high spirit cost, very low move distance without target ,low damage and thunderclap rune nearly can do dashing strike job.and remember we have only 6 slots.
this ability needs some changes. i think dashing strike can be a spirit gainer and needs a small cd and can move same distance without targeting it can be work like a combo move , after using dashing strike against to an enemy your next combo move starts from second strike. example:combo will work like this with Way of the Hundred Fists first strike dashing strike second strike way of the hundred fits second strike 7 hit third strike way of the hundred fits third strike Dashing Strike combo move 5 sec cooldown gain 6 spirit. Dash quickly at the targeted enemy or location, dealing 150% weapon damage and rooting the target for 1 second. skill runes Way of the Falling Star Increase your movement speed by 25% for 3 seconds after using dashing strike. Flying Side Kick Perform a flying kick that has a 100% chance to stun your target for 1.5 second. Quicksilver Reduces the cooldown of your dashing strike to 3 sec. Soaring Skull Launch yourself through the air and knockback and slow all enemies along your path by 60% for 2 seconds. Blinding Speed Receive a 20% increased chance to dodge for 3 seconds.

Um, you can fly across the entire screen with it. Would be ridiculous if it was like you suggested. (generator instead of spender, short CD and doesn't need a target) :S
The reason why it's good is that it has a very long range while thunderclap has a short one, and I don't think everyone wants to use Fists of Thunder as their generator anyways.

barbarian can fly across the entire screen with leap attack or furious charge
wizard can fly across the entire screen with teleport demon hunter can fly across the entire screen with vault or smoke screen witch doktor can run across the entire screen with spirit walk all this classes abilites are not ridiculous but when monk dashing stirke ,without target distance range is fix it will be ridiculous ...i cant understand it. with high attack speed you can teleport very fast with fists of thunder again and again. i play open beta and i see dashing strike is useless for me .

I think it will end up being both a great offensive and defensive ability for inferno mode and I have drafted a build that includes dashing strike with the quicksilver rune (10 spirit cost instead of 25 making it very spammable). Thunderclap rune for fists of thunder has too many limitations to make it a viable replacement for all situations. I would like to see the distance restriction from not having any monsters around removed but that might make it a bit too good :p

If you think Dashing Strike is useless then your doing it wrong! Seriously how can you think its bad?
It lets me get in and target specific mobs, completely circumvent mobs in front of it. Its awesome. And no cooldown! Monk is one of the most mobile classes in the game with this skill only rivaled by the Demon Hunter. |

DS is nothing more then a 'go getter'. It is used to move in and out of battle at amazing speeds. You can travel as far as you like with it given how far away your enemy is. Also as there is no collision detection with the skill (might not be the right word) when you are in the middle of mobs and you are locked in just pop that sucker and you magically dash out to your intended target

Yea you really aren't playing the Monk right if you think its Useless. Between Teleport Punch and Dashing Strike nothing can escape a Monk.
I was mainly using to to pick off the Skeleton Summoners from behind ranks of Fodder Skeletons or jumping to ranged bosses behind minions. Also its useful for keeping the DPS on Leoric. |

Dashing Strike is a boon for a melee character. Okay, it costs Spirit (10 with the rune) but it has no cooldown. It's crazy good.

Useless skill. Thought it was good before I played open beta. Fist of thunder (thunderclap) is much better because it does not waste your spirit. This skill wastes a lot of spirit, has small damage and is quite useless.
I would make it work like demon hunters tumble. So you would be able to move large distances without a target. It can still cost a lot of spirit so that people don't spam it. |
Because Spirit is soooo hard to gain /facepalm Hopefully Blizzard won't change this skill to much because of the Terribads or people who don't know a good skill when they see it. This skill is so useful for hitting those mobs that are always behind other mobs. The fact that it actually move through the mobs AND more or less teleports across full length of the screen must be lost on you... |
|
Dashing Strike is amazing. Whoever thinks it's bad isn't playing the Monk properly. Between Dashing Strike and Fists of Thunder(clap), I pick mobs at my leisure, move through walls of minions to take out summoners, all at the tiny spirit cost, that is regenerated almost instantly with PUNCHING!, with no cooldown at all. The pure killing speed you gain is insane thanks to this. And killing faster = dying less.
You seriously don't think that this kind of unhindered mobility is amazing for melee character? |

Fists of thunder with the first rune i better imo.
1. They make spirit, not drain it. 2. You can use it on destructable things to move faster. 3. It's the best choise against single targets like bosses/elites. 4. It doesen't have a cooldown. 5. It just simply deals more damage. 6. You won't get stuck behind corners because it's teleportation instead of charging.

To whine about 1 skill when monk is so OP!!
I didnt like the skill but i dont mind it also. There are so many OP skills we gonna have , i cant cry for that... Anyways that skill is not so good for PVE but PVP wise it can be nasty!! |
|
Unslotted, sure, it isn't great. But some of the rune options for it are really rather nice. Flying Side Kick gives you a Stun and a Teleport on 0 CD with a very low spirit cost. Blinding Speed is going to be awesome for Dodge stackers. Soaring Skull provides a cheap, large area CC that lets you control large numbers of enemies.

Fists of thunder with the first rune i better imo. 1. Fists of thunder generates spirit. The "teleport" effect of the rune doesnt. 2. You can also use Dashing strike on destructable things to move, not just a couple yards, but across the entire map 3. For bosses, im sure there are better runes/spirit generators. 4. The thunderclap rune does have a CD. 5. The thunderclap rune for Fists of thunder do not deal damage, the first strike does. Compared, Dashing strike deals 100% weapon damage. The first strike of Fists of thunder does 110% weapon damage. 6. No, but you will get stuck at anything that is between you and your target. My point being? Dashing strike, is indeed more usefull and even more so in PvP. |

Dashing strike is cool.
But the spirit cost without quicksilver is .......... |
