"Soulbound" items?

If you get an Authenticator you are pretty safe. If you still get hacked, well.. It's most likely your own fault, but I'm sure Blizzard will have a system in place to track the items and restore them to you.

Soulbound = would slow down inflation

hmm what scares me , what if they sell the item on RMAH quickly by selling them dirt-cheap ,
can blizzard still recover any item in this situation ?

Ok, mushroom cap that i found, i did not find out what they are for, but i can a sure you, it was clearly soul bounded.

Ill be glad to hear some one top that... :)

I hope that items will get bound to your account in some way when you start using them. Otherwise the RMAH would be flooded with second hand items which makes them worthless.

Simple rule of supply and demand.

If items in WoW wouldnt be soulbound then it would be very bad for the economy in the game.

Why would second-hand items be worthless? It's a virtual world, why would you care if the item is second-hand? "Oh no, the previous owner sweated too much in his armor and now it stinks, I don't want to wear it anymore".

No, because obviously if items aren't removed from the economy and keep reappearing on the RMAH they will fall in value due to an increase in supply.

But then again, people are more likely to pay high prices for something they'll be able to sell on themselves later - really depends on how you look at the situation.

Get an authenticator, and that wont be a problem.

will you for example be able to wear it for a couple of levels, then sell it (on AH) when youre done with it?

Yes you can.

From what I've witnessed: so called "hacks" are often done by so called "friends" you were gullible enough to share your email and password with.

Or they venture on shady sites that promise cheats, exploits, gold and other things outlawed by the EULA and blindly fall for the set trap.

But Bound item's main purpose is to make you get the item in the first place as you can only get it from a certain place/event.
While Diablo 3 wants you to go all over the place (and not just farm Dropablo Epicus for the nth time) you get non bound items with totally random stats that might or might not be for your class. You can now chose to destroy, sell, wear or auction the item depending on it's usefullness for you or others.

They are, rapidly.
Most items will be broken down for mats.

What Hushie says. Simple rule of supply and demand.

I have never even played Dablo, but I will be as of next week!

Anyway my take on this is thus. In wow if you get keylogged and someone sells all your equipment, the most powerful of which you will have equipped at some-point and hence it will be bound to you. This means the keylogger can only de and sell the mats or straight up sell the items to a vendor. The influence on anyone other then your character is very minimal.

In Diable, if same thing happens and someone gets access to your account, theycan sell your best equipment to someone else. This has an effect not only on you but on whoever buys it.
I don't have too much knowledge on the way the loots stats work but I'm assuming you can have an item that due to its random stats, can be quite unique, if you get keylogged, some other player gets that item and a GM restore it for you then it will be 1 of 2. Won't that cheapen things a little? The GM can't fairly destroy the version that someone innocently bought.

Maybe there is some way to get around this, I don't know, some way you can choose to make your items account bound by clicking a box or something. If you want to make it go from bound to unbound un-click a box, have the un-clicking option take a couple of days to activate so that if your account gets hacked you have some time to get it sorted before any influence on the community.
The customizing of items someone mentioned would be a good way to do it.

Tooltip: Applying this Decal will mark this item as YOURS and YOURS alone (account bound)
: Removing this decal is arduous work and will take 7 days to complete, upon completion this item will be available to trade.(unbound)

Ladder resets would accomplish the same thing.

just get an authenticator, makes it 100 times more difficult (and thus unprofitable) to "hack" you, they would have to hijack your connection to a blizzard server, placing them inbetween, simulating a blizzard server for you and a client to the blizzard server and use your hijacked athenticator numbers in real time on the blizzard server.

Keylogging can happen to everyone. I thought i was pretty save but one day i found myself "hacked" from god knows what. Had to reformat my whole PC cause i didnt know how it happened and where the kaylogger is located. Next day i bought a authenticator.
