Help me. How to get good as Terran
|
|
This is the first time I have ever come across someone who actually describes in detail how they play the way they do. I am in silver and I am really struggling. I worked my way up from bronze but it took me ages. The thing that I dont understand though is how you keep things going at your base e.g building supply depots, building expansions and new production buildings. I mean I understand that you like to keep focussing on your army but how do you keep things running at your bases whilst you are moving your army around?

Well, jokes on me, but I am playing this game for quite a while without knowing that forums, videos, etc. are helping guys to master some skills in this game. In my final desperation I found this forum. SC and I have an old history together which started out in '98. Don't worry, I'll stick to the point. Back then, I was playing with my friends on custom maps vs AIs, so not much was going on concerning "really tough" matches. However, those games we played were hardcore for us since we didn't even know what video games were. 12 years later I started playing SCII, of course, in single player mode. Last year in October I found out the magic of playing in multiplayer modes. Now I have quite a few wins in bronze league, and nowhere else. To avoid misunderstandings, it is not my goal to be a master, however, I'd like to have more fun which I can't have since nothing new is happening in bronze. Same old patterns, no new tricks, while in higher leagues there are awesome matches. All in all, this is what I wish for: leave bronze league and take part in gripping fights. I'm guessing this is too much to wish for now, because I am beaten tons of times in bronze. Should anyone feel the urge to help me, it would be much appreciated.
P.S. Sorry about not sticking to the point in the entire post. :) |
Awesome! Just finished all my placement matches and got into diamond league thanks to this guy! What the ... you got into Diamond League without having played the game before playing those placement matches? |

Hi,
After a long break from RTS games I felt the itch to return. Unfortunately today's RTS are different from when competed in them such as Tiberiun Sun from Westwood (now EA). As you guys can guess I'm rusty as hell and this topic really gives a starting point from which to begin. Read each page at work over the corse of the past two days. Currently playing through the campaign and getting familiar with SC2. In the weekend I'll probably dabble with some 1vs1 matches with a friend. Hope to see you guys around if there should be questions and if I need help :) |

For the past week I've been practicing the build order, splitting MCV's, hot keys. The basics really. This I've been doing against AI only. By simply improving the build order and faster building even the hardest difficulty is easy and can be outplayed. This weekend I'll be having several unranked matches against friends...can't wait until it is time to do some ladder/ranking matches.
For starters I've only been focusing on a 3rax/fast expand opener. Instead of marines I prefer to create about a handful of Reapers. If scouting shows the opponent is weak I can do a Reaper Rush. Destroy his MCV's and keep him down long enough to gain a massive advantage. Can't wait how this will work out in long term. What I don't get is why you need to actively scout every so often according to the tutorials. Once you turn the Command Center into Orbital you can occasionally scan areas. And that includes the opponents base on the other end of the map to keep you updated. Another question is. I see people using map editor and starting a "test" map in which they test their build order and such. I can't seem to find it. How/where is it? When I open Map Editor it is just the editor and nothing more. |

Hey, NicoLoco, thanks for helping out, that's great of you. I'll try to set aside some time and go through the material you provided links to in the opening post. Right now I only really look at pro VoDs in terms of anything to do with SC2, gotta wind up some stuff in real life.
In the meantime, I've had a little bit of an uncool conversation with a guy who claims it's impossible or at least not viable to win a TvZ on masters and above levels without having any air units whatsoever when the Zerg has broodlords. That guy may be right but I don't like blanket statements like that, as in just because nobody does it doesn't mean it's impossible. Can you think of a pro or GM/high master game where somebody did that without it being too much of a coinflip? Or do you think you'd be able to kill a Master zerg in the lategame without building ports? I'm not saying, like, without gimping him a bit in mid or early, but then not like merely finishing him off in late when he was basically dead in mid game, either. Basically some kind of example of a portless Terran doing well in a game where the Zerg has more than a token couple of broodlords. |
