Equipping magic find gear before killing something

Just coming here to ask if it´s actually worth it. I can reach a good 390 magic find but I notice no difference in loot.

Is it broken? Does it work? Could anyone explain how it works?

It works. At the moment magic find is calculated the second you kill a mob. So switching the last second gives you a large benefit.
You have to keep in mind though, that the game has a set chance for rolling magic (blue), rare (yellow)... items. Say your chance that a dropped item is rare is 1%. Then 100% magic find increases this chance to 2%, which is still a small chance.
Blizzard apparently doesn't like last second gear switching, which is why they are working on a "fix" for that.

What happens when a mob dies is this (as far as loot goes anyway)
Item type and level rolls to get the basic white item.
Roll to determine if the item is white or OTHER <-------- This is the only roll MF affects
If other roll to determine if blue, yellow or legendary.
Roll stats

So, basically it just means the whites that drop are more likely to be blues/yellows/reds instead, it doesn't directly increase the chance of rares dropping.

Also it has diminishing returns past 100 MF, so 300 MF is appox the same as having 150MF if it was a linear progression. As 5 NV give you 75 MF, I find MF after 25 fairly pointless IMHO. Item swapping before the kill is just painful and lame so I'm very glad it will be nerfed :)

I hope they do the MF switchign fix sensibly and not by making gear switching kill your NV, or only possible in town etc - some of like to carry alt gear around like shields, different amulets etc for reason that have nothing to do with goldf find/magic find hacking.

If they really have to do something (dont understand why its such a big deal), then delay the effect of MF/GF by 30 seconds, so at least shields and other armor/res etc work.

I just know in the end they are ghoing to futher screw trhis game up for everyone however.

Killing NV wouldn't be good, I agree. I switch gear for reflect dmg packs for example. One solution would be to average the amount of MF you wear during the fight. That way, switching for 3 seconds only wouldn't benefit you very much.

I think it works. When I don't equip my MF I rarely ever get Yellows.. But when I do equip them I get tend to get at least one. With 5 stacks of NV I can often get 2+ yellows from Champs/Elites
