Topic This place is so... dead

I know that you get replies when you post, and that there are some discussions going. But...

This is not how a forum is supposed to look like. It's not swarmed with new topics. I can't see life here.

I have always imagined SC to be a phenomena. Something big, popular. It was, it is! But where exactly is the fan base? In-game chat is 60 people - 50 looking for team and 10 in zerg channel. What?! It's a game that sold 4.5 million copies by last year already. It's a game which is meant to be played in multiplayer - this suggests a some or less stable user base. There surely has to be 500,000 playing regularly AT THE VERY LEAST... I rarely meet same people in multiplayer. So where are the people? Does Blizzard really disencourage players from communicating in a way I haven't noticed? Did they just really fail at in-game player communication? What's wrong? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Everyone who is looking for serious discussion is on other forums such as Team Liquid forum. I blame this situation on Blizzard's forum staff. If you read the rules, they seem to be OK, but the forum moderators do not enforce these rules.

For comparison if you look at random thread at Team Liquid forum, users are warned or banned for things that go unpunished here. I also like that all other users see the warning/ban on the post that caused the user to get punished (you can see "user was warned for this post" or "user was temp banned for this post" on the post itself). This has a positive effect on other users to see what they should not do. Also, temp banning causes the trolls to die out eventually, because what trolls can't stand is when they can't post.

Why is Blizzard keeping the current status of these forums? I think they are afraid to enforce the rules on their paying customers. So, it's their own fault.

Also, let's do a comparison: take 3 random very long threads on these forums and on Team Liquid forums. What are their topics?

Here: Whining, QQ, non-constructive balance discussion...
Team Liquid forums: tournaments, constructive balance discussions, casting...

No wonder this place is so dead.

It's dead because any player who actually has in depth knowledge/is serious about getting good knows that most of the user base of this forum are either trolls or whiny little brats who don't know how to play the game, and come whining about "OP" strategies and units without having any idea what they're talking about.

It's not dead it's ignored or unsatisfying because playing the game and being just a retarded consumer works best.

Look...
I would say that half or more of the people who bought it play it single player and for the story and cinematics. I think I know part of the reason for this.

The first thing you experience when playing mp in SC2 is that noone talks. At first there is a customary "glhf" followed by a "gg" when someone wipes, which is communication on such a low level it makes cavemen look deep and spiritual. And this is the most conversation you can realistically hope for in a standard 1v1.
Many times you don`t even get this much though, and the entire match takes place in silence, or with random incomprehensible statements of one kind or another.
When the dregs who are unable to formulate a sentence manage to drag the rest of the community down to their level to the extent they have in SC2 then you end up with this: 2 or more random people at best communicating with meaningless abbreviations and related online dribble.

Secondly though anyone who tries to play mp with little experience of rts will be treated to some form of a single unit rush or another over and over again either by lings, banshees, zealots or whatever. When they have tried 5-10 games of this they log off and do something fun instead. Sure, they should scout it, but rushing is so prevalent in lower level games that it kills the fun for anybody not interested in mindlessly barging in with the first units they manage to scramble, or it forces them to do the same just to avoid losing all the time, which is also boring and mindless and therefore makes a lot ofpeople stop playing mp very quickly.

Maybe I`m missing something, but this isn`t my idea of fun either. And it`s probably not for a majority of people who buy Blizzard games for solo play and want to avoid all the annoying baloney that goes along with online gaming.

Yes and by the way you are allowed to have opinions without being good at SC2 multiplayer. Just thought you should know....

This place is dead because there is no impetus for interesting or involving discussion, whiel most of the skilled players move themselves over to other forums.

And in particular this segment of the forum, where we dicuss story and lore. Its shallow and its weak, we all got that so far. There is nothing else to discuss about it until Hots comes out.

There was a lot of discussion when the game first came out... now most players have already completed the campaign, so there's not much to discuss. So, once HotS is out, expect this section of the forums to be up and burning again.

i really think that its becouse sc2 isnt very player friendly.
few people play it as a casual game and its extremely elitist. trying to just play it for fun which you can in most games is so hard becouse of all the blockers they put in the game to make even simple stuff take up a ton of work (basic stuff like chrono boost, larva inject, creep spread, ai setups on units ingame, lack of good overview abilities aka zooming out etc etc.), this makes the game community extremely elitist and hardcore fan based when it comes to actually people playing the game and people just watching it.

sc2 is not really a game, it's made purely as a "sport", they have done their best to make even small things take up tons of energi.

basicly i think thats why there isnt many people left on the actual forum since the elitist is else where and the people just watching sc2 instead of playing it ain't using time on the forum.

i would have loved sc2 to be a actual game instead of focused only on being a esport... would love to see some decend features in it such as "ai setup ingame, ability to zoom out to a decend overview, auto creep spread, larva inject, chronoboost etc. all these things which would be a 100% garenteed features in any GAME which focused on giving the player the most fun experience and the feeling they are playing a game and not training for a second job.
would be awesome to have this, just set in the ability to remove these options if you would like to keep it "harder" for the esport itself.

If you're referring to the story forum in particular is probably because the story in wol is weak
if you're reffering in general is probably because most higher league players are very rude and offensive with lower players if they try to talk about the game.

This a hundred times. Warcraft (the RTS) is much more engaging lore-wise. And there is plenty of scope for non e-sports gaming. I guess SCII simply had to fill that niche, but at the expense of the more inclusive element.

This section of forum was active. In 2010.
But now everyone, who cared about (bad) story of WoL have already said their opinion and so there is nothing else left to discuss.
