TvZ openings!
|
I'm very new to Terran, and zerg can give me a bit of a pickle. The only 2 openings that seem to work for me are 14CC(On larger maps with a ramp leading to the expo, such as entombed valley) into 3 rax to be safe, or 2 rax push with 4 marines and 2 scvs as his expo completes. This works best obviously on smaller 2 player maps such as Ohana, and it has to do damage, or you are behind.
Most of the pros I see like to go 1 rax expo, but I never seem to get it to work. The zerg can take a safe fast third, drone up like a boss and destroy you with lingbling. I try to push out at particular times, such as +1/+1 or stim, but the zerg has a better economy! Any advice regarding timings or openings you would like to share? :D cheers |

the only viable opening vs zerg nowadays seem to be the 3OC. But in TvZ you start the game behind, so you have to dropharrass as much as possible and try to macro better than him to have a chance lategame.
Z have atm a ~70% winrate over T in tourrnaments lately, so brace yourself |

TvZ is worse than TvP. You're in for a world of pain vs Zergs, but at plat level there is still enough room to outplay him to win. Note, he doesn't need to outplay you by much to win, mostly they just need to sit tight and expand in plat.

Seems like most zergs won't care anymore what terran does and they just tech up for hive while taking 3 expos. To answer that Terrans go 3xOC and fast upgrades. If he has roaches, banes have more tanks. If he goes broods, use mobility and drops. Make marines and replace tanks with thors and viking. Ultras are dealt with tanks and adding marauders to your army. For sure most of the time you find infestors and lings around. Keep healthy number of medvacs but imo you don't need not even close so many as in TvP.
Opening to Marines and tanks after first expo is generally good because with that you can defend against banes, roach and some zergling roamers(have tactical bunker near your ramp and natural). Try avoid ghosts since those are expensive and take too much time. Wall with depos much as possible up to your third. Then it's just countering and trying avoid fungal while you want have game under your way. |

If you want to play a little bit more aggressive i would recomend old fashion 1-1-1 with cloaked banshee. Applies early game pressure and a reactor hellion is also good for clearing out creep(if banshee's have taken out queens) or going straight for workers. Good way to transition into mech or marine/tank or whatever you like.

Does that work vs Zerg? Last time I tried ling/bling killed all my marines/tanks .. |
I always though 1-1-1 was a weak opener vs Zerg. With the new Queens, i think it's even weaker now. Do you have any replay of that working against a good Zerg? |

Try 1-rax expand into factory for tanks+siege and 3rd orbital. Then do a few tanks, thors + helions to take 3rd and double armory for mech upgrades. You will max out around the time you have 2-2 upgrades, just go and kill him. Make sure you don't lose your helions to fungal growth :)
That build helps a lot, because you don't have to split bio against banelings and you can macro safely before real fights start. Also with 3 orbitals you won't be behind on the economy. |
