The 2012 Battle.net World Championship — Day 1

After eight months of qualifiers, national championships, and unique continental tournaments, the Blizzard World Championship Series began its epic conclusion tonight at 6:00 p.m. PST with the opening ceremony for the 2012 Battle.net World Championship at the Shanghai Expo-Mart in Shanghai, China.

All 32 finalists in the StarCraft II Global finals were introduced to thunderous applause, and play got underway with eight groups of four players – each group including players from three different continents – facing off in best-of-three , double-elimination group play, with two players advancing from each group.

If your purpose was to give us a tournament to remember by having from no sound to horrible sound and low video quality then you have succeeded it and don't have to keep doing it.

Thank you Blizzard for showing us what a true professional tournament hosted by you looks like .

It's nice to see vods released in such a clear manner, but none the less I'm really shocked by the quality of production (sounds mixed up, the color settings - my eyes!).

It's really sad that the finals of this otherwise so well produced and interesting to follow championship had such issues. I would've expected more. It's somewhat painful to admit that I'm glad I didn't stay up to watch these live.

The WCS is a fantastic thing for SC2 in terms of visibility and prestige and I hope we'll continue to see it with HotS, sans the issues!
