StarCraft: Genocide (obscure sc1 expansion)
|
Completed mission 5, I never had so many devourers in my life :))) 40+ I didn't find it hard, because once again defilers = mass ownage and I used defilers + hydra for defense, and I was massing devourers for the fleet.
Anyway the reason for this post is this: The new zerg unit is very badly designed it looks like alpha version... |

Where can I get the soundtrack (music) ? Is it original ? because in the end cinematic a Wraith pilot listens to an electronic mix of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.
Tried the MPQ editor and extracted the three new songs which were stitched next to those from Brood War (I think). But I'm wondering if there are more somewhere. |
|
Yes new units arent so innovative. Their attacks copied from an other starcraft unit or building. They are only to make a little variety for the game.
And yes, scantolisk is a little bit badly designed. But that was around 2001. Fan work... it is acceptable, but its portrait like a little bit earthworm jim :) |

The problem is that I only find the short editable one on Google whenever I type Huncraft.
Now about the Campaign: |SPOILERS ON| Levels Most of the levels are hard and good. They're not impossible to play. I mostly enjoyed the installation missions. Story I never understood what was and happened with that Hudson Rheims character. So basically it's called Genocide because it's about the extermination of the Zerg race or at least that's what I understood. -Zerg All of the StarCraft Brood War heroes (left alive) die in this campaign. Kerrigan wants to finish the job the Zerg were programmed to do, eliminate all Protoss contrary to the Overmind's view of her. The story starts with the Zerg eliminating massive forces of the UED on Char contrary to the low or no number of UED forces left after Brood War. The UED needed generators to power up their things on Char. Kerrigan and her Cerebrate Gzorn (the last one or at least the only one we see talking) devised a plan to shut the generators off by infiltrating an underground base and taking some data discs. After they eliminated the UED with the help of Arcturus Mengsk she killed him after he willingly came to her (did she twist his mind ? or did he simply give in ?). High Templar Fenidus then tricked Gzorn on Aiur telling him he is a traitor that hates the Conclave and stole the crystal though Fenidus' forces attacked other Protoss forces. Protectors of the Gate, the Darkeners, what's up with them besides being old Protoss Archons held in Statis Cells ? They killed Gzorn while you the commander did not help him being under Kerrigan's influence. She then took some troops and destroyed the Ancient ones (I'm guessing she wanted to have all Cerebrates killed but the Darkeners weren't Nerazim right ? so no reincarnation because the Overmind was dead). After, Sarah got to Shakuras through a portal and Zeratul told her that now he feels compassion for her (wait what ?). Anyways on Shakuras Kerrigan went to destroy the Xel'Naga temple which was teleported by the Protoss elsewhere on Shakuras (interesting right?). Then she found it from where it wasn't teleported ever again from or anywhere on Shakuras. Here she found a true Protoss traitor Mojo who helped her against the other Protoss. The temple was destroyed and Zeratul appeared only to be murdered by Duran who after that killed Kerrigan too (I'm guessing he was planing it; he let Kerrigan dispose of most Protoss. Mojo was nowhere to be found. -Protoss You start with some Protoss troops and have to liberate New Antioch on Shakuras. You find Fenidus and Mojo in the city and head towards a portal. Then with Artanis and Fenidus you have to wait for reinforcements while you defend your base. Mojo is nowhere to be found (is Fenidus a traitor too ? because Artanis believes he was not after Fenidus died defending New Antioch or did he ?). Then they head to Korhal IV to free Jim Raynor from Mengsk's prison (Mengsk was already dead now; why didn't he kill Raynor; did he wanted him to suffer ?). Raynor and Artanis plan to steal some Confederate Psi Disrupters on Korhal IV in order to create a vast wave to destroy the Zerg. This is the mission where James gets caught by the Zerg. They return to Shakuras where Mojo has amassed a large army to fight against them (Mojo wants to take control over Shakuras ?). After you defeat his army some Zerg Guardians come and kill him (so he was under Duran's influence). Artanis finds out about some Chrysalises on Tarsonis. He gets there with Protoss troops and destroys them before they hatched. Raynor was nowhere there. Raynor returns and feels a little awkward. Duran later told him he was infested but Jim's will kept his mind together and the infestation never got the best of him. Quickly he and Artanis went to Shakuras to plant the Psi Disrupers and using a Xel'Naga Shrine they amplified the Psi effect. -Terran Raynor went to Raxid (a new planet in the SC universe I guess) to eliminate all Zerg there and search for Duran. After he and his men with the help of Admiral Tom Kazansky (I didn't understand his relation to Terra/Earth) infiltrated a Tech Center on a Dominion space platform (if the Dominion was so full of troops why did Mengsk simply give up ?) near Korhal IV to steal spacecraft schematics then they went on the planet to use some Special Mechanics to infiltrate a Command Center and have the whole Phantom schematics. Then they needed resources in order to build those and more troops so they went to Raxid on a place where it was flourishing with the material they needed. By this time though Raynor already mutated but was very lucid. There they had to raze some more Zerg. Meanwhile Kazansky's base on Raxid has been infested by Zerg and Raynor went to search for him there but he is nowhere to be found. A call from Artanis brings Raynor to Shakuras where they wanted to use a big Psi Disrupter on the Zerg. The device was destroyed by Guardians and the heroes fled to Tarsonis to put an end to Duran's reign. There they killed Kazansky who was quickly infested and under Duran's control. There was also a Cerebrate with Duran whom was also eradicated. Duran died at the hands of Infected Raynor whom did a last act of heroism and killed himself too while he was at it. The story ends with the total annihilation of the Zerg, a thing possible because of the last remainders of the Terran and Protoss races. Artanis was the only hero to survive. |SPOILERS OFF| Overall, interesting. |

So this one is only a reference:
http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/HunCraft/wikipedia And this will be the final article: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/HunCraft ...on starcraft wiki. You can edit the second one. And thanks for your summary, you may use it in the article if you want. |
|
So your summary can be copy pasted here:
http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/HunCraft If you allow. They want only a short article about huncraft. BUT if somebody make a whole wiki for huncraft, they link it to the main page of starcraft wiki. Is somebody up to do that? |
|
I can try but I never made a whole new wiki page. I've only been editing from time to time.
But I can paste it here if you want: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HunCraft. By the way you can do a HunCraft article for Magyar wikipedia if you want. Of course in Hungarian. |
|
There are some avaliable information in Hungarian about the game. And Hungarians can understand the game. I did the walktrough in English to give the possibility some people to understand the story.
I think, if Huncraft Interactive made an English version (as they planned) this game would have been more popular than Retribution or Insurrection and would have been authorized. Maybe someone should do some videos about it to youtube with English commentary. It could be a walktrough or just a skirmish game using new units. Those videos could be popular along the time... as I found on google (searching "huncraft genocide") there were many demands to translate huncraft. That was in the past, but maybe people havent forget it :) |
Great. Hopefully he'll do it all. You should put the web link on the HunCraft wiki as well. |
|
I think he will finish it. But he does it in Hungarian and in English also. It's difficult to translate the point of every briefing. If you like it, maybe you can write him a thanks on youtube.
I dont know about HunCraft wiki. I was suggested by StarCraft wiki users to create it, but I havent done it yet. StarCraft wiki is ok, StarCraft is a big game with a lot of stuff. But HunCraft is only an expansion set. However, maybe the most detailed one. And the other problem: in 2001, people could accept this game as a good game, because it was hard to find a detailed unofficial expansion set for StarCraft. But it was only advertised by campaigncreations before it was released. So it didnt become popular. And now there is StarCraft 2 and a very high expectation level from the users. There was several request to do translations about HunCraft, but that was in the past. People in present are different, they couldnt accept this game as a good game. Just look at this topic: http://www.campaigncreations.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=850 And why HunCraft didnt become popular? Because it is in Hungarian and because it wasnt advertised in the times when it was done. Only two Hungarian gamer newspaper wrote about it. The developers didnt wanted to advertise it on English pages. First they planned an English version, but as they said here http://www.huncraft.hu/?q=igykeszult they had many irresponsible contacts and they may considered not to make the English version because of this. I made the moddb page with the text walktrough (with poor English :), and Yashock will make the youtube videos. Maybe some good starcraft1 fans will know about it, but it is not the same if it would have happened 5-10 years ago. And it has a facebook page also with the developers: http://facebook.com/huncraftgenocide |
If it was in English it would've been better because those who understood the dialogues could feel the mood. I played it and liked it but the mission briefings didn't feel that good when I didn't understood most things that were said there. I read the English story you provided to understand what was going on. That didn't feel as good as experiencing the game with full understanding. So the whole deal is that the expansion should be in a language known to most. |

Of course, but at the beginning the developers didnt expected such a big project, just a little campaign. And the Hungarian language was such an easter egg. At that times it was a big deal if a game was translated into Hungarian.
I've read on the old forums that the developers was planning an English version. Anyway, Yashock has the idea to make a better campaign with the same new units for StarCraft 2. |
