The Epic Win

The Epic Win

There are certain successes in gaming that are so exhilarating and satisfying that they can only be described as an “epic win.”

Epic wins can take on many forms. Occasionally, an epic win will follow a long string of defeats; after fighting what seems to be an impossible battle, you’re able to come from behind and claim a last-minute victory for yourself or your team. Other times, an epic win is the culmination of several perfect in-game actions: your APM is high, your build orders are precision-timed, your micro and macro are flawless -- everything falls into place as if predestined, and when you come out victorious, you sort of just want to sit back, put your hands behind your head, and say to yourself “yeah, that was awesome.”

These successes can occur in any game you play, really; from board games to PC games, you can achieve an epic win in almost any challenging environment. In fact, while StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has only been out for about a month, we imagine that many of you have already experienced your share of epic wins, be it in single-player or multiplayer games. Given how positive and exciting these successes can be, we think it would be a great topic to open up to the community.

So, tell us: what’s your epic win moment?

Hey guys had a few great wins so far but none as satisfying as this so thought i'd share the replay =D

Only bronze league, but Protoss Vs Protoss - I started by blocking my main entrance, and Kenji must have known where I was to start with as he immediately started by blocking the way out with ported in troops.

I held back and realised there was another way out, through the south expansion of my base! but Kenji hadn't clicked on - so I Teched to Dark Templars, managed to sneak out and create a 3rd expansion south - and grouped my templar task force.

I managed to stealth all the way to his main base, and wiped him from his base all the way back to mine.

Love watching it from his perspective, seeing a column of invisible templars on their way to wreak havoc! i'm sure he thought he had me cornered with no chance in hell of making a come back!

hope you like!

My 'epic' experience to date occured in 3v3 silver. PPT v TTP, I was in the double protoss team playing as a toss. The game started quite interestingly, the other team tried to block us with mm and siegetanks, but we managed to repel them from our doorstep. A couple minutes later our other protoss' connection failed and he dropped, another couple of minutes and my teams' terran drops as well. I was left alone, with the other teams' mass battlecruisers (both opposing terrans went for BCs) and mass voidrays near my base. I went for ground forces from the start - stalkers, a few immortals, collosi and high templars. Luckily my teammates who dropped set up production lines for stalkers and vikings. I hardly managed to repel the first assault on my base. Heavy loses on both sides, yet the the opponents got the upper hand and obliterated half of my base. Seeing massive airforce coming, I sent my ground troops to the enemy positions whre they could be of some use and won some ground forcing remaining cruisers to retreat and defend and one of the terrans to flee with his structures. I was under heavy pressure 1v3 but kept producing vikings, stalkers and HT's after I rebuilt a bit. I knew I had to put some pressure on them - If they attacked simultaenously on my 3 bases at different points, I wouldn't manage to control my forces properly, It was already quite hard to macro and they would outplay me. The fight had to be taken to them instead. They kept producing BCs and VRs, one terran went for thors later. We had a few big and hectic fights during that gameplay and in the end I finished off one terran base and destroyed their supply lines behind their main bases, avoiding heavy fortifications in the front. After that, 2 of them quit claiming a gg, the only terran left was quite starving, the resources run out on both sides. Without gas I spammed marines and he should have done the same. He might have won if he did but instead, he turtled in his base, made tanks and AA turrets. I took the last mineral field on the map, built up some forces and pushed one last time. Hard earned victory, a fight lasting for over an hour and a feeling of accomplishement. Yeah, that was epic.

Tried a simple proxy barracks play for the first time. Turns out my Protoss friend was proxy 4 gating me at the same time. I stalled him by letting his zealots take my Command Centre to low health then lifted off to his now 'ex' base. Destroyed his Nexus and revealed him. It was a good game with short bursts of furious micros. We both laughed.

The last mission in the campaign :D
not (only) because it's the last mission, BUT:
i had great trouble keeping the enemys out of base each time after the QoB came in to destroy all my precious flame turrets and aa turrets. everytime rebuild just in time.
but then, right before time was up there was not chance, every unit, every defensive structure was destroyed, the QoB came in and teared my base apart, started to attack the artifact.
probably only seconds before the artifact and my command center would have been destroyed time was up - boom - epic final movie.
so, really, terrible match for me, but felt great and as thrilling as an epic last mission should feel, though i got through it the first time and didn't have to play it over and over again (which really sucks when you want to see the movie for the first time).
i am tempted to call this an epic^2 final mission ;)

Me and my teammate Dodger, (both terran) @ our 3rd ranked match.

First two we lost. So naturally we were kind of whacked at the difficulty level (or so we thought). 3rd game we played @ High Orbit v a Terran and a Toss. It was a very heavy fight and the terran placed in my natural (the one covered with rocks) a proxy barracks. We discovered it and just be4 he destroyed the rocks we had a small welcoming committee for him. Lost a lot of troops there. Then the Toss attacked head on @ our reinforced ramp. Our remaining stationary forces and the survivors of the previous skirmish lost the upcoming fight. Luckily we had already constructed a second wall that led to my base. Dodger had difficulty dealing with the Toss while I poured marine after marine at the Toss. Finally overcoming them. Quickly giving some recources to my mate we quickly responded with some marines and marauders to keep pressure on them. Besides the Terran was still overcoming his failed attack so he was also weakened. The next 30 minutes were hell on earth. MMM attacks, warp prisms in our base. Expansions that were kicked the hell out of. But slowly Dodger and me got a foothold at the base of their ramp. Dodger had the vast proportion of our land army with Thors and Siege Tanks. Assisted by my Marines and Marauders. Meanwhile I kept air superioraty with vikings some battlecruisers and ravens against pesky Dark Templars. Our push came @ the 51 minute mark. Heavy losses at both sides, but the terran lost to our power, meanwhile the protoss was concerned with the battle, i send some to his mineral facilities. Obviously his main army was busy with, slightly, more important thins as simple probes. So I could take down his 2 expansions. The Battle waged on and the protoss was forced more and more to his own base. Meanwhile I send a couple of my medivacs to get the marines and marauders and attack him from behind, and ofcourse the reapers who were eating outta their noses. And the toss called gg. Finally. It wás my first real multiplayer victory and still, my most precious one :D. Nowadays it all appears to be a lot easier and ofcourse you learn from your mistakes, but I have to say... man what a hard earned victory.

GG

A Protoss once destroyed my base so quickly on scrap station that, frustrated I decided to keep playing with my only expand on the "isle" on the north of the map. He wasn't pushing so as my economy was back in track I expanded in the south east spot protected by rocks and I did mass marines. He envetually destroyed my "isle" base but with a quick mass marines rush I did destroyed his main and I finally won. When I saw the replay, it appears that he didn't expand. Epic fail for him, epic win for me !

hehe mine was a PZvPT, my friend goes fast expand and i have to defend with my army intensive build to 4 warpgate so i can defend pretty good with help of my mate, but then we see the other protoss going for only phoenixs and start harassing our mineral lines really hard, my mate can't even spend all his money because overlords we're all sniped. So he sends to me as toss and i make huge army but then mass thor vs my warp gates (with HT) and i was storming the hell out of them but then i was misclicking on F in stead of T and i realise that i could feedback 'em! i see the whole phoenix army flying trying to lift off my units while fighting the thors and i feedback em all in 3 seconds, they ragequit ^^

Imagine having one building left each (1v1), both visible on the map. My forces were racing to get that last building, while his was doing the same. I won because my Void Rays were a bit quicker then his zerglings.

Imagine the image when both armies corssed each other in the middel of the map, without as much as touching each other, just to get to the last building :-D

Did you have a couple of pylons left in said opponents base when the last hatchery went down? in that case i really hate the fact that i didn't put more spore crawlers down before i moved out... Although, however epic it might have been for you, it was infinitely more epic fail for your opponent.

Hey, I just loose like you say.

I have a 60+ hydra and op have 30+ voids.
And he goes to kick my first base and I was on the other side on the map going to destruct his base.

And he win without killing any of my hydra.

That's is my epic fail and his epic win :)

Sorry, about my bad english.
