Is there any?
Because as i saw i got the same amount of XP, loot if i have follower. So why not have? Is there any reason in game mechanic for not having a follower with you? |
|
The only reason i can come up with, is being annoyed of that npc tanking and therefore ruining the experience for range classes like wizard and demon hunter.. Personally i hope that you will lose (even if it's just a little) MF/GF/XP when using him. Since it only makes sense that you should be rewarded when not using the follower, which definitely makes the game harder.
But i haven't seen any official comment on follower advantages/disadvantages myself.. |

Followers are for normal playthrough only. Which means a casual player like your dad could be beating this game on his wizard with a templar tanking (no offense :P). However, from my experience so far it seems that a follower will die in any boss encounter. The game wont get harder if you use one, which is nice, but weird because if you play with 1 friend the game actually gets harder than with your follower :)

no disadvantages
and the will be useful in every difficulty with the right gear in d2 u can have the act2 merc with defensive aura ,play hell and beat mephisto with him |
Its the other way around my man. It only makes sense that you get no benefit at all for not using the follower. He is an asset, like gear pieces or a weapon. If you want to complete the game naked thats up to you but you should hardly get buffs for making it harder for urself. No, followers are for all difficulties. They used to be for normal only but this got changed several months ago. ets hope it just won't make sense to use them in hell/inferno anymore.I get it, you hate having to use a "pet", you want to stand alone against the forces of hell. Sorry to burst your bubble, but they will be viable in the last difficulty. But it will be viable to clear it without one too. Win/win for everyone, dont you think?

ets hope it just won't make sense to use them in hell/inferno anymore. I'm fairly certain that what he meant is that in D2 you HAD to have a follower to do decently well with most classes, which he didn't like nor dislike, though he'd rather it not be that way in D3

I'm pretty sure the followers are there for story purposes mostly. I mean, in the beta they did virtually NO damage, at least in the final patch, and were pretty much a waste of space since the story wasn't accessible (remember the Templar talking about some books of his?).

I agree that the damage was pretty low. But then again, this was low level, maybe it will increase as your level gets higher. What i did find I liked was the heals from the templar, which definitely did help. |
im pretty sure they were never meant to kill !@#$ for you theyre only there for support (buffs and heals and such) so that you can kill stuff better |
|
as a barbarian using the "support" girl follower will be just amazing. they are part of the story so sometimes you will just have to use them in order to complete a quest or do something else. just use them it wont kill you unless they pull when u not rdy

It is harder to play with friend then with follower because on two player you get increased difficulty and i think increased HPs of enemies also I think that they added follower for all difficulties (even inferno) I actually think there is some video showing up them allowing followers in inferno

Followers are only for single player sessions. If more than 1 player joins all followers are removed back to town. Followers are always viable on all difficulties although they will die very fast on Inferno.
Diablo III is balanced around multiplayer. In single player you lack any such other players so they added followers who can counter this disadvantage by partially filling the shoes of another real player. Real players do still increase monster damage and health because they are a lot stronger than followers. Followers can be thought of as a 25-50% increase in power (not necessarily damage). Another player corresponds to over a 100% increase in power (as auras or crowd control stack). The best example would be a team of 4 monks using each mantra since each monk would be boosting 3 other monks with a buff (over 100% extra power). This is why extra players increase game difficulty but followers do not. Each follower serves a specific role. Templar - Front line and improved survival. His damage is meaningless but with him you can focus on full offense without worrying about dying. Scoundrel - Range and damage support. Most damaging of the followers who can compensate for a lack of offensive capabilities caused by using a shield or focusing on support moves. Enchantress - Crowd Control support. Deals moderate damage while also using powerful crowd control effects on monsters that compensates for builds that lack crowd control skills. All followers have the ability to act as fully disposable meat shields as they are only incapacitated when they run out of life and will quickly resurrect. |
