WCS Europe Finals to Take Place in Sweden’s Ericsson Globe

On September 15 and 16, the StarCraft II World Championship Series (WCS) is returning to Sweden. The WCS Europe Finals will bring together the top 32 European StarCraft II players in Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe – Sweden’s national indoor arena.

Europe’s best players have been determined through a series of live national finals events that have taken place throughout the summer. The continent’s top StarCraft II eSports talent will now compete for a piece of the $60,000 USD prize pool and one of the six remaining European spots in the Battle.net World Championship in Shanghai this November.

Produced in partnership with DreamHack, the WCS Europe Finals will be one of the biggest eSports stage shows to ever hit Europe, including an in-house BarCraft, a merchandise store, the opportunity to play some of the latest Blizzard games and meet some of Europe’s most popular pro gamers, and much more.

The Ericsson Globe, constructed in 1989, is the largest spherical building in the world. The venue has been home to world and European championships for ice hockey, basketball, and handball. The arena is a fitting location for this groundbreaking eSports event, which is expected to attract StarCraft II fans and players from all across Europe.

All highlighted matches will be played live on stage at the Ericsson Globe, with production and shoutcasting from DreamHack. Click here to buy tickets, which range from 320-375 SEK (roughly €38-45). If you can’t make it to the event in person, you’ll be able to follow all the action live via HD stream. Stay tuned for more information.

Check out what DreamHack has to say about the Europe Finals event on their official website.

60.000 USD! Imagine how big the world championship finals will be!

1st Place prizepool will probably be close to 30K USD that is huge!
@SGǂHartassen: 1st place prize for the Europe Finals is $24.000. In addition the qualification for the Global Finals which includes Travel and Accommodation.
What should be noted is that with all European Nationals, all participants get a piece of the prize pool.

@Vaneck:

Of course everyone gets a part of the prize pool. I've followed most of the WCS so far and I know the format pretty well :)

I'm just glad you guys are giving out nice prize pools to further e-sports even more. It's deserving of this kind of money.

Any information about how many players will attend WCS global finals and how much money will be at stake there? Or is that information yet to be released?

@ThunderEagle:

The article clearly states USD as I also said in my OP :)

(sorry for double post, but there's no way to edit)
@SGǂHartassen: Soon we will release more information as of how many players are participating in the WCS Global Finals in China. Same goes for the prize money :) However, some players from Europe directly qualified for the Global Finals which are Stephano, Socke and Titan as the National Champion of France, Germany and Russian Federation already earned direct spots. At the Europe Finals there will be 6 slots up for grabs. But if Stephano, Socke or Titan place top 6 the next ranked player will qualify for the Global Finals as they already qualified.

@Liveon: Dreamhack doesn't charge anything for their HD streams, thanks to their partnership with twitch.tv. There'll probably be commercial breaks instead.
