Topic Spewing the creep allover

I haven't seen it in pro games yet, that Zerg player would train air transportation and carry queens around the map. If i had the APM i'd do it, because its relatively cheap (you might train that for baneling rain anyway). One could put a creep tumor in every resource expansion, and spread it further. Most Terrans are stupid enough to not have that 1 Raven (even in pro games), so they are forced to scan to expand. Protoss might have observers, but even if you kill the tumor, it would take time for the creep to vaporize. An added bonus that you don't need to have overlords or lings around the map in scouting purpose, if the tumors will reveal when and where enemy might want to expand.

TLO used to do that on his stream.

its relatively cheap

This is the main problem. If you have researched the tech anyway then fine, but 300/300 is absolutely not 'relatively cheap'.

Besides, if you want to force scans when they expand you can just use burrowed lings.

Tumours everywhere!

300/300 resources in a pro game, can mean the difference between winning and loosing.

Also spreading creep the way it works atm, isnt fun or rewarding, watch how almost every pro zerg stops doing it. its not fun. waste atm and time spreading something for 15min, that a few mindless scans and amove units clean up in 1min.

Alsbolutely trash.

Hopefully they rework it or remove it in Heart of the swarm, and just give zerg units the right speed from the getgo like Starcraft 1.

It's an expensive and APM-intensive technique wit the net effect of simply dropping the creep at the expo plus borrowing a ling.

I'd rather spend my already limited APM on other, more useful stuff, like keeping up with my injects, scouting etc.

Yeah APM is limited. However imagine if you could place tumors in large circle all around mineral field. Time it takes to retract off would be count in minutes. 1 scan may not be enough to reveal all of them. But also i don't recommend putting a tumor at center, because you can't easily expand there yourself either then. Ok if it's too far to expand yourself anyway.

Didn't mention in first post, the obvious requirement that overlord needs to poop down there first for the first tumor. But that's like instant anyway, if it's the transporting overlord.

I wonder if you left an overlord spewing creep at an expansion, with 1 creep tumor in the middle. When opponent goes to expand there they will shoot down the overlord, but how long before they realise the creep isn't receeding? lol

Sounds like Blizzard is listening :) Nydus worm that spews 2 screens of creep, freaking awesome.

IMprove it or remove it, sounds like they are gonna improve, i like.

Creep recedes in 30 seconds regardless of whether you have twenty tumors or just one.

Source? Heard someone mention something about the nydus but never found the article or whatever.

Nope. I calculated creep took at minimum 2 and half ingame minutes to retract enough to build a base. This was a optimal case, took bit longer if i didn't kill all tumors, those that were not in sight range of mineral fields.

edit: I mean, it's not the amount of creeps that matter, but their coverage. It's pointless to put tumors right next to each other.

In addition, if the ground is flat'ish and there are tumors around the killed one, it will not retract at all. Even if the other tumors are further away than what they have sight range. Meaning that creep always retracts from the borders, never from center.

I would like to have an upgrade for overlords that allows them to drop creep tumors. That would be awesome. But of course quite OP.

Btw: A cheaper way than researching ovi transport is to just create a creep highway (with ovi speed) and then just run your 1-2 creep queens along the highway and drop tumors. From this you can start to move the creep in all possible directions. Tons of APM needed though.

Recipe for mid-late game creep highway:

- select a bunch of OLs
- drop creep
- move them to the end of future highway
- remove one OL by shift-clicking
- change waypoint to one a little bit closer
- remove one OL by shift-clicking
- repeat until no OLs left or highway done

Works wonderfully, APM requirements relatively low, no tumors needed. Long-term safety of highway OLs not guaranteed, of course.
