One rule: no rules!

One rule: no rules!

Competitive 1v1 StarCraft II matches can really get the heart racing, especially if an unexpected drop or Nydus Worm wreaks havoc on your mineral line! Trying to guess where your enemy is going to make his next move is enough to keep anyone on edge—but what if you had more than just the one opponent to deal with? If you think your nerves can handle it, well you’re ready for the Free-For-All (FFA) mode!

The rule in FFA mode is simple: be the last one alive on the battlefield. How you achieve that is up to you! Perhaps you’ll form an alliance with your enemies before stabbing them in the back as soon as it’s safe to do so. Maybe instead you’ll ‘turtle’ and keep quiet for the whole game in the hope that the others will soon forget about you. Whichever plan you choose, FFA battles usually end up in an epic clash for domination, with swarms of Battlecruisers, Carriers and Brood Lords fighting for the ultimate victory.

So, are you familiar with this mode and do you like to engage your friends in a glorious FFA confrontation? Maybe you’re a newcomer to the fantastic FFA mode and looking for some advice. Whatever your situation, be sure to let us know your experiences, stories and survival tactics in the comments.

FFA is full of 2v1v1 BEFORE game beging and THAT are the most stupid thing I ever see...
If we can't go on FFA with group why let you player who know each other play together ? That not Ingame alliance, that just farming... And that really pathetic !
Do something Blizzard or FFA is never FFA !

This one had the poor luck to encounter a pair that teamed up in its first FFA game... It may be that most games are free from such scum, but it does not make it very enjoyable...

The biggest weaknesses in FFA is that there's no ladder system, so that newbies will quite often come up against experts, and the complete lack of rewards...

Insert a number of new portraits there, as well as a series of FFA-specific achievements, and it'll be much more enjoyable as well as used... Possible achivements: race type, specific strategies, army size, income size, etc... (not necessarily achievements that require winning...)

@Ptah: Blizz doesn't insert rewards for FFA just because they know that the smart guys will team up, it would make most rewards useless

FFA rocks. I alrdy played about 400 and won the half. It's important to collect scouting information constantly and adapt to your enemys strats. In the begin I try to get as much expansions as possible while pumping some units. Cannons in the begin or tower aren't mobile. I prefer moving stuff. Exploit stealth attacks to cripple enemys eco or finish them early when they go lame mass void ray or anything. Take some exps let the others fight each other and erase them with your huge invincible army. easy :)

Problem is, FFA isn't ranked. So I feel no urge to jump in. Maybe if I want to get the hang of trying out a new race but other than that....

one rule: :"Nydus Worm wreaks havoc on your mineral line!"

Sadly, someone who wrote this text must be in bronze league cause he doesnt know that nydus can be countered easily by workers.

And i think there should be ffa ladder.

I like ffa, eventho it kinda degenerated to a rush hour, rushing is like the lowest for of play after cheese, but even in ffa where ur supposed to have epic battles of ridiculous amounts of units... omg, same with the teamgamesm rush after rush after rush "win is everything" yay, as much fun as lighting my ballz lawl, rushers, u suck!

FFA are fun however it always kinda ends up with me doing the hard work then another guy just turtles around and either i got damaged by taking the others out or i have full map control, (Zerg creep ftw!) And they always be massing carriers and Battlecruisers...
There should be a FFA map with out a natural expo or atleast multiple entrances to the base, so these turtle while be either roasted or poked out of their shell.

I've had a FFA or two, and as long as they don't quit immediately, they turn out pretty fun. My favourite had a PPTT matchup (me as P); it ended in an epic battle between two like-minded Protoss players - Stalkers and Colossi en masse, and with a good bit of micro (and my opponent taking time to switch to Void Rays), I just about won. Didn't come away unscarred, though, as he tore through a good chunk of my base before fending it off and unleashing my final assault.

All in all, attacking in one direction and being attacked from another is quite the nerve-shocker, and knowing nobody else is going to help directly, just hoping someone attacks their base at the right time really pushes the adrenaline through. Picking a strategy that's able to counter anything is key - otherwise you'll beat one opponent hands down, only to be wiped out by the next. If you like epic battles between the largest, most varied and most powerful armies, FFA is definitely for you.

I find FFA games to be entertaining now and again, the thing is that game is based on alot of luck imo. I play them very rarely, but it can be fun.

FFAs are too easy for terrans :S
Well I may be wrong, I did only a few matches and every time it's someone with 50+ BC that crushes everyone because he turtled. I'm just too scared to attack or harass the only terran player.

It's just a generic article to get the 45% players who play in Bronze League to try out FFA. Don't get mad!

I think ffa deserves a higher spotamongst the sc2 players, even tough it ight be hard to see whats fun when everyone quit within 10sec, but if you find a good match i think its one o the best gamemodes :)
