Diablo® III

Storyline/Quests in public games

Hello,

I'm wandering how Co-op will effect the storyline. Say for example that I play with my friends the first two acts and then we don't play for a week and afterwards we want to play together again but everyone has a different level and quest. What happens then?

Is there a maximum level difference for co-op games? Can I join quests that I have not yet unlocked? If so, do I unlock these at that particular moment? Etc. Thanks for your answers.

I think it will be the same as in D2

You probably won't be able to join quests you haven't unlocked yet so the party will have to continue from the point of the player with the lowest quest. It's the best if that player makes the game and all will continue from there. Alternatively some other player can make the game but set the starting quest to that of the lower player (lower in term of quests obviously). If those higher players start with lower quest, that quest becomes active for them (they need to finish it once again to continue).

I don't think there is a maximum level difference for co-op..

So no, you can't join quests you haven't unlocked yet. At least you shouldn't, it would be a total mess up.

There might a maximum range of levels to even start a certain quest though - like, for example, you have to be at least lvl 8 to finish Act 1 (made up example).

In beta it showed you have to be lvl 4 to fight Skeleton King, but if there were no available players even Lvl 1 could enter.. don't know if it was a bug or not ..

That's now how it worked in beta, in Beta a brand new character could join his Friend who was on the last quest. However you can only start games yourself from the point of a completed quest or a quest just after the one you've completed.

For instance, I made a new Character, joined my friend who was on at the 3rd quest at that time, after we killed Leoric I was able to create games starting with quest 1, 3 and 4.

I'm guessing (pure speculation) there will be some limits like "You can't join a player in Act 2 before completing Act 1".
