Whats the best weapons for monk?

What weapons would be the best to use for a dual wielding monk? What to aim for?

How important is +crit dmg (/sock) on the weapon vs raw weapon damage?

Depends on your budget...

You'd want fast weapons, so a sword, dagger (low DPS usually) or a fist weapon.

At first, try to get a socket (or some crit damage), some dex and as much DPS as budget permits.

Lots of higher end monks have an Echoing Fury. This weapon can roll high DPS and has a good amount of dex on it. The most attractive trait is +0.25 attack speed, which boosts the other weapon as well.

Look at my profile. My monk is pretty advanced. I have high DPS weapons, both sockets with maxed out gems. My offhand only has life steal and a socket. Upgrades for me would be getting these kinds of weapons, but with critical damage on it. My offhand could use some dex as well.

You have about the same DPS as i have ;)

Budget is always unlimited when asking what kind of weapons is the best.

Is life steal better then life on hit? Life on hit procs allot when dual wilding but with very high dps the life steal could be nice as well, i dont know :)

So Echoing Fury + a weapon with high dps, LS/LOH, +CD and socket?

I believe that when you get over 100K DPS then LS is better than LoH. The reason is that LoH is 'fixed' while LS scales with your DPS.

Maybe the best combination is an EF with a decent Won Khim Lau (WKL). With the WKL you will get LS/LoH and a socket not LS/LoH, CHD and a socket. The advantage of the WKL is the 'lightning skills do n% more damage' - it's best to get the n% as high as possible (check out my WKL). To make the most of the WKL you need to use Fists of Thunder and Sweeping Wind as these two skills are lightning based. Also the 'adds n% to lighting damage' really is 'adds n% of lighting damage'....

A good WKL is not cheap though.

The problem with the EF is the 'fear factor' which means the monsters run away from your area of effect spells (and the AoE effects of members in a party/public game). Some people don't like to play with players who use a EF for that reason.

For looking at what produced DPS use a web based DPS calculator such as this one: http://www.d3rawr.com/d or the Asian Gamer one: http://theasiangamer.com/d3-damage-calculator/

With the WKL I don't think any DPS calculator shows the DPS from the 'lightning skills do n% more damage'.

@Chidi - post a link to your profile. For some reason there is no link under your name.

This is false. The adds 5-6% to lightning damage is shown on the paper dps and you can easily see that if you compare two WKL with same dext and DPS, it is damage added on top of your black damage as a percentage of it.

This means that is u use a mainhand that does light damage or any other elemental damage, the effect of adding this 5-6% will be lower compared to a "black weapon" like WKL.

So pure dmg without any elemental added damage is the best weapon to use in combination with other items that adds % elemental damage like the "zurimaza boots" or whatever they are called that add poison damage.

Yes without testing the EF i know it might be irritating to have them feared all the time and it probably procs allot with super fast attack speed. How do you guys who use it think it is to play with? Allot of chasing?

dpswise the EF+WKL combo provides the best setup afaik. EF is "blackdmg" and as mentioned, the +0,2X% attacks per second equals a +2X% IAS on your gear. that is really hard to outperform on similar prices.

i personally HATE the fearproc of echoing fury. it !@#$s up positioning and you kinda lose out effective dps, because you seperate mobs and keep porting behind your maintarget. if you attack in a direction without a target, then you kinda fling away the mobs and it just prolongs the fight. in general you need to focus alot more, because else you might end up on arcanes, molten, desecrator, etc... while porting behind feared stuff.

best way to check it out. get a monk with an EF to do a full A3 run with you together and see if it annoys you.
i always triple check and REALLY make sure ppl are aware of the fearproc and fine with it, when i am building a set for someone and consider to get a EF.

didnt know that "adds X% of XYZ dmg" shows on paper dps as well now, should read patchnotes more carefully.

Until MP7-8 things die instantly, so the fear is no big deal. Has an impact on MP9+ in group play. In solo it is ok, actually helps in some cases too.

Crit dmg + socket vs high dps weapons (with the same price range) , depends on so many factors that its impossible to say witch one is best ...

The only way to know for sure is to use a dps calculator !

What about dual wielding the Hallowed Weapons? I have gone back and forth between them and Diabos with higher dmg, and dual wielding those two seems to be the best. Need a holy dmg multiplier though.
