Diablo® III

Ive read quite abit of lore.... and unless ive missed it or wasnt focusing i didn't catch why diablo, mephisto and baal are the prime evils and the most powerful ones. Are they much stronger in strength than the lesser evils? I probably angered some people in asking this. But thanks :)

Something to-do with Tathemet, Diablo, Baal and Mephisto were created from its most powerful or dominant heads. Tathemet was the the Seven Headed Dragon - whom split from Anu - that spawned the Evils and the Burning Hells of-course from its rotting skeletal.

Also I think it's more of a rank thing, the prime vs lesser evil. Apparently Azmodan is about the same strength as diablo, or atleast has the potential to. But then again power can be measured differently, I haven't read any of the books, but I'd say that mephistos power mostly comes from manipulation and generally turning his enemies against eachother, and in that sense you could easily argue that he's the strongest evil, even though he's the weakest of the three in direct combat.... Mephisto needs his own game :P Love him

Hahaha, yes I think Mephisto is the most ace too ! but yeah, your generally right about what your saying and the Book Of Cain hints at that general direction. Obv. you have the Dark Exile which in a way proves that they are all of equal power, Deckard in BofC constantly reminds us about Azmodan in-particular and the Lessers that they are no less to be feared than the Primes and Diablo himself etc. though he then goes on-to say how Diablo is far the most cunning and far-sighted which I think makes him more powerful ! Your correct too, obv. nobody can match Diablo in sheer Terror creation or Duriel in handing out the most abominable pain. KEY to this also is the saying particualar with the Primes that Hatred begets Terror Terror begets Destruction Destruction begets Hatred etc. etc. After-all, Tathamet who was the most pure incarnation of Evil was so when they were ALL combined together in one form.

I don't think any of them would particuarly excel more than another in direct combat, first and foremost because this is not the way that they work, Belial would never really engage in direct combat, he'd prefer to make his enemies kill themselves with lie and mistrust !

Baal was my favorite in D2. He was hilarious and (for being the Lord of Destruction) quite classy. :P

It's funny that on the wiki Baal is said to be the least intelligent, since he comes off as this grand lord of sorts, atleast in d2. It's obvious that mephisto is the "boss" of the three to a certain extend, but I always pictured diablo as the least intelligent, most likely due to his more animalistic form. Maybe Baal is just insane and can't really focus long enough to get much thinking done :P

Baal was stupid, yes. But he was bound inside Tal Rasha, which was one of the (if not the) strongest mages of his time. So in the time Baal was inside Tal Rasha, he basically got the knowledge (and maybe intellect as well) that Tal rasha had.

That was actually what made him so dangerous in LoD. Do you think that, IF Baal was such an idiot he'd know how to deal with the Ancients? Or to even care about the Worldstone? I doubt it. Plus him appearing like Tyreal to Markus proves he got Tal Rasha's abilities.

Diablo is the most creative and Far-sighted of the three. Mephisto is the most inteligent and the Leader of the three. Baal is cunning and Destructive.

This is the description on "the book of cain"

Not all the lesser evils were created at the same time. Andarial for example was produced through reproduction.

Each of the Prime Evils is powerful in their own ways. Mephisto uses hatred to consume his foes and convert them into his slaves as ghosts or undead. Diablo uses terrifying monsters which reduce the moral of enemies but are not excessively powerful. Baal uses a tactical brute force approach having by far some of the strongest demons serve him. Head on Baal would probably win again any of the evils and demons in hell purely because he is the incarnation of destruction itself and his cunning could outsmart any foe in direct combat. Let us not forget that concepts such as Fear and Hatred probably are in effectual on other Prime Evils meaning that Baal has one of the few traits which actually would benefit combat. The major concept is that Baal is on very friedly terms with both Mephisto and Diablo meaning they would only every work as a team. The 3 of them together are so strong that there is not really anything the other evils can do to stop them. They were over thrown by Belial and Azmodan with the other lesser evils only because they wanted to be and even still in the process they destroyed a significant part of the forces of hell.

Azmodan has by far the strongest army of the evils and a high level of intelligence to follow. Although his forces are no match to the Prime Evils because of their relationship he is probably the strongest of the lesser evils due to his forces. In Diablo III apparently only a fraction of his forces get hammered.

Retconning inconsistencies I think. As of now I believe the official lore states each of the Evils was indeed one of Tathamet's heads while the Primes were its more dominant ones.

Aye, according to Book of Cain at least. But Cains source could be flawed. Or the other source was. Or both.

I cannot help it if in the last month Blizzard has changed the god damn lore.

Before then Andariel was the grand-daughter of Mephisto. This is the officially recognized lore by me because I do not spend 24/7 listening for random changes to complete sections in Diablo lore.

Dont get mad at me for that, i was just asking :P
