Raising cap of item auctions?

Dear community,

I'd like to know your opinion on the current state of the AH (both gold and RM), and your thoughts on the possibility of a cap raise on the auction list (not total eradication of the limit). Let's face it, a 10 item limit on the AH, with no ability to cancel previous auctions is just plain frustrating. I have only been playing for a few days, but I wonder if Blizzard would take this into consideration for future patches? Maybe a possibility of raising the cap to 15 or 20 items?

What do you think?

20 would be good, but first Blizz should solve the bots and item flippers problem.
2nd. there should be a cap on max price much lower then it is now, maybe 50 mil max

Ha stupid idea, 50 mil cap...forget seeing decent items on AH then people will just go to offsites.

Agree with maybe 20 auctions though.

And P.S flippers arent a problem, its just a way of makking mney, dont hate.

If they increase the number of action is going to be a spam of garbage items or overpriced ones.

I think they should reduce the number of autions so people care about pricing and stuff not just put 10mil from the start

Raising cap is one option but another idea maybe just to let us to revise price & re-list items from the 50 available 'send-to-stash' slots.

Also please let us see the item card for items that we have sold, there are many occasions when I can't remember the item by name when sending AH earnings to stash.

I think 10 items per AH is fine to stop it being completed flooded, it's bad enough now.

However the ability to cancel your own auctions (provided there have been no bids) needs to be included I agree.

I suggest the following changes.

The idea revolves around auction slots. These are a ticket to allow you to post an item up for sale to the auction house. Posting items on the auction house consumes a auction slot ticket.

For gold auction house...
1. All players will have at least enough auction slots to have 10 listings at any time.
2. Posting an item for sale consumes an auction slot.
3. Completed auctions may refund a auction slot to fulfil 1.
4. Players are awarded 5 additional auction slots every day during night time maintenance.
5. Players can have at most 100 auction slots at any time.
6. Cancelling an auction refunds an auction slot.
7. When no auction slots remain a fee is applied to further auction postings of an additional 10% which has to be paid up front and is only refunded if the auction is cancelled.

These rules are modified for the real money auction house with the following amendments.
1. Minimum number of possible listings is 5.
4. Number of auction slots received every day is 2.
5. Cap of auction slots is 40.
7. Fee is £0.30 per additional posting.

The idea of the changes is to allow auction listing slots to build up over time for players who do not play regularly. In addition power sellers can list any number of items they want if they are willing to pay the fee. The limit exists to prevent people who do not play for a few years coming back to "4000 auction slots remaining" which is a ridiculous number and could possibly be used to perform a DoS attack in the future. The fee exists to discourage item flippers and act as an additional gold sink for power sellers.

The changes with the RMAH are to allow people the ability to bulk list items (such as if they retire) while discouraging people from listing 100s of items (such as a business or item flipper).

In addition to this change, I advise the following for active auctions.
* auctions can be cancelled any time there is no bids on it with exception of the last 6 hours.
* auctions with no bids can have their starting bid price discounted to a lower value at any time.
* auctions with an immediate purchase price and no bids can have the immediate purchase price discounted at any time to at lowest the current bid price.
* discounting an immediate purchase price below a current bid will result in the item being purchased instantly by the player at the specified immediate purchase price.
* discounting immediate purchase price of items with active bids requires 1 hour to process and only 1 change can be queued at any time.
* commodity auctions no longer time expire but are otherwise unaltered.

Changes to allow more efficient usage of auction slots. Strict timing conditions are required to prevent abuse.

Thanks for the posts. There are a lot of possibilities to remedy the current situation, and different opinions are welcome. Can't wait to see what's in store for the future patches.

We're looking to add the stats of items in the Completed tab. We also want to make it so that you can see the listing price of unsold and cancelled items in the Completed tab too.

We agree too. As long as the item doesn't have any bids, we want to provide players with the option to cancel an auction at any point after it's posted. We're hoping to get this in for 1.0.4, but obviously that might change depending on implementation and testing.

you're mistaken, once the gold is sent to stash you cannot do this.
so you cant go over your auction log to see the stats of stuff you sold a week ago
(unless you keep the gold in "completed" which is not smart - there is 50 item cap, and you cant use the gold while its in completed)

so i thank you guys at blizzard for working on ah list improvements

Nah, 10 items is ok. It forces you to think about what items are worth selling and to price them reasonably. Increasing the limit would not increase the amount of good/affordable items, it would only increase the amount of overpriced junk. I think a better approach would be to allow custom auction duration. As it is now, most buyouts happen in the first 10 min of the auction, most bids in the last 10 min. In between the item's sitting on the AH for 36h without anyone looking at it.

will we be looking forward to that in 1.0.4? or not? just out of curiousity :)
