Hey,
For starters I'd like to say that I've been a long fan of blizzard, played SC and WOW a lot!
I only got around to buy starcraft 2 now and i was hyped.

The PC I'm running the game on is my friend's which is also my apartment mate..
The issue is that randomly while playing campaign the display just shuts off, it sometimes happened after 10-15minutes, but when it does it happens every 2-4minutes.
I get a black display and after a second I'll get the input source name displayed on screen. I didn't check if I don't have the issue online, I suspect it will be worse with the amount of chaos on screen.

I can still hear the music in the background when it happens..
Now it's not the display of course, tried playing on our hdmi connected tv with the same results.

I'm running newest directx and nvidia versions, even tried checking dx9 updates
Ive tried the following:
  • Adding those two lines to variables.txt
  • Underlocking my gpu 10% less
  • Replacing nvidia drivers to stock drivers (worked for somebody in the forums)
  • Add a profile to starcraft's executable to turn off NVIDIA CUDA and then turn physics to low in game (from some forum)
  • Cleaning a bit of dust from the pc box itself
  • Detached any external usb disks or peripherals connected to test PSU
    • I'm really annoyed by it, specially as I cant run the game for 3minutes sometimes without getting a crash.

    The computer was freshly installed just now, newest drivers (from motherboard to mouse), got new antivirus software installed. It has massive fans inside both for cpu, box and graphics card.. that shouldn't be the issue here, all fans running on 100% and it overheats nonetheless.

    Before it's re installation and even after no other game has caused this issue, running newest other genre graphics extensive games with no problems.

    I see tons of threads about these issues online, can't blizzard finally fix this matter somehow with Nvidia?
    Something is off here that's for sure, I'm also worried as of Diablo 3 coming out in the future
    What assurances do I have that I won't buy that game and end up with the same results on my hands???

    Hello,

    Please completely uninstall your graphic card drivers using DriverSweeper and then reinstall the newest available drivers from the Nvidia website. You can find DriverSweeper here:

    In addition to that, please also make sure that all unnecessary background applications are closed down to make sure they are not interfering with StarCraft II when you play. You can do this either by manually closing all these programs or by running Selective Startup:

    Hey Prokkar..

    I have done what you say about the drivers with a clean driver install three times, as i tried stock windows 7 drivers and nvidia's.

    I have nvidia's most updated drivers.

    Regarding background applications, we obth know that this aint the issue.
    Part of that, I dont have ANYTHING running in the background, the computer is freshly installed as I said, apart from an antivirus/internet protection application i got nothing installed almost.
    I disabled the security application functionality, it still does that.

    After 6 hours yesterday I managed to fix the issue by disabling the multi GPU of my card, this has fixed it for sure, I have been playing a couple of hours with no overheating issues.

    Although I dont see the crashing occur now, this shouldnt be a permanent solution, I want to use all my display adapter's capabilities and I dont think as a customer that I got to disable my multi GPU everytime I'm playing starcraft.

    My PC and display adapter are more than powerful to run Starcraft 2!

    Sorry I missed that part of your DxDiag and did not notice you have a dual GPU.

    SLI and dual GPU are not suppored by StarCraft II as they may cause issues with the game. In such cases we recommend that you disable the multi GPU on your card to avoid issues, which you have already done.

    This is unfortunately the only solution I can recommend as we do not support multi GPU setups.
