Diablo® III

How about mainhand and offhand?

Hello,

I don't know much about the main- and offhand mechanics yet.
My dual wielding monk could be total crap without knowing it :P

Would be nice if you could check out my monk and tell what to change about them.

I would like to know what to look for on mainhand and what to look for on the offhand, like speed, dps and loh values..

Thanks!

I am not very knowledgable on this topic either and it would be great if someone more experienced with this topic could shine some light on it ^^

As far as I'm aware you want to have the highest damage / dps output weapon in your mainhand..., but I can't actually back this up with data.

You should look at maximizing both weapons just as if you only had one weapon to worry about. When you attack you will alternate between mainhand and offhand and as for skills such as Lashing tail kick and Wave of Light I suspect they use the active weapon (the weapon that's up for the next swing).

Bottom line is that there's no point in treating monk weapons like you would for a WW baba where the nados would just base their damage on the MH.

Well take a look at my items for example

If I chance my off hand
Has very low dps
But the stats, if you buy the same stats on a 850 dps, get ready to pay 50 million ++
But if I would buy this
900 dps
150 dex
800 life on hit
socket(with 70 cd)

It will a. be just as good as my off hand now. And b. will cost you alot

We're saying that your offhand matters just as much as your mainhand.

because of how barbs and monk differ in there attack moves, both also differ in how you gear weapons.
most barbs use a stat stick method in that there main hand is a big old dps weapon with loads of crit, there off hand will normally be a fast dagger with maybe ias aswell as loads of loh.

monks imo, work better with more balance in the dps,ias and to some degree loh. every time u hit a monster you will alternate between main and offhand weapons, now because most of the monks attacks are base on odd number attacks 3 & 7 your active weapon changes each attack.

so lets say you have a 900dps main with a faster 700dps offhand weapon. everytime you pop off sweeping wind that bases its attack damage off the current active weapon on start up, the damage you deal will vary.

so i always try and keep weapons more balanced in there stats dps, crit,as & loh/ls, its not written in stone that you have to have it balanced but its nice to know that your always gonna be doing similar damage no matter what weapon is currently active.

Is replacing my fast dagger by a slow weapon with 150 more dps smart?
Or do I really need the speed for the LOH?
