Matchmaking Changes Have Been Reverted

That's all.

Shame, undesired results at top and bottom. Meaning the best players got games far too easy to win, and the bottom of bronze got games they had no chance at winning.

However they do state that they would try further tweaks in the future, so sounds like they just need to lower the disparity in match-making for the lowest and highest MMRs by creating some sort of threshold.

good decision by blizzard not hesitating to revert changes when they clearly didn't work as intended, is this in effect on the EU server already?

It doesn't feel like it been reverted on EU, I've been playing the most pointless team games possible, gold, silvers plats, none of these people should be playing against me.

Nice call.

no more bronze stomping t.t

I think it's an experiment and the revert didn't really happen.

I'm glad they did it, however it is a bit scary how they implement changes without really considering all (relatively obvious) weaknesses and why they actually fix things that aren't broken to start with while refusing to improve other aspects of multiplayer experience and tournament disconnect problems.

We previously announced that we intended to “loosen” the range of opponents chosen in matchmaking, causing the game to occasionally match opponents that were a bit more disparate from one another in skill than before. This change was carried out, we have carefully evaluated the results we’re seeing, and we have decided to roll back the change for now.

What we saw with this experiment were undesirable consequences for players at the far ends of the range of skill, and we have now returned to the previous matchmaker tuning -- settings that were in use for a long time before this trial. Nonetheless, we may make further adjustments to the matchmaker in the future.

Thank you very much for your participation and feedback on this!

This is indeed correct.

We are indeed looking into further tweaks in the future, however it is still a little too soon to say what kind of tweaks will be done :-)

Maybe you should tweak custom games and leave the ladder as is.

This is sad. I was looking forward to playing better players and learn how to deal with their tricks.

Why can we never just have it so you opt in :/.

All that seems to happen at the moment is a bunch of higher level players play crap for the ranking so they can troll bronze, silver and sometimes gold league players for easy wins.

So this new system was great I'm a bit sad that it got removed so quickly.

But is this in effect in the EU ladder already? The news only refer to US ladder? Or not?

Though I'm not a fan of the intentional off-topic nudging, I'll follow up by saying that Patch 1.5 will feature the revamped custom game system under "Arcade". You can find some information here:

Hi im a platinum Terran yesterday i played lots of games played vs gold, platinum, diamond lost vs 1 gold and after that game even played vs diamonds how is this possible if the ladder is back to normal why do i play vs diamonds my mmr is not diamond lvl, but i won 1 game vs a diamond zerg it was cool :)

@Scientist Probably because your MMR is that of low/mid diamond. It generally means that, should you keep this run going, you'll most probably be promoted diamond come next season. Happened to me in Bronze. I started getting paired with Silvers. Even though I lost this season's placement match, I still got promoted. Not too happy about it though, since my play isn't up to par with the Silver league I feel.

Damn but, It seems to me too... Currently I´m always arond top20-30 on ladder in Bronze and I´m constantly keep getting Favored Opponents one after another and they are all on the top 5 (not 8 - FIVE) at their ladders... or even Silver... I mean WTF ?
