Diablo® III

GPU Crashing?

When I'm playing D3 my GPU gets insanely hot, like 90+ all the time. I can't play for long cause then my GPU just crashes and I get a brownish screen. Then I have to restart my PC.

System:
Windows 7
P6T Deluxe V2 (Motherboard)
Intel i7 920 @ 2.4 GHz
DDR3 6GB
Radeon HD 6970 2GB

This is a really big GPU and should be able to run just fine highest settings, same for the rest of my setup.

Hello,

If you're on the current 12.4 drivers, can you try uninstalling them and reverting to the previous 12.3 ones, and see if that makes any difference?

Ehm when I check my Catalyst Control Center it tells me the version is 11.9. Or is this not the Driver version? And if it isn't where can I find it?

So as I don't know how to resolve this issue, I played on lowest settings thinking I can play like that until I have a solution. Guess what? GPU crashed on lowest settings.

update your driver to the 12.3 version via catalyst or the AMD website.
driver version 11.9 is an old version.

Well, atleast I'm not getting the crashes anymore. But this time.. My screen suddenly goes black, can't do anything after a few seconds I manage to CTRL + ALT + DEL and get back to windows. It'll give me a message that my hardware driver stopped working, this message will show for only a few seconds and then disappear automaticaly.

Please help me with this issue, oh and this is WITH the 12.3 driver.

Try increasing your fan speed setting inside the driver settings. You'll find it under "AMD Overdrive".

Check GPU temp before raising Fan speed. Both are on AMD overdrive tab of Catalyst Control Center.

What's your PSU (Power Supply Unit) btw ? Brand and Model ?

Could someone tell me what a normal temperature is when your playing for your GPU? Mine is around 85-95 when I'm playing D3.

try version 12.4 which is the latest version.
The fact the driver stopped working is meaning its either clashing with another programme or its corrupted.

If this doesnt work then keep going backwards - 12.2, 12.1 ,12.0 untill you get the driver that works.
The reason is some drivers fix bugs not just performance and sometimes cause an accidental error with another programme.

Thats a bit high.
You should be anywhere from 55 - 75c.

As your hitting 85c+ there are big issues either with the fans not working or the pc case is not good enough to air-cool the pc temperatures.
Try runnning "precision x" as I found smartdoctor is full of bugs, doesnt record the right temps or control the fans properly.
Precsion x will be alot smoother.

My 4850 kept crashing after 30mins of playing untill i removed the side case of my PC and cleaned it from inside of the dust. I also downloaded 'MSI Afterburner' which actually works also on others than MSI cards. Try downloading it and twist that GPU Fan a bit.

Now im running 60-70c without any issues! Hope this post helps out others with Temperature issues

i have the solution :), first go into game type ctrl R, check ur fps, there is good chance ur gpu is running hard then it needs too. go to diablo 3 options and put on vsync on or change ur max foreground fps to lower setting.

Not necessarily, I have crossfired 6970's and they often reach 90+c, the website states these temperatures are within the specifications, they can even reach 100c and run fine.

However OP if your reaching 95c on a single GPU then depending on your ambient temperature, you may have cooling issues. As Fuse says enable Vsync and see if that helps.

I have a problem close to this, my gpu is getting insanely hot even at lowest gfx settings. only setting i didnt lower is "1920-1080" Can this be right?

I have tried reverting from 12.4 catalyst to 11.3 it didnt do any difference. I have cleaned the whole case "raid max" and the cooler on my gfx "my gfx card is the same as OP"

I guess my question is can it really be right that its getting 90+c after a few min. i fire up Diablo III?

On a side note i run Crysis and other high demanding graphics games just fine at max settings.
