Totally disappointed in single-player campaign

Agree with this for the most part.
IMO the Story is not irredeemable. It has some really stupid parts, but overall I could still see it turn out good. The campaign gameplay was OK, but a lot of inconsistencies bug me. |

Asking Blizzard to write a better story than Broodwar its like asking Metallica to write a new better "Nothing Else Matters" or a better new "Black Album", its like asking Spielberg to write a new better "Indiana Jones" or George Lucas for a new better "Star Wars".
Writing a story or something that will blow the mind away isnt just like picking an apple from a tree you know... Batman - "press the [CREATIVE BUTTON] and jump to the idiotmobile Robin..." |

Yeah story was garbage and campaign was way to linear.

It sort of trailed off a little towards the end, but the vision of Zeratul is great, which is probably the main thing since it leads forward to the next two parts. I don`t think the problem is the story as much as the fact that WoL is the first of three and so necessarily leaves things hanging in midair.
I`m far more upset at dying to zergling rushes in mp than I am about the story in WoL. The game is still good, and if you get all three of them together I think the story will seem better as well. At least we can hope... |

hehe. it wasnt obvious that they are awefull game developers at this point?.
wc2 and d2 was the last awesome games they made. then came wc3 and WOW and the intellect of the dev team just plummeted and dissapiered into a black whole where any inventing thought gets destroyed -_- d3 is a total fail rip of from d1 nothing new really except that its cartoonish and children friendly in the atmosphere. sc2 is made only to please the esport and its nothing but sc1 in a wierd child friendly grafic -_- would love new features and all the stuff which have been improved in rts's over the last 15years but nope blizzard will do nothing then recreate what they already had and after hots i won't touch a blizzard product again (gotta have hots though, loved zergs and loved sc1 so yer its kinda my closure of the blizzard games since they clearly can't made games anymore, awefull outdated gameplay and grafics even though they got unlimited resources :( ) |
I don't know about you, but for me the Campaign of Wings Of Liberty is awesome. |
Check out the "What a Disappointing Campaign" thread or just google "Disappointing Campaign" and you'll find it. A lot of players think what Blizz did was defecate over one of the best stories in RTS history. A lot of people don't care >.>; |

I read through all of your opinions and I got to say that I agree with the many of you.
The WoL campaign was horrible compared to SC 1 and BW. Like remember the chill when you heard Arcturus Mengsk inaguration speech? For me the main problem with WoL was the problem you mentioned about the characters being one dimensional. Mengsk for example was never pure evil. He was/is a mastermind and a tactical genius. On this the book I, Mengsk elaborates. Jim Raynor was always the good guy but by the end of Brood War he became disappointed and lost faith in everything after the death of Fenix. Even Aldaris's death was something you had to be sorry about, because for once he was right and you as the player hastened his undoing and let Kerrigan get away with it. Concerning the retcons, alongside with the cheesy dialogues, WoL campaign took this kind of stuff to a whole new level...like why the hell Jim Raynor and Tychus attacked Valerians Battlecruiser? Have you ever wondered how idiotic and badly thought out that scene is? First Jim and Tychus manages to get aboard (despite at least nine other Dominion Battlecruisers being in the area) and singlehandedly kill Valerians guards on a ship with at least with 500 marines around to defend... then at the end Jim mixes up Valerian with Arcturus (You'd think his face would have burnt into his memory forever, not to mention the hair color). AND after all this misery Valerian turns around, SMILES and says he has an offer...like dude what the hell?! You just let your men die sou you can have Raynor fight trough them unnecessarily while your BC doesn't have it's shields up. Argh...I hate it so much. So with little inconsistencies such as the aforementioned cutscene the campaign speaks for itself and this is only a minor mistake. Dark Voice is cliché, as a lot of people said before Burning Legion and Sargeras all over again. And the Tal'Darim fiasco...oh god. The Tal'Darim are a small tribe, The Forged, on Aiur, serving under Ulrezaj for God sake. They have nothing to do with other worlds and the Xel'Naga, at least not in this high numbers. Zeratul is a weakling, and Tassadar is alive...don't resurrect someone who made a huge impact with his sacrifice in the story it may sound stupid but it takes away drama and credibility. It's Muradin again from WoW. And don't even get me started on Tychus. He is a good new character at least he has a huge dilemma, but the way it is presented to the player is just wrong. Okay...I finished my ranting, but it bugs me so much. The thing is the books like I, Mengsk and the Liberty's Crusade, Queen of Blades, Speed of darkness were all good, and added to the SC universe. Then came the Dark Templar saga which just starts somwhere and there is no real conclusion to the story through three books. The book Nova was yet again cool, and it let you peak into the life of someone how she became entitled to become a ghost. So why they couldn' keep up the tendecy of the books? I don't know. My suggestion aside from writing the dialogues better, and more convincing, the developers should pay attention to the characters motives and personalities. And there is another key that in most games nowadays is missing or it is not considered paramount. This "simple" thing is immersion which the Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty campaign lacks completely. Not the game, just the campaign. The story can't make you believe that you're in there, can't make you care for the characters. Things like when Kerrigan got left behind just don't happen anymore and don't leave you struck and feeling sorry or bad. They have to make you belive in the univers to make it credible and awesome. Sorry for the long post. This is just my opinion. |

The game is GREAT but the story sucks...
I mean comon how can a single battlecruiser crew take out several heavily guarded protoss bases. How comes it that this single crew keeps killing billions of zerg but with minimal casualties. How comes it Kerrigan wich tricked her enemies to do the job for her and then betray them. How comes it that this Kerrigan that is the most mighty character in the korpula sector (except for hybrids) not even 1 single time defeats us. How comes it that we can just walk into the capital world of the dominion while there weapon technology is way above us.. and come out alive??? I mean seriously how can this be ???? |
hehe. it wasnt obvious that they are awefull game developers at this point?. wc3 was the best thing blizzard ever produced storywise, + you all are little bit too delusional about broodwar being so epic and awesome |
No, it isn't. But some things are stupid mistakes that make the writers seem either lazy or just retarded. The best example is the Dark Voice's "I love it when a plan comes together!" line. What kind of retarded clusterf*ck of an idiot can think that line makes sense in one of the story's only tense moments?! You would have to be either really stupid or reallllly high. Second example? Retconing EVERYTHING. Who was Fenix? No one. Why was Tassadar killed? No no, he was just sleeping... I honestly have no idea why they did that and solving things differently wouldn't have taken much effort, just thought. |
