Heya guys, I have been playing Diablo since release but have noticed that my graphics card fan becomes VERY audible while playing, even on the character menu.
I've tried reducing the graphics in game and also using the nVidia control panel to change things to opt more towards performance rather than quality, but still no change.
I am running it on a quad core, win 7, 8 GB RAM, nVidia 560ti
Playing things like Skyrim on High settings doesn't affect it, it runs near silent. It just seems to be Diablo 3 (and SC 2 on Mafia when it changes from day to night)
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to make it easier on my graphics card? I don't want it to burn out.
It wont burn up fans are speeding up becuse the core is warm it autadjusts, check your cpu temperature as well if it's above 70 degrees celcius then you might wanna improve your overall cooling system by either adding more 140mm fans or just clean all the fans.

V-sync on I get a steady 59-60 fps (occasionally it will go into triple digits, but not long enough for me to see)
V-Sync off I get a steady 120 FPS (At this point I can hear my fans steadily speeding up)
I think V-Sync on has done the trick (And I have also removed dust from my fans)

Thank you all for your replies so far!
You can do alot of things ...
First as lurdlespor said : DUST FREE - get a compressor and blast the !@#$ out of your card..
DONT USE CANNED AIR - DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT ! - get the real thing
second : limit FPS (by either using VSYNC) or an external programm:
i recommend DXTORY - its awesome (like fraps but better) - just google it
Last but not least. if everything does not work - maybe your Case is ventilated badly...
get more fans.. get a new case.. there are so much possiblities..
oh and by the way.. buying a 40 bucks case wont help... get the real thing ;)
I recommend Collermaster: HAV-X (yeah its that costly)
The reason why your card goes nuts in the mainmenu is because it renders many many many more frames here than ingame - since its less demanding rendering a character than a wohle level..
1 ) more fps -> more heat -> more powerconsumption
2 ) less fps because of card on full load due to complex visuals -> more heat -> more powerconsumption.
Since diablo3 is very hardware friendly.. you encounter point (1) which is always an issue with strong cards as they tend to render things at 2000 fps in menues...
In a proper environment, with everything done correctly there is no reason for your card to exceed 60% fan speed at 85degrees celsius !! thats what you should aim for

Instead of Vertical Sync, which creates input lag (you'll notice it most when dragging an item around your screen or dragging the map), you can simply set the Max FPS to 60 in the video options. 60 is my television's refresh rate, and my video cards stay quiet at that limit. You can try experimenting if you want, but 60 is faster than eyes can see anyway so whatever

I didnt know diablo offers this option - great , you dont need dxtory then .just limit fps to 60 its enough for d3
this old myth...
i dont want to discuss .. BUT the answer is: NO your eyes can differenciate between 10, 25 , 60, 500, and 2000 fps.. IN VIDEO GAMES.
this depends on motion speed and distance traveled in relation to each other
roughly speaking.. the faster you move INGAME the more fps you need to get a fluent animation.
you dont believe me ? than why do movies use motion blur to somewhat nullify this effect? because you cant see a difference? -- most unlikely
try playing whipe out with 30 fps and with 500 .. you will see a difference
Oh god....seriously. That retarded 'human eye can't see more than x fps' thing (They usually say either 24, 30 or 60fps) has been going for years and years. !@#$ING YEARS. How many more times does it have to be debunked. STILL I see people posting that nonsense as if it's scientific fact. %^-*ing educate yourselves before making such retarded claims.
For me D3 is also the only game that makes my Geforce 285 to sound like vacuum cleaner.
I know cooling system supposed to work like that, but the fact that only D3 pushes my card to such extreme is kinda strange.
And yes, I have Vsync @60Hz active.

Please tell me if anyone has been able to succesfully solve this issue. My NVIDIA 275GTX fans go mad when I just simple browse the auction house...how can this be possible? Can a developent team adress this issue ingame? Putting on options vsync or limiting to 60fps did not solve anything... And believe me my system is not dusted or with bad ventilation, in Skyrim and other games I very rarely get my fans running this fast to cool down the system.
This company's technical staff is a joke. Obviously this game has huge performance issue on serten cards for example I use mobility radeon hd 5850 and in fights drop down into 8-9 fps. When im able to run witcher 2/deus ex with high settings. Not even crysis 2 or other similar high end games even crush my system so much. The game performs like utter crap and it's not drivers that is at fault, it's blizzards incompetence to try their creation before they relese buggy beta crap as relese. I don't know how the Q&A team missed all these performance issues. I mean ATI cards is kind something that you shoudl try the game on and the slowdowns are out of this world even on high end cards. I'm not at all surpised that this person have issue with his game experience since he is far from alone...
This games relese has been surrounded by nothing but poor performace/server issues/grahical glitches. And all this from such a big company it's just................. *sigh* The performace issues should take priority over the #"%&!#¤& RMAH.
ITS GAME RELATED!
in my case atleast.
i got a brand new(budget) system for diablo... no dusts, no oc, should play d3 just fine.
athlon ii 651k@3ghz + 8gb ddr@1600mhz + geforce ti 550
i can hear the fans start to spin up when doubleclick the d3 loader even!
fps got slightly better when i deleted the cache folder, but overall, since patcj 2a i still hafto play on everything low if i dont want to die becouse i cannot move out of projectile in time.
Hey guys I had Nvidia Geforce 250 GTS and it got burned while playing diablo and actually when i was in the achievments menu... I don't say that it was diablo related but they replaced my video card with the same model. Also before that I had some blank screens while playing the game . Do you think it is possible for this to happen again ?
