How was your StarCraft II launch?

The launch of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty was much more than just the release of a game; it was nothing less than a global event, with countless gamers across the world celebrating the continuation of the StarCraft saga!

Thousands of people went to the official Midnight Openings here in Europe. Everyone helped to make this launch both special and memorable, from casual gamers looking for something new to play to dedicated fans in StarCraft costumes.

But of course, everyone has their own story of what happened on launch day. Many went to the Midnight Openings, while others stayed at home. Some did goofy StarCraft-related things in the streets or online, and of course there were those who just got on with playing the game, without any fuss. Some people undoubtedly had to wait before joining in the fun, as work or study allowed little more than StarCraft-themed doodles on scraps of paper.

What did you do on launch day?

Managed to get the Collector's Edition from a game store without having to pre-order anything. Was a pretty lucky bastard, I guess. ;-P

After installing the game from the downloaded client I had waited for the parcel to be delivered by UPS. After I had returned home from renovating my new flat it was already waiting for me.

Well, I didn't really had the energy to join the midnight opening. I felt pretty lucky when I bought the last collector's edition set from the store the other day though. ((:

Not so good at all. 5 crashes when installing and updating. But I eventually fixed the problem with Ccleaner. (Fixed REG).

Release day was allright. I underestimated the postal system and expected it the say after. Pleasant suprise :)

The only thing that bothered me was the 2 hour wait to confirm my battle.net account e-mail. That was two loooong hours.
And after that I've gone to bed a tad later then I should have :p (like an hour or two)

The release day for me was uneventful because I had forgotten about the exact date. But I soon realised my mistake and went to my nearest computer store here in Gothenburg Sweden and they had a couple of copies left.

After about 20 minutes of installation and 10 minutes of battlenet configuration I was ready to go and everything worked perfectly. I then checked the settings to make sure the graphics settings was set to the highest possible on everything but the autoconfiguration had already done that. Excellent.

All I can say is good job Blizzard! Both the campaign and the multiplayer games work perfectly with absolutely no lags or slowdowns at all and the graphics are very good as well.

I ended up played from the 29:e and four days almost constantly only taking breaks for sleeping and for a snack or two.
But now Im back at work again after 5 weeks of holiday so Im gonna have to wait a while before I can get back into the action. =)

My Starcraft 2 launch was bad. The Swedish mail office delivered my game 1 day late because they don't give a damn about northern Sweden.

I long until I move to southern Sweden in 2 years...

I went to the nearest game store with my older brother and we were there 22 minutes early. I noticed that we were the first one there and when the store opened I noticed that we were the ONLY ONES there. Because we were the first ones there we got StarCraft 2 shirts. Sometimes Finland sickens me.

@Miksu: Yeah not much of a rush here in Finland.. Me and my friend were the only ones to "line up" at the local store when the launch happened. And it just happened so that the store had gotten ONLY TWO copies of the game that day. Guess I was a bit lucky.

My launch was terrible, tried logging on at around 7pm eventually managed to play at 10pm, (starcraft is not associated with my account etc...) must have tried over 50 times to login, words cant express the frustration, now whenever I start the game I am worried it wont let me log in just out of instinct.

I preordered the game from a online store in sweden on the 24th. On the 27th I tried to get something done at work, but that was futile. I had been like a little kid for 3 days straight. Got home from work, and there in the mailbox, was it. My brand new CE of SWII!! I just laughed of pure happiness! Went in, started the install, took 'bout 30 min+5 to set up to battle.net. Started playing. The only thing I could say was..WOW!! The only sad thing was that I had to work the next day :( Waited 'till the weekend, then me and my buds pulled Starcraft for 36 hours straight!!

I was so excited to get going.. but i couldn't get connected to battle.net server to register for 2 days. Was anxiety-provoking and unfortunate, but now that it's working, I can't wait to get home from work to get on with accumulating achievements! :)

I had to wait two days for the game to download due to two failed attempts (left it on overnight, while at work etc).
So my experience was crap.

I installed the game on my four years old computer (took 90 minutes !), then started to play it with all settings turned to the minimum.
I just can't believe the game runs so well without any freezes (low framerate, gameplay issues etc...) ! It's just less beautiful than with all settings Ultra, ok, but thanks Blizzard for having made that possible ! I even can play on Battle.net against opponent with high end computer without having to suffer any penalty, at last from my point of view.
Can't wait for the expansion packs with Zergs and Protoss campaign now. Cheers Blizzard !

Listened to the soundtrack, checked the CE-Art-Book, installed SCII on my GFs and my computer, watched her falling in love with Jimmy but had this gorgeous music to solace me.

I took my first day off in 2 years. I own a small computer store in South Africa and don’t ever get the chance to take a day for myself. Being the only employee the reasons to rest don’t come often. Well blizzard you gave me a reason to spend a day on my own with StarCraft 2 . Thanks for a great game and making the world and all the troubles disappear for a little while. Greetings from south africa.

I got the game at the release and here's what I got to say:

I loved the improved graffics, enjoyed the campaign, editor... no.
I mean I know how to work with it but the publish system here isn't working right. And I kept changing the name of my first map (that was the problem) and still couldn't publish.

Now I can barely publish anything because of the names. (they aren't even offensive).

But yeah besides that, it's really good.

The day of the 27th, i sat back at my PC and waited for the 09:00 release here in UK, I had already installed the game. and had it all setup, all i had left to do was get my license. After completing the purchase of the license, @ 09:01, it took the server an hour, before it would let me log in, I had to email technical support, i had an error saying "no assocated license to my account". It was now 11:00 i had not heard back for EU Support, so i tried resetting my password for my Battlenet account, as this was something i had already done on the BETA testing, which resolved my problem.

I then emailed technical support to tell them the news, in which they replied praticly instantly saying the ticket was closed.

So you asked me my experience on release.
I was very disapointed,.

Went over to a friend with my newly bought super laptop and a 22" screen monday the 26th. We cleared his place for as good as we could. Around 22 oclock (10 pm) I headed down to where i work in Blockbuster to secure and pack 5 bags with collectors edition, t-shirts, posters, candy etc. etc. At 23:59 I was the first in line, and my friends had arrived. We got our games and headed home to install it (at that point we were 7 people in the same 3 room appartment). Unfortunatly one of the mates im playing 3v3 with had a super slow laptop, which took 2½ hours installing the game. After that though, we played for 16-18 hours a day till now! ;-)

When the store called that they have my copy, I had to hold myself back from skipping to the store, and then to hold myself back from skipping back home with the copy in my hands.

I still couldn't manage to hold back the smile.

When I installed the game, i had shivers running down my spine.
