Diablo® III

The total cost of making a Radiant Star Gem?!

Hi all, I'm sure someone else has made the calculation before, but never the less I have done it my self and here are the calculations.

At the moment we can find the flawless square gems at inferno so that's where I have begun the calculation. I haven't taken the into account the cost of buying the Tome of Secrets, so the calculation is based on that you find all the need tomes your self :)

I am not 100% sure that the calculations is correct so if anyone can confirm it, it would be nice :)

Perfect Square
Gems: 3 x flawless square
Tome of Secrets: 3
Gold: 30.000

Total cost of making 3 x Perfect Square = 90.000 Gold

Radiant Square
Gems: 3 x Perfect Square (cost 90.000)
Tome of Secrets: 6
Gold: 50.000

Total cost of making 3 x Radiant Square = (90.000+50.000) x 3 = 420.000 Gold

Star
Gems: 3 x Radiant Square (cost 420.000)
Tome of Secrets: 9
Gold: 80.000

Total cost of making 3 x Star = (420.000 + 80.000) x 3 = 1.500.000 Gold

Flawless Star
Gems: 3 x Star (cost 1.500.000)
Tome of Secrets: 12
Gold: 100.000

Total cost of making 3 x Flawless Star = (1.500.000 + 100.000) x 3 = 4.800.000 Gold

Perfect Star
Gems: 3 x Flawless Star (cost 4.800.000)
Tome of Secrets: 15
Gold: 200.000

Total cost of making 3 x Perfect Star = (4.800.000 + 200.000) x 3 = 15.000.000 Gold

Radiant Star
Gems: 3 x Perfect Star
Tome of Secrets: 20
Gold: 400.000

Total cost of making 1 x Radiant Star = 15.000.000 + 400.000 = 15.400.000 Gold

Again, if someone could check the calculation, it would be nice :)

If my calculations are correct, and the total cost of making one of the radiant star gems is 15.4 mill gold, what do you guys then think the price for one of these gems is going to be at Auction House? We have to consider that the plans for making these gems are rare and expensive too.

And do you even think people are going to buy Radiant Star gems? Is it worth paying so much gold for the small upgrade it is going from a perfect star to a radiant star?

Yep,

15,400,000 gold
243 Flawless squares
65 Tomes of Secrets

And whether people will buy those, yep, probably Amethyst for helm and Emerald for weapon.
I don't know about Topaz for helm as well. I don't really know how much MF can a helm have.

Your flawless square and tomes of secrets values are wrong. You would need 3^6 flawless squares (729) and I believe 1631 tomes of secrets.

Perfect square: 3 tomes
Radiant square: 15 tomes (3x3 + 6)
Star: 54 tomes (15x3 + 9)
Flawless star: 174 tomes (54x3 + 12)
Perfect star: 537 tomes (174x3 + 15)
Radiant star: 1631 tomes (537x3 + 20)

why would anyone craft? if i look at the AH prices for the gems it is still not worthy to craft ANY gem, rather sell all tomes + flawless squares.

Just look at "Star":

27 FS Gems + 27 Tomes + 18 Tomes + 9 Tomes + 270k + 150k + 80k

27x Flawless Square $GEM + 54x Tome of Secrets + 500k

27x 3125* + 54x 1250** + 500k = 628250 -> 675500
*(varies between 2750-3500)
*(varies between 1000-1500)

yay. so the AH spits out between: 534012,5 -> 574175

yet i see people selling this stuff for less than 500k regularly which is less than the PURE COMBINING COST they have put in....

Your start values are wrong.

Flawless square go for 3k at AH and tomes for 300 gold.

So all your values are off by a lot.

Sheet for Tome value of 300 and Flawless Square value of 3000:
(copy & paste from Excel)
Gem Tomes Craft cost Total value
Flawless Square 3,000
Perfect Square 3 30,000 39,900
Radiant Square 6 50,000 171,500
Star 9 80,000 597,200
Flawless Star 12 100,000 1,895,200
Perfect Star 15 200,000 5,890,100
Radiant Star 20 400,000 18,076,300

sorry i had it checked yesterday multiple times and the cheapest tomes were on 1500 with 1250 avg.

still 597200 without making a single coin of gold profit so it would have to sell for ~687k ...

Tomes 277 atm.

FS:
Ruby 1075
Ame 1275
Emer 3090
Topaz 1250

27*1075+14958+500k
27*1275+14958+500k
27*3090+14958+500k
27*1250+14958+500k

514958+29025=543983 => AH 459000 with avg 447284
514958+34425=549383 => AH 620000 with avg 604800
514958+83040=597998 => AH 660000 with avg 627135
514958+33750=548708 => AH 588000 with avg 577600

the catch:
you only get 390150 / 527000 / 561000 / 499800 out of your auctions...

and that does not include all the idiots who crash the prices regularly, its just a shot of this moment. and that is already the highest craftable (and crafting mandatory) gem without a recipe, so its not "yeah but everyone DROPS this gem" like it is for Flawless Square and lower.

It only gets worse up until the highest two gems in the game- oh, and those are not selling at all atm

After you weight in the AH cut (you have to sell it for +17.6% of total crafting cost), it looks like the prices are balanced pretty much perfectly in middle.
That means two wonderful things:

1. You will actually loose a bit if you buy Grade N from AH, craft Grade N+1, and sell it.
2. If you need one piece of Grade N+1 gem and you have 3 gems in your stash of Grade N, you are better to craft yourself the one piece of Grade N+1 than selling those 3 and buying the Grade N+1 from AH.

Things are not only ok, they are pretty much perfect atm. But of course prices fluctuates, so use an excel sheet to detect insane spikes.

This should help with combining more Flawless Squares

So 15.4 million for crafting +
729 * Flawless_Square_Gem_Price +
How many tomes needed again? 65 seems a bit low

Either way, if gems cost 1200 each, it's 875k for them alone. That, and tome prices make 1 radiant star cost over 16 million. 15.4 million if you use only your own materials. 15% auction fee 2.3 million, so if you're selling them for under 18.1 million, you aren't making any profit at all.

People craft something and put it on AH for prices that generates losses - but everything is perfect - right.

yeah... I don't get this...
Why are people doing it?

Make one, dupe 100 times, sell for prices that will make people buy them from you and not craft. Simple as that I guess.

People were listing the nm/hell crafting ingredients on the AH at vendor price. This means they were making a *loss* compared to vendoring after the 15% commission.

It made me strongly wonder if somehow people were exploiting the AH duping items in a way they could AH but not vendor.

Another explanation is that the price crashes are from people selling !@#$ from hacked accounts and want a quick sale.

Or some people are just that bad at maths...

Athene crafted the first Radiant Star Gem on EU server 1-2 weeks ago I think it was. I watched it on live stream. It cost him around 17mil.

it cost him nothing simply because he just bragged "give me some gold" and all of his fanboys battled just to give him some..

Pretty much this.

He got gold, he made it, his fanboys fapped endlessly.

The end.

I wish Athene would cark it already, nobody on the face of this earth annoys me more.
