandise lots of people would surely buy something, me included. Well, I got some stickers though :D
And the audience was absolutely awesome.

As much as I loved to watch this event, especially starcraft 2 event. (wow was boring as hell, I hate arena, and you don't see a thing interresting, who even watch this ?). I'm not pulling 40E just to watch sc2 tournament at blizzcon... too god damn expensive! Also it is nice to have the players talk, it is great even Terminator-like dudes like Naniwa, but everything else in between is useless and it takes way too damn long to get from one round to another, you are stuck all afternoon, just to watch a couple of matches.

I wonder if Naniwa would put off that evil killer look of his face for once if he won:O
Good matches and good fun
