ZvZ - spores a must?
|
Is it a good idea to just get like 2-3 spores in the mineral lines regardless of whether I've spotted a spire or not, or is it too much of a money loss? Also, what timings should I look at if I want to get them up in a good time to be able to defend from 5-6 mutas harassment?
Most of my ZvZs are 2 base affairs (with lots of 3rd denying on both sides) and in almost every one the opponent gets a spire. Sometimes I fail to scout it and get killed by mutas, so I was thinking of making it easier on myself and just incorporating 2-3 spores in mineral lines into my regular ZvZ play. |

If they've gone for fast 4 gases, you can assume they're bad or going spire. If you're good, you'll have a ton of drones, a ton of units, and you can make spores reactively assuming you can do some little counter attacks.
Having your forces on his side of the map for an allinish counter move is really useful a lot of the time. |

Of course, spores are a must as soon as you see spire. My reason for this is because it decreases the amount of damage the mutas can do. Try to scout early gases and/or lair. If you see this, try to tech up to infestors. This will pretty much destroy mutas and you can do alot of harassment with burrowed infestors. It's very tough and I hate muta play in ZvZ, but it can be done. You can also do a roach time attack that will kill him if he's teching to early mutas.

Eh, not really the answer on your question but on low-medium level of play there are 2 viable builds in zvz, either a ling push (speedling, baneling maybe, or lings with a spine building in your base) or a roach push. If you focus army early enough, your opponent loses if he has a 2nd.

No, this is not good idea.
But you can always make early 4 queens. They are great at fighting mutas (especially with armor upgrade), just remember to use transfuse to heal each other and you are fine. They are good at fighting lings or healing spines or healing roaches too. |
