I have the same problem with my brand new AMD Radeon HD 7700.

I start the game, and right away it freezes for a few seconds, goes black for about a second, and then it goes back to normal. This is repeated about 2-3 times, and then it just minimizes Diablo, but still with the game cursor, and I can't maximize it again. All drivers are up to date, and I tried running it on 50 fps, in Windowed-Fullscreen, and with Vertical Sync enabled, but the problem persists.

Funny thing is that it runs on my laptop, where the grafics cards is under the minimum requirements. Had a few issues there with permanent black screens and tearing, but that was solved by lowering FPS and enabling Vertical Sync.

Edit: Also, while trying to see if it worked better in Windowed mode I noticed a message saying that the AMD drivers had crashed and restarted.

It doesn't take much to run WoW. Using that for a frame of reference won't help much. Considering it's a joke for requirements. I've seen crap systems run WoW.

I resolved this issue, and I thought I would point out what I discovered it to be for me. There was someone else on this thread who didn't know english but resolved the issue in the same way. I am running a GTX 550 ti.

The lastest Nividia drivers replace the default PNP drivers for your monitor. Specifically, I was running a syncmaster by samsung within a multi-monitor setup. I went and downloaded the very old (2007) drivers for the monitor and instantly all my problems stopped.

This didn't only affect D3, it affected all my games, or any games I was running in windowed mode. In addition while playing D3 the cinematics would completely crawl and this was also resolved the moment I rolled back my monitor specific drivers.

If you have older monitors or a multi-monitor setup I would recommend trying this first before anything else. Good luck.

I have gigabyte gtx 275 and have been handling this problem for 2 months and last week i solved. my system is;
amd phenom 2 x4 2.8 ghz
gigabyte GA-MA770 motherboard
4gb 1066 ram
gigabyte gtx 275 and this problems source i have been determined is psu:400w
i bought my pc in 2009 and never saw such problem with something like this since diablo 3
but i bought xilence 600w psu and my problem is solved.
i think gtx 275 needs too much watts for this game

i have i5 + HD5750, same thing happens (black out + no response, but my movie playing on my other monitor kept going , can hear sounds).

most of us are only getting this problem while playing d3. Wow is fine, battlefield 3 is fine, crysis 2 is fine, L4D2 is fine...etc, so i think the problem isn't our psu or temperature etc. (mine's at mere 77c when this happaned).

I've done an clean install of my PC just yesterday, thought it would fix the problem but no, it just came up again. the max 50fps seem to work, but from time to time (especially playing with wizards for some reason) the frame completely freezes from 10sec to up to 2min, then goes back to normal.

please let us know you guys are working on this. it probably wouldn't be easy to fix, but at least give us .. something? maybe a reply ? :)

thx team.

OK folks, first i want present this problem as an important one, main problem manifest both in WoW since Lich King expansion and recently after 1.03 patch in Diablo 3, both Blizzard games, after one of my friends got this problem in WoW not related with DIII it cant be a coincidence something is rong here...... now, i have this problem to :( .
My machine has:
  • Motherboard
  • - Asus Maximus II Formula - MAXIMUS-II-FORMULA
  • CPU
  • - Intel Core2 Quad Q9650 3.00GHz - BX80569Q9650
  • Memory
  • - Corsair 4GB DDR2 1066MHz CL5 - TWIN2X4096-8500C5D
  • Video
  • - BFG Tech GeForce GTX 285 - BFGRGTX2851024OCBE
  • PSU
  • - CORSAIR 750W 90silver - Professional Series HX750 - CMPSU-750HX
    Cpu Cooler- Zalman CNPS-9700-NT - CNPS-9700-NT
  • Case
  • - Antec Nine Hundred II - Nine Hundred II
  • HDDx2
  • - Western Digital 1TB SATA-II - WD1001FALS
and running Windows Xp sp3 with latest drivers, cleaned OS updated Bios, down_graded video driver, no OC, all on default, and the damn problem ocurs only on this 2 games, other games that require more demanding cpu and gpu power runs flawless so it's on blizzard end from my point of view. Problem occurs not on a single machine, so is not isolated as u assumed, and from my experience, it occurs only when some graphfic details ocurs more than one in the same time. It ocurs mostly in multy-cooop sessions in DIII and less frecvent in Solo sessions. NOW please, investigate this problem more seriouse.... and help us, the unlucky customers that can't enjoy the game they bought!
More than sad if the problem will have a solutin i'm willing to offer free beer for the savior !

Guys, I finally found a solution!

After 2 years suffering with this issue, i've searched on LOT of foruns and topics for some light. The game does'nt matters, noone knows the answer. It happens in all kinds of graphic cards, usually on Windows 7 64 bits.

It happens with me on Battlefield 3, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and even watching videos sometimes. But now I fixed it forever so, consider trying this:

    1 - Download MSI Afterburner.
2 - Run it. (Your graphic Card model doesnt matter, I think it works with anything, at least from NVidia).
3 - There are two bars, Core Clock and Memory Clock. You will need to change its values to 10-15% lower.
4 - Apply, and its done, no more black screen issue.

Thats right, you did an underclock, not an overclock, so it should be safe.

I tried EVERYTHING, and this was the only thing that worked to me, 2 years later.
I hope it works for you guys.

HI, go into system at log in or in game options then network and untick optimize network for speed!
Then go into system again then graphics, disable the SSAO function this has been included for next gen graphics cards and yours probably doesnt support the function.

Before this you might want to delete your wtf, cache and interface files! ( I should have probably started the post with this :) ) Hope this helps!

    Hello,

Can you please check the temperatures of your graphics adapters when playing, and see if there's a correlation between high temperatures and the blackouts?

You can use HW Monitor to check these:

I had the same problem that all of you have... and the 50 fps solution didn't work for me. I found out that my problem was in the bios setup. I have an M.I.T. (motherboard intelligent tweaker) motherboard. My VGA was set to turbo and my CPU was set to turbo as well. When I set these to auto through my bios, pressing DEL to enter setup during startup, problem was solved. I hope this helps and please give it a try if your motherboard is similar.
