StarCraft® II

Why is LoL more popular than SC2?

I don't get it. LoL seems to have a lot more players and a lot more viewers.

Why?

People like to play more casual games than sc2.

MVP - StarCraft II
1. Free to play
2. Casual game
3. Easy to learn and not so much to focus on at the same time ^
4. Play with friends*

* = SC2 is not balanced in team games and makes it less fun. Often much cheese in team games.

Different game, some like RTS games some like single hero games etc. My little brother plays LoL, and it's really no better than DotA imo. Few heroes and the game just looks like a cartoon in an old newspaper.

- Low strain on your pc, playable on the worst of computers
- Free to play
- Easy to learn, understand and play

Easy to learn
free to play
play with friends
go half premade and troll your other teammates
not nearly as frustrating as sc2 can be

But the feelings when you succeed makes all the difference, and it's worth a little frustration, imo^^

1. SC2 costs money. LoL is free.

2. SC2 is a strategy game and is hard. LoL is a dota game and doesn't take as much skill.

3. SC2 is mainly about 1v1 ladder games which for a lot of people could be stressful. LoL is always team based 5v5 which is far more relaxing.

4. SC2 team ladder is a joke if you don't have partners because you get matched a lot against premades and get streamrolled easy due to the flawed team matchmaking system.

I rarely play ladder now due to point 4 and the current state of Terran which while might be balanced at the highest end (top Korean Terran players), is very hard to play with in comparison to other races (pressure to do damage, no death ball, hardest micro and macro, gimped T3 units and lategame, etc.). This is evident by the amount of Terran participants in GM leagues and in non-Korean tournaments.

I don't think you can compare these two games like this.

While LoL is more popular, I don't think the pro scenes are that far apart. If you look at earnings, SC players are still in the top. It is simply a fact that LoL is more easy to learn and also less stressful. Therefore more people play it, thus making it more popular.

No seriously it does.

Why would you even compare potato and, say, skyscrape? 0_o
It's very different games and excitement they are offering are very different too.

Why?

Free games do that when they're decently made.
It has more viewers because it has more players.
Also, it's not as complicated to understand the macro elements and tiny little differences between playstyles and builds from different players.
There's also a massive gap between the best starcraft players and the not so good players. So, when the best aren't playing, there's a lot less viewership, and they don't always play at the best of times for their viewers.

I have played LoL for a year after playing 5 years of dota...and I want to say that LoL is the worst game you wanna' play. It is inbalanced, you can easily make a pentakill ( 5 kills in a row ) with every hero ( even support can do this ) and btw graphics sux....but np DOTA 2 WILL BE FREE!!!! + it has shop with skins and you can make your personal skins..so think about it and it will be ladder oriented..yes I have played dota 2 beta and it is so much fun! Although russians fvck every game...is still exciting to stare at qop boobs XD. Sc2 requires skill, multitasking, with most of the LoL players do not have....lol is retarded.

I'm from Russian Federation myself and if my people broke your gaming experience, well, I'm sorry for that. I should also say that not all of us behave like that and I have many friends that playing good and treat other gamers with respect. Rudeness and bad manners have no nationality, IMO. It's just all over the Internet.
As for your 1 year LoL experience... how could you even play that game if it's so bad? There is many good games out there and you chose to torture yourself with game that you hate? Errm... that's very masochistic I'd say.
tl;dr
My point still stands. That's different games. League of Legends may be inbalanced (due to new champion each week, for instance), simple and visually rough but still it's may be fun to play and it have it's own style. Personally, I like to play it from time to time.

That's kinda like asking why people play CoD more than Dragon Age. They're two different genres.

It's like asking why people like melons more than chairs... XD

But regardless, i've been playing LoL since i swapped from Dota1 and now i'm back on Dota 2...when i come from SC2 and go to a LoL or Dota game it's like taking a break XD, i actually find it hard to just focus on me and not see what other people are doing at the same time. It's easier to play and learn and there's still a nice bit of strategy involved. It's well made for a free game, they have lot's of updates and new champions every other week, a nice item shop too and a few different maps and game modes. It just depends on what kind of game you feel like playing.

Hope that clears it up XD.

I've switched over from SC2 to LoL. Reason being that SC2 isn't the game exactly right for me (too stressful, and feel like im progressing way too slow).

In LoL I've learned the metagame and all game mechanics in course of 2-3 months, and in contrary to SC2, it is not "that" stressful, and I've progressed and improved my gameplay alot in short time. Even my IRL friends have moved from SC2 to LoL aswell, and we play together very often, more than we did in SC2.

But LoL has it's negative traits, which some SC2 has not:
-worst community ever; flaming teammates, trolling teammates, GG easy/noobs to mention a few.
-is free and can be accessed by everyone (like kids who can barely communicate)
-the game is not self-improving supportive (like how to point out your mistakes in a lost game and improve it later on. Many just choose to ignore their mistakes and say "noob team instead).

But the factors above are very small compared factors that make LoL popular (being free, less stressful, lesser skill requirement).

I feel like LoL is still growing, while SC2 is stagnating. But both are great games, and it all comes to personal preference.

LOl you have 4 other people to blame for your loss.

In Starcraft 2, its kinda hard to blame anyone but yourself.

That and lol is so easy, its faceroll game, controlling one hero no skill at all. Its uber casual like Nintendo Wii fitness or angry bird or some crap. Its a shame that is what games are coming too.

LoL team games are so boring, I dont know why its so popular, its like if every sc2 game goes to min 15 without anything happening in 90% of the time. high elo RT is decent though, alot more action and fun to watch.

It is boring to watch. Fun to play. I got over 1k lol games and never have watched tournament game or anything. It is like wow raiding nobody wants to really watch when somebody raids but it is fun when you are your self raiding.
