StarCraft® II

Hi guys,

I recently bought a new GTX 680 for my system (I upgraded from a HD5850). The GTX 680 is great, I run skyrim and crysis and dia III capped on 60 fps. The issue is with starcraft 2, during 1v1 games I start out at 120-200 fps depending on the map, but once the game progresses and I reach the mid-high pop fights the fps will drop to 20-40. this sure is playable but I'm wondering if this is normal ?

I get a score of 9700 in 3dmark11 on the performance settings so I assume my card isn't malfunctioning, also considering I run other games fine.

ps. I did use drivesweeper to ensure all the ati drivers were removed, I did update to the latest nvidia drivers but I also had this 'issue' before them.

EDIT: I run the game on a 24" monitor, 1920x1080 resolution and everything game setting is maxed apart from AA. The weird thing is, when I booted up sc2 for the first time after installing the card, it recommended low-mid graphical setting..

I have an nVidia GeForce GTX 560 and an Intel Core i5-3550 CPU... always runs at 50 + FPS in 1v1, 2v2... however in 3v3 and 4v4 in maxed battles it can drop to as low as 25 when there are 1k + units on screen... so yes its normal.

BTW... SC II is CPU intensive not GPU... you can run the game maxed with a AMD Radeon HD 3870 or nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX and an Intel Core Duo @ 2.4 Ghz + no problem at all.

I think he confounds the GPU (graphical processing unit) with the video card itself.
Sc2 requires quite a lot of graphical power, but not graphical memory. Video cards with low-end GPU but high memory (which seem to be common nowadays) are highly unlikely to run this game properly, what 75% of the "low fps on ultra computer" threads in this forum seem to be all about.

Now you're confusing "recommended" and the ability to play everything maxed out on 1080p.
