How to improve your damage? [theorycrafting]

Hello, fellow Monk players!

It just come to me that i want to do a little mathematics about the monk's damage,
and about the relation of Life on Hit and Lifeleech. And I want to share my results
with you.

Let me introduce my method. I call it TTHS(The Thousand Hit Scenario). With this
i will show you how will your damage and lifesteal change if you hit a
single target a thousand times with the same weapon with different stats on you .
I picked a Fist weapon for now, cause it have an average AS (1,4 atk/sec) and
Monks like to use it :)

Let us begin!

The 1000 hit scenario:

Let me fix the weapon dmg to 1000 (min-max 1000-1000)to make the calculation easier.

1 fist with AS stack: lets see the best case scenario (im not counting the legendary
items only rares to maximalize the AS you can get:

base speed 1.4 with 25% as on it = 1.75
put on the max AS items : 4*17=68 ---> 4*1,4*0,17+1,4*0,25+1,4= 2,7 attack / second

dmg output during 1000 hit(crit chance 5% crit dam +50%):

950*1000=950.000
50*1500=75.000 1.025.000:370 = 2770 dps
370 sec (estimated time for 1000 hit)

1 fist with crit dam + crit chance stack: again the best case scenario (-legendaries)

base speed 1.4 with 100% crit dam + socket=70% crit dam (im calculating with
Star Emerald cuase it can be obtained easily now)
put on the max crit chane-crit dam modifiers: crit chance (6+10+6+2*4,5+10=+41%)
crit dam(65+2*35+35=+170%)

adding to base stats:

5+41= 46%crit chance
50+170+170= +390% crit dam that means a critical hit deals 490% weapon damage

damage output:

540*1000= 540.000
460*4900=2.254.000 2.794.000:714= 3913 dps
714 sec (estimated time for 1000 hit)

The numbers above are only non-skill weapon swings, no dexterity and skill
modifiers added. But Lets check with skill and dexterity multiplier:
let me calculate with 1200 dex (thats the amount that all medium-geared monk have)

1 fist with max IAS using FoT(no rune)
(DR,CW all of them 110% wep.dmg)
and WotHF(no rune)(140% wep. dmg):

FoT dmg output (5% crit chance +50%crit dam)

950*1000*1,1*12= 12,540,000
50*1500*1,1*12= 990,000 13,530,000:370 = 36567,5 dps
370 sec

WotHF dmg output (5% crit chance +50%crit dam)

950*1000*1,4*12= 15,960,000
50*1500*1,4*12= 1,260,000 17,220,000:370 = 46540 dps
370sec

1 fist with crit% + crit dam%

FoT dmg output (46% crit chance +390% crit dam)

540*1000*1,1*12= 7,128,000
460*4900*1,1*12= 29,752,800 36,880,800:714 = 51654 dps
714sec

WotHF dmg output (46% crit chance +390% crit dam)

540*1000*1,4*12= 9,072,000
460*4900*1,4*12= 37,867,200 46,939,200:714 = 65741 dps
714sec

note, that these numbers can change, because of the animation speed of the skills
and any other modifier you can have on gear, etc.

the big question: Life on Hit or LifeLeech?
this needs more calculation 'cause both affixes have their modifiers, and
lifeleech(80% reduction on inferno) scales with damage:

let me use the maximum values of both stats on weapons: 969 LoH and 3% lifeleech:

note: i will calculate only for single target!

First Life on Hit:

since i am calculating based on the number of hits (1000 hit) life on hit
is a little easy:

note: lifeleech scales with damage, and LoH value is changing by the skill used,
i will calculate with the damage outputs both FoT and WotHF(LoH is calculated by
the average of the 3 hit of the highest modifiers).

1 fist max IAS (370sec is the time for 1000 hit)

Life on Hit

Fist of Thunder(all rune except TC) (3hit average (100+100+75)/3= 92%)

1000*969*0,92= 891,480 ---> 891,480:370= 2409 life/sec

Way of the Hundred Fists (Fists of Fury)(3 hit average (150+120+100)/3= 123%)

1000*969*1,23 = 1,191,870 ----> 1,191,870:370= 3221 life/sec

Second lifeleech:

FoT (damage delt during the 1000hit is 13,530,000)

13,530,000*0,03*0,2= 81,180 ---> 81,180:370= 219 life/sec

WotHF

17,220,000*0,03*0,2= 103,320 ---> 103,320:370= 279 life/sec

1 fist max crit% + crit dmg% (714sec - 1000 hit)

Life on Hit

FoT (all rune except TC)(3 hit average 92%)

1000*969*0,92= 891,480 ---> 891,480:714= 1249 life/sec

WotHF (Fists of Fury)(3hit average 123%)

1000*969*1,23= 1,191,870 ---> 1,191,870:714= 1669 life/sec

Lifeleech:

FoT (damage delt during the 1000hit is 36,880,800)

36,880,800*0,03*0,2= 221,284 ---> 221,284:714= 310 life/sec

WotHF

46,939,200*0,03*0,2= 281,635 ---> 281,635:714= 394 life/sec

Conclusion:
Stacking only AS will result 42% less dps compared to crit modifiers.
LoH is far more superior to LL.

Let me see what happens if i have all stats maxed

1 fist 2,7 Atk/sec 46% crit +390%crit dam

Life on Hit:
since the LoH does not scale with damage the results will be the same as
if you have only the 2,7 atk/sec

Fist of Thunder(all rune except TC) (3hit average (100+100+75)/3= 92%)

1000*969*0,92= 891,480 ---> 891,480:370= 2409 life/sec

Lifeleech
the attack speed changed (714sec reduced to 370sec)so the dmg/sec will increase
as well as the heal/sec.

FoT dmg output

540*1000*1,1*12= 7,128,000
460*4900*1,1*12= 29,752,800 36,880,800:370 = 99678 dps
370sec

WotHF dmg output

540*1000*1,4*12= 9,072,000
460*4900*1,4*12= 37,867,200 46,939,200:370 = 126862 dps
370sec

note, that these numbers can change, because of the animation speed of the skills
and any other modifier you can have on gear, etc.

the damage during the 1000 hit is not changed, so as the amount of heal gained
from LL only the life/sec will increase.

FoT (damage delt during the 1000hit is 36,880,800)

36,880,800*0,03*0,2= 221,284 ---> 221,284:370= 598 life/sec

WotHF

46,939,200*0,03*0,2= 281635 ---> 281,635:370= 761 life/sec

Conclusion: If you stack both AS and crit modifiers you can achieve 2-3 times
greater damage/second value than stacking only one of those.(i know crit
modifiers are 2 stat but whats the point increasing just crit chance or
just crit damage :D)

With this enormous damage value, Lifeleech still can't keep up to Life on Hit.
Lifeleech really needs some sort of enhance to be in par with LoH, 'cause you
can obtain far more Life on Hit than 969, i just looked at the max value on
weapon. With twice the LoH value people can obtain such a high HP regeneration,
that only 1 hit kills or disable effects (stun, root, etc.) can interrupt them.

Note: the damage output values does not contain the 15% buff from BoH and the 48%
increased damage taken by mobs and the 10% wep.dmg/sec from WotHF rune.

With those added the maximum life/sec value of the Lifeleech can hit about
1300 life/sec, which is still only the half of the heal gained by 969LoH
fist of thunder with 2,7 atk/sec. Shameful.

Life on Hit and Lifeleech affixes really (and really i mean !@#$in' really) needs
balancing, because this is untenable that even if you somehow manage to obtain
the damage value to gain the 1300life/sec (most likely that is the amount
i calculated for you: 126862 base dps +15% BoH, +48% MoC-Overawe = 215919
effective dps) from lifeleech that will be only the half HP gain that you can
aquire by stacking a medium amount of LoH and high amount of IAS; and with that
you still have some %^-*ty 12-13k dps. Unbeliveable.

Of course if you have that huge amount of damage (127k base - 216k effective)
you will 1-2shot the monsters even on inferno act 3, but come on.

I hope this theorycrafting is useful and will help you guys picking the right
stats on your gear and improve your MONK to keep the balance in the
Sanctuary.

And i really hope that i calculated the attack speed right, because i dont
want to re-do this whole thing. :D

Very nice, but by the time I fully understood that, my Dex went from 1200 to 1600, now I am worried that this calculation has more variables
