Help w/ zerg build
|
Hi, I have been working on a new zerg unit composition and build that I feel works pretty efficiently. I am only in high silver and I win alot of games using this and would like a few tips on how to make it better. It is basically;
I start off by going speed ling, for harass and map control, then I get a macro hatch and a 3rd hatch and go into ling/hydra. This stops my opponent from annoying my mass lings w/ air units or units on high ground. I keep getting the ground armor and melee attacks upgrades and only get missile attacks upg when the others are maxed. Next I get another macro and a 4th base and move up into ling/Hydra/Ultra, dumping all my gas into 1 ultra for 2 hydra and the remaining minerals into lings. If I haven't won by this stage, I usually will do w/ this army. What I would like to know really is this. What tme should I start getting gas? Is it worthwhile getting burrow so that in the early stages my lings can more easily ambush attacking enemies? any other tips? |

doesnt seem that good a build to me really as far as ZvZ goes, Hydras are far too slow, feels like standard roach/infestor will crush you and even muta will prevent you expanding/moving out quite well, i could definately be wrong :)

well sometimes for zvz I do find myself skipping the hydra stage for a short while, either replacing them w/ roaches or just going mass ling to ultra, and later getting the hydra support if need be. This is usually if the enemy goes roach or baneling, but if they go bling then they usually go into muta after, therefore my hydras easily deal w/ any muta play.. but yes a roach/infestor play did slaughter me the other day :/ but that has been one of my very few losses

First off, you can never safely ling only at start in ZvZ, unless your micro is godlike. You kinda need to add a step in there where you utilize banelings in defense if you see them doing some sort of heavy ling/bling aggression. Some games you can just forget the baneling nest, but you need to keep that in your mind when scouting baneling nest. Also never expect mutas if someone has banelings. Ling/baneling is really standard opening that can easily transition to roach/infestor, or muta, or whatever. Going hydra/ling while expanding to third feels kinda flimsy setup, since you can see very heavy roach aggression with infestor support bit after. I however have no clue how would ling/hydra work against roach only, but against roach/infestor it's simply a dead composition. Lings get murdered with fungals, and hydras don't stand a chance against roach army. Also it's close to impossible to get offensive with hydras, as they're so darn slow off the creep, and before 15 minutes you can't have whole map covered. So you'd need nydus. Maybe rather try ling/infestor? That'll at least provide you with options for infestor harass, and denying of third base with large number of lings. Add a roach warren as back up to answer to heavy roach play. |
Yes, he had about 5 collossi and more bases then me, but I stopped hydra production and went for all out ling, and when he attacked i killed all his colossi just in time for my ultra cavern to complete, then using ultra ling i crushed his remaining collosi, immortal and stalker army.. Well usually if I see them going banelings I do a brief roach interjections into my army, to counter them until he gives up w/ them. Or I try to make him detonate his blings on 1 ling,, But overall I do think im agreeing w. you guys :/ I think asides from zvp I will replace hydra w/ roach and only get the den if they go air. Its just that I wanted to find a way to make hydras work, since I think theyr really good, they just need more hp/armor :/ |
