Race Choice: Terran v Protoss

I recently decided to get back into SC2...I am currently a gold league player but I've realised I'm not going to improve enough without dedicating myself to a certain race. The problem I have, and have had in the past is choosing between Protoss and Terran..I get the basic idea behind each faction unit wise and mechanics wise I just can't pick the right one for me. Zerg is out of the question, I hate the play style, the look and the feel, but I love playing against them.
I feel at the top of my game I'm equal with both T and P, and I enjoy the equally. I was hoping some knowledgeable players would help me chose the race that's right for me. My strongest match ups are probably TvZ and PvT. My weakest are PVP and TVT Terran - I love the aesthetics and generally play human factions and human races on all games because I can relate more to them. I love the idea of big mech, human controlled armies but I feel the mech side is kinda weak with the exception of playing against Zerg. I don't like the whole massing marines and marauders, I find the units quite boring and too squishy. Protoss - I love the warp gates, but I always mess up my economy with them and they feel really un-natural when coming from other RTS's, i'm used to a build timer. When I play against them they seem ridiculously powerful but when I use them they feel a bit 'meh'. While air power is cool I don't enjoy the cost of play style of their air units. I enjoy their gateway units however, especially the sentry and high Templar. I find my self generally more frustrated with myself when playing as Protoss yet they seem far, far more forgiving. Versatility sounds cool with Terran but that means a lot more learning and a lot more thinking. I just like powerful, individual units over massing weaker ones. I find myself weak at self analysis and multi-tasking, but I'm improving that. As a MOBA, RPG and RTS player I tend to be good at micro, and really bad a macro. My APM is about average but higher as Terran - because they feel frantic. While I normally lean towards Terran, I always feel vunerable, weak and easy to kill. Playing as Protoss even when I'm losing I feel a sense of strength. Seeing as i've been asked this when choosing a race in the past: Me - Cynical, Colour-Black, Straight Edge, Extremely defensive OR extremely aggressive, bad at scouting, fast reactions, bad multi-tasking, I like to turtle for late game or finish very quickly - I do not value the 'mid game', suck at harass, prefer fewer bases to compensate for my bad macro and multi-tasing |

Well terran have the most cost effective units in the game and also the most options. So terran is a race with great potential if you are good with it. Otherwise play the race you find most fun. Random maybe? :)

Seeing as i've been asked this when choosing a race in the past: Ok, you should stay away from Terran. I am not saying this to be rude, but you don't fit as a Terran with those properties. As a Terran you need to have incredible micro, good multitasking and good at harassing. Protoss is the race for you :) |

Seeing as i've been asked this when choosing a race in the past: Doesn´t matter which race he chooses, he won´t get higher that gold if all this is true. |

That may be so but I'm working to improve that. By bad scouting I mean I usually forget to do it across the entire game and think more about my build then reactive builds [thus why I don't like zerg]. When I last played I was beating high plats/low diamonds but whatever you say.
I guess the problem I have is that Protoss suits me but I love the aesthetics and appeal of Terran ^^ |

Well if you're bad at multitasking and such like you said, you should play Protoss. They don't have any micro that's really worth mentioning either (blink stalker micro if I had to say something). If you're good at defending against drops and playing vs equally skilled T, you will probably win when it goes to lategame ^^

The cold hard truth sadly :( |

Play what you think is more fun. You mention certain advantages and disadvantages, but those simply don't matter.
Terran - I love the aesthetics and generally play human factions and human races on all games because I can relate more to them. I love the idea of big mech, human controlled armies... ...I don't like the whole massing marines and marauders, I find the units quite boring... This is what matters. but I feel the mech side is kinda weak with the exception of playing against Zerg... ...and too squishy. This doesn't.
So you enjoy the warp gates, but they feel a bit weird to you coming from other RTS. You like the air power and you enjoy using HT and sentries. This is what matters. Economy, cost, power - That doesn't. It doesn't make it fun or not fun. In the end you'll get better with the race you enjoy playing the most. Whether or not any race has any advantage doesn't matter at all - If you don't enjoy playing them you simply won't become as good later on. Try this: Play random for a while more. After a few weeks, probably less, i can guarantee you that in the back of your head you start wishing "oh, i hope i get [insert race here]!". I tried this myself aswell after i got frustrated with terran, but after a while i realized i kept wanting to play terran more than the other 2 races when i played random. This is a purely subjective thing. The most important thing is that you have fun, always remember that :) |

As has been said, play the race you have the most fun with.
If you choose a race that gets faster results but you don't have fun with, you'll eventually switch to the race you like better. Remember: This game will ultimately get VERY accurate balancing. So don't go a particular race because it's the strongest atm. That might not be the case tomorrow. Zerg is the strongest race right now, but that might very easily change tomorrow. |
Well spoken Sir. And nice to read such a statement from a Zerg Player. :-) |
I just like powerful, individual units over massing weaker ones. Man, you're definately a Brotoss :-) Come and enjoy the fun with us! Colossi, Immortals are yours truly, and blinking Stalkers and charging Zealots with Sentries. You'll be lovin' it! Even if you're bad at micro'ing, Sentries aren't really that hard. I've not had great success with air yet, though using Mothership while you can is great fun, and I'm not gonna be hating on Phoenixes or Void Rays either. :) |

Doesn't like multitasking
Like to sit in base and make army and move out for win Doesn't like massing marines and marauders Thinks mech is weak Not like to harass Not keen on learning and thinking Wants to turtle Wants big powerful units This is by definition a protoss player. Terran is a powerful race but only in the hands of a select few who multi-task like whirling dervishes and make multipronged harassment attacks with small forces of marines and marauders while maintaining their macro. |
lol it sounded good and then i clocked your profile xd |
Yeah I only play 4v4 random. Its annoying that it implies Im bronze 1v1 when I only had a few games of 1v1 2 years ago. But that's blizzard new profile system for you. |
