Hi guys, I am completely new to Starcraft, Only played about 15games, I am hooked already! (Gawd dam you Blizzard, You've done it again!)
Anyway im having great trouble playing against stelthed units. I had a good number of M+M's ready to attack the enemys base, 3 dark templers took out the whole of my squad (+20 units). So 1st Noob question is, Can I detect stelth on the move away from my base?

Then a few games ago 2 stelthed banchys attacked my base full of M+M's again but I could'nt detect them, I managed to get a Missile pad and a tower up but they did'nt seem to do anything? They picked me off one by one. :(

Any Tips for this Noobness of mine?

Cheers..

I'd recommend useing the Scan ability from your Command Center, ( if you got the parabol thingy upgrade, the name escapes me), it can reveal fog of war, but it also reveals stealthed units i believe ( I'm not 100% sure, but i do believe that is the case)

Its called the "Orbital Command"

Can be built after you have a barracks for 150 Minerals I think. Can also call in MULE's which gather res like you wont believe.

Yeah the MULE's are ACE but they break after 90 seconds or so :(

I did the scan from the command center but they just ran out of sight and then there is the cool down :(

You can build a Raven at the airport (with tech lab). That unit detects stealth and has nice abilities such as auto-turrets and seeker missiles (requires upgrade).

You friendly neighbourhood stealth detector!

The key is scouting as with so many other things. If you see the darkshrine, you shouldnt push out before you have a raven or enough energy for a few scans on the orbital.

If the protoss went for Dark Templars and you DO have detection, then he's going to have thrown away a large amount of resources on some very weak units, and you would be in a very good position!

You can save energy with your Orbital Commands for scanning, which reveals stealthed units. You can also build Ravens from a Starport with a Tech Lab, as they have permanent detection. If you're trying to push into his base it can also help if you're able to set up a few Missile Turrets near your Siege Tanks as this also grants detection.

When you see you are being attacked by dark templars use the Scan ability, you find it in Orbital Command, which is an upgraded Command Center.
After a scan all those DTs will be wiped out easily. Since DTs are quite expensive and your opponent probably have invested in those only in hope of defeating you cheaply, you will win this game.

Terran have 4 ways of detecting units:

Missile turrets:
These are the obvious choice to have in your bases.

Orbital command - scanner sweep:
This is a viable option on the go, especially against dark templars. Downsides are that you WILL run out of them if the protoss player is smart, only sending one DT for you at the time. This doesn't work well vs other things such as banshees, as they can just pull away from the scan, since they are so fast.

Ravens:
It is very convenient to have one in your army if you are pushing agansit DT's, or zergs that use a lot of burrow. Lets you pick of roaches before they are inside your army.

Ghost - EMP:
Not everyone knows that they do not just remove shields and energy, but also reveal stealthed units. This however should only be used as a last resort, and if you already have ghosts in your army. You are much better off EMP'ing his entire army than spending all your energy on one DT.
