About legendary description on game guide

Blizzard: "First and foremost, Legendary items are not designed to necessarily be the best items in the game"

Blizzard Game Guide: "Legendary items are colored orange. These items are the things of myth, and are extremely rare, but immensely powerful. If you are fortunate enough to find one, rejoice!"

Item type who is described as "IMMENSELY powerful" in Game Guide. Sorta stupid...if we have to actually read it like:

"Legendary items are colored orange. These items are the things of myth, and are extremely rare, but they are not designed to necessary be the best items in the game! If you are fortunate enough to find one, rejoice!" Doesn't sound that impressive or interesting at all :(

Heh... sold my legendary sword for 110k woopy! :)

PS - but its great news, that they will adress this issue in upcoming patch 1.1 (likely). yey!

To be honest, I can see where they are coming from in terms of stat budget. But weapon DPS is just too important to pass up on IMO.

Coming from WoW I'm tempted to say "Blues better than oranges, that's retarded" but then I remember this is not WoW

Of course, I would like that legendary items, things of myth to really be the most powerful items in the game

It just really depends on what the player base and what blizzard define as better tbh.

It's clear that the majority of players clearing Inferno will go for a 1k + DPS blue over a 600 DPS Orange with a crap-ton of other stats.

Blizzard have the odd perception that those other stats are just as important, but if you don't want to hit enrage timers and optimise your DPS while keeping decent resistance, the former is the way to go.

Legendaries are never better, as it stands. Blizzard designed the game to revolve solely around a weapon's DPS, and Blues/Yellows just outscale Legendaries so hard in that department.

Doesn't matter that the Legendary has +3000 HP from health globes and +200 health regen if it has 500 DPS less, and if Blizzard thinks it does matter then they don't understand their own game.

Blizzards designed mechanics in this game are constantly interfering with eachother. Legendaries have more stats, and potentially usefull stats at the huge cost of a big DPS dip. While their overall game mechanic (being skills scaled to weapon DPS), make legendaries completely obselete because DPS is the only stat you need to focus on to progress in this game.
These are some genuine flawed mechanics

Im now speaking totally apart from WoW mindset "blue<orange" (i suck, i never got anything really Legendary in wow hehe). It's Blizzards own making in Diablo 2 that defined blue<orange (it was sorta more brown than orange). In Diablo 2 legendaries and set items were the thing to aim for at end game. I remember Desecrator or what was that axe name, highly soaked after for melee classes and basicly all end-game legendaries trumped blue/yellows. And now blabooksh - oranges suddenly are where they are. It was fun, to see orange item drop and gave so nice goosebumps when identifying :) Now its - ok...orange...AH..how much will i earn on someone who don't understand how stats works...

Hopefully they give about 30-50% "damage per second" buff for Legendaries to return that nice feel of legendary drops.

PS. I'm yet to discover a single Set item drop. Don't you think set items are dropping way too rare? Feels like sets themselves are in very limited amount. Heh, and i hate that those voice-journals have green color - gives me heartbeat every time I discover a book and find out it's actually not a set item :)

@Asukhama - I totally agree. And to add more - it's a bit weird that weapon speed doesn't affect spell cost or resource regeneration speed. As a mage I have rather high cost for Arcane Orbs (35 AP). With quick weapon i lose all my arcane power in couple quick (weak) shots (for example 3x 16k hits) and be arcane power starved for quite a long time. While on slow weapon (say, mace with 0.9 attacks per second) i can shoot same amount of orbs (bit slower) but they hit way stronger (3x 26k hits). Hence the weird stuff - my 115 Arcane power with 1 weapon is delivering 48k damage in total, or my 115 arcane power is delivering 78k damage with slow weapon - but regeneration speed of arcane power is the same. So question is, isnt there some sort of imbalance here? It becomes like a rule - always pick up as slow weapon you can if "DPS" is the same.

PS I guess I should get coffee, since it's hard to understand myself even for me :)

Maybe not in a manner such as this but in a future patch, most likely the one to include PvP, we are planning to outright buff legendary items :) We also want to over time expand the current affix diversity as well as the unique bonuses of legendary items, we are looking to share more details regarding this after the PvP patch.

In addition to all of this we will be exposing the item levels (ilvl) of all 60+ items in patch 1.0.3 to increase the clarity of stat distribution on items. This will help indicate as to why in some occasions an ilvl 60 Legendary might not be as strong as an ilvl 63 Magic item.

Can't wait for this :-) Good thing they're buffing the Legendaries.

Only other thing they could have done was going back to calling them 'Uniques' again, which would have fit the current Legendary stats better.

Will the current legendaries be converted so that they receive the new stats or will we have a situation like in D2, where you could find several versions of the same item? Like 1.08/1.09 valkyrie wing?

Wow, surprised my little thread got a response O.O *spills freshly made coffee*

Any idea (wink wink, Nakatoir), when does item get it's attributes - on pickup or on process of identifying? If it's on identifying - should we just hold on on unidentified item till patch hits (yea it might be couple weeks/a month I guess) and identify it then? With diablo 2 stats were given upon identifying so you could copy your Savegame files and re-identify till you hit jackpot :) So I wonder is it worth waiting with bags full of unidentified legendaries :)

They said they wont convert the old items, the changes will apply to the new drops only.

The stats on the item random rolls on identify. It worked like that also on D2. (Tested at single play)

Yea i know, that's what why Im asking about D3 now... so it does sound like a good idea to just keep them unidentified :)
