Diablo® III

D1 and D2 remake

29/08/2012 18:19Posted by Minotaur
Yeah, but how many would be playing D2 if the characters didn't wipe after 90 days inactivity, I know I would be if I hadn't missed a 90 day logon by a day some years ago.
Actually, an expired character is not necessarily wiped. Nowadays you can still log in on that character and play on it, removing expired status. I assume the only time the character is really wiped is when someone picks the same name, but I'm not sure. I just know that none of my characters have been permawiped for years even if they've been expired a few times.

I presume you are thinking of an HD remake of Diablo I and II, please correct me if I am wrong :-)

Such a thing exists, it is a phenomenal SC2 custom map with all the features of classic Diablo with SC2 graphics, even random maps and all the original sound files. It's a really good play and I recommend it to anyone getting a bit nostalgic.

...as I personally enjoyed the levelling of characters more than doing farm runs on max level characters :-)

Now we're talkin.. :)

Well I'd like the remakes so long as it was basically graphical and minor functional upgrades (i.e. I wouldn't mind the odd additional item / area / enemies etc.) but don't want any tweaks to drop rates etc. on them.

So basically you would prefer to take the name Diablo, and present us with a game that is no where near that standard...

because its cheaper for you, and you know that with a bit of media spin, and a few bucks to review sites retards like us will come floking and buy 10mil copies ...

Who would like to see this in a D3 version ?

i know i would

You know what ?

I made a thread about it 10 days after D3 release ...

D2 remake with +2 new classes +2 new acts new items /sets / polish with Diablo 3 graphics/sounds/animations and all...

Oh boy!!! I dont want to imagine that!!! I would die on my PC by excessive playing for sure..

The client is too "simplified" to support all D2 features. Sadly there is no fix for d3, there is only a new game that can be better then this one.

Perhaps one day we will see HD versions of Blizzard classics :-)

Yes please! Bring back Rock n' Roll Racing! And why not Lost Vikings too :) My SNES is in quite bad shape and I have no idea where my cartridges for these games are. If I even have those anymore, might have sold those at flea market way back :(

I like D3 I really do, but I do not understand how evolving mean removing all choice from the game considering stats like vit,str and skills, unless dev team thinks gamers are becoming really dumb right now and can't give points into his/her char properly..

When moving forward and evolving a game come at the expense of what the customers want it really doesn't work.
You could easily have made diablo 3 into the game it should have been, by taking diablo 2 and the excellent progress it made, while applying more modern concepts but doing so without dumbing the game down.
I don't want to point out all the flaws as that has been done ad nauseum but the biggest flaw is using weapons as the base for all damage skills , the second biggest flaw is having no way to level up skills.
The original rune system probably would have been a lot lot better if it had just been tinkered with.
As is diablo 3 is a good game but not the pinnacle of gaming it could have been.

To this day I still play diablo 2 and it is still firmly in my top10 ever made games along with the likes of tetris and super mario world on the snes.
Diablo 2 is not a game I am remembering with rose tinted lenses, it was truly an amazing feat and to have lasted as long as it has deserves every accolade that can be bestowed to it.

I bought diablo 3 expecting a sequel to diablo 1 and 2's legacy, what I got was an average hack and slash that while comparable to the likes of sacred 2 and other middle of the road knock-offs. So yes maybe I shouldn't have held blizzard to the heights it was once capable of , however that is the reason fans get upset, because we held blizzard to a higher standard than other companies and in diablo 3 it has fallen significantly short of the mark.

I am sure a lot of people would love to see that, myself included of course as I have great memories of both those games. It may not be a good idea to wish for this too hard though, because our developers prefer for their games to move forward and evolve.

Most developers generally prefer to spend their time creating new things, which is why we generally do not see many HD remakes of great game classics I guess. Also, doing HD remakes require a lot of resources as well as time to do properly, which I am sure is also a factor for why HD remakes are not more common than they are. That being said, one should never say never. Perhaps one day we will see HD versions of Blizzard classics :-)

Diablo II HD - 15 years anniversary (like settlers 2 10 years)

Great idea but few things for sure would have to be done:

- New graphic engine
- one stash for all chars
- seperate loot
- 1 more Act
- not touched by Jay Wilson
- gold autopick
- male/female
- no AH/RMAH

I think thats all, maybe "only" RMAH, but really no, as I do not use AH now, its hard to find group without some 800dmg weapon on hell act2/3 etc. Thats why also I hope for no-AH server in d3 - fresh start, fresh economy - with better drops.

Sure, they have the choice between servicing the 50.000 hardcore diablo2 nerds and selling a new game to around 10 million customers. What makes more sense ?

Yes i would love to see it.

And i would also love to see whos behind the idea of diablo 2 patch 1.13. You know, the patch who was said to be the biggest one ever which offered zero endgame and got delayed for years. No joke.

I logged on after 1 year and a half ; found 70% of my chars intact, but who cares in a fresh ladder season anyway ?
