Blizzard Announces 2012 Battle.net World Championship Event

Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, a major global eSports event featuring some of the best pro-gaming competition in the world. Slated to take place in Asia toward the end of 2012, the Battle.net World Championship will host this year’s StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments. Blizzard gamers and eSports fans from around the world will be invited to attend and witness some of the most skilled pro players on the planet battle it out for cash and glory.

We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.

More details about the 2012 Battle.net World Championship and BlizzCon 2013, including specific dates and locations, will be coming in the months ahead.

I was curious to know that if you had to purchase a digital blizzcon ticket are you still eligible to the WoW pet and Starcraft portraits?

People, a lot of others are upset about this being closed down, as am I. But that doesn't mean you have to give Blizzard mouth about it. If it was still going on, you people would be complaining about when the new games came out. Be happy with the fact you'll be getting new games and the fact that there's always Blizzcon next year.

Seeing as your not doing BlizzCon this year I feel you should make it up to your fans by giving us a pet or mount for your silly excuses. You guys have always had things going on during the BlizzCon event nothing has changed your just being lazy. I am seriously not impressed, I never actually knew about the BlizzCon events till last years ended and was thoroughly looking forward to my first event and I now have to wait over another year.

This is a slap in the face to loyal fans of blizzard games no BlizzCon, this year. Packed schedule is just a lame excuse. Its plain to see in my view you are concentrating on the Asian market. Thats why the next expansion MOP thats were you focus is now. This shows the real face of the Activision Blizzard we don't care. All we care about is what is in your wallets and purses. Am sure you have upset a lot of loyal fans over this poor decision.

I do not like at all, that 2012 Battle.net World Championship will be toward the end of 2012. I had a feeling, that HotS will not come out before this event :(((((((

@Futrzak.

Yeah I do think it would be great for them to release games now and then on a monthly basis but I doubt that wind up as a good idea at all. (E.G: Wrath of the Lichking ---> Cataclysm 1 month after LK Patch.) + They have released many games this year as well as the scheduled WoW expac. release dates. on a yearly basis (rather than a 1 times X amount of years.)

+ What haven't they told you about the games they are planning on releasing? They tell you about MoP before expansion+Diablo+Starcraft and what they are planning on changing/upgrading. I doubt they would tell you the exact game plans, that would make the games much less "looked out for".

(Just my opinion >.>)

I'll start like this - I love your attention to detail and quality. But for the love of god please tell us what you are doing with all our patience invested in you guys. I know you are changing, re-evaluating, building things but I just cannot believe all you have on your project plans is "ASAP". You must have targets for these 3 games. TELL US WHAT THEY ARE!!!

Going back to theme of the first sentence - I know that's impossible because at the end of the day you guys are a business that needs to run and compete so being that open would put you in a vulnerable position. Not to mention all the fury you'd get for publishing the dates and moving them every month.

I love your games, I just want more of them, more often :) Good luck and keep them coming. We'll be here.

sad that blizzcon 2012 dont happen. i hope that blizz will make sure, that the good people from scandinavien, and all other good people around the world, can join the turnaments from home. it will be a big fail from blizz, if we can`t join the games that way!!

An MMORPG should never become an eSport...
It just perpetuates the separation of PvP from PvE, the separation of one wholesome fantasy world into two separate games: a co-op RPG and a PvP arena game where RPG elements don't matter and all gear is bland, unimaginative and boring.

Alas...

Postponing the Blizzcon means that they will have more time left to work on their current games. Seems postive.

That doesnt read like d3 pvp would be a part of it. Sounds like they dont expect d3 to be out when they hold this world championship dez 2012. Fears become truth it seems.

This earns huge respect from me! It is good to hear that you guys are working so hard on these 3 new games/expansions and are even willing to cancel a huge event for Blizzard in order to work on this. Ofcourse it saddens me that there wont be a Blizzcon this year but most definatly a good decision. Most of the people at Blizzard really enjoy Blizzcon and its a once in a year appriciation for all their hard work they did.. it feels like they are giving up on christmas to them and working to get the game done.. +1 respect!

I am indeed very sad to hear there won't be a BlizzCon this year, I was really looking forward to it already.

But I guess I can wait another year if it means I'll get Diablo 3, MoP and HotS faster. :D

Someone posted this on the USA site, couldn't have said it better my self:

Before you make a shock reaction: Think about how much work it is to setup Blizzcon. It's an incredible amount of work. If you've never run a con, you can't even imagine how much it is to setup such a huge thing.

It's a good call, in my opinion. Either they would be late on HotS / Diablo 3 or have a crappy Blizzcon... Blizzard isn't one to compromise on quality.
