Topic Low FPS drop? Game Crashing? Read here.

Right, it's time I make a thread about this, search this way to much over the internet and just wanted to some up all the questions, answers, problems etc in one thread where people can read.

Note - I have not got a 100% fix.....yet! Just research at the moment.

So are you experiencing Lag, Fps drop, Game crashing to the error window? Everything being juttery before the crash? Maxing your processor usage? Over heating?
Well here is what I have read an found out, just trying to narrow down the fix.

My specs are -
12GB Ram
I5 Cpu
560TI GPU
2* 1TB HDD
1*128GB SSD

Firstly I'd like to note, *It is not a hardware fault*

Why? - Because a year or so ago, the game ran perfectly fine. Never encountered this problem before. I was running a 8800GTX GPU, ran nice and smoothly. I feel that the problem occrured after a SC2 Patch.
Other evidence to back up the Hardware theory is, over the time I upgraded to a 560TI GPU, Same problem occured.

I downloaded a program called CoreTemp. This monitors your CPU temp. Noticed that the temp was pretty high on SC2 - 55-65c*. So I added another Fan, Replaced the Heatsync along with the thermal paste. No luck there in fixing the issue.

I would like to add here, Ignore every comment you have read regards to dust build up, and people who have not experienced this issue, stating that clean your fans and it will fix it -.-

Seen so many responses like that to these types of threads and its very frustrating.

- Updating GPU drivers has had no effect. Once again seen a lot of replies of this as a answer. This has not worked.

- Lowering Graphics settings make's no difference what so ever.

- Sometimes I can play the game fine and not even get this issue, other times can happen every five minutes. Sometimes a Restart of the pc fixes this, other times it does not.

- There's been several reports that it's bad ram etc... This I dont believe. This problem I recieve seems to only happen on Blizzard games - D3 sometimes on WoW. I can Run BF3 On max settings, along with other titles, such as Arkham City etc.

On a positive note I fully updated my Windows 7 drivers last night (Has those turnt off for over a year) and My game ran smoothly, although the PC did endure a couple of restarts during the updates, which could of caused this. Will do some more testing tonight.

Secondly I have found this todfay, which I will be test...
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/07/28/blizzard-confirms-starcraft-ii-overheating-bug.aspx?PageIndex=1

All it is, is a script to cap the FPS.

So fingers crossed on that fix ^^

So just a overall sum up the issues I exp are...

-SC2 Lags in game and on main menu.
-Crashes to Desktop with the Error Report
-While SC2 is lagging, Processor usage is at 90-100%
-Coretemp shows CPU at 55-65C*
-Can happen anytime, Could play fine for a hour-5hours then reload the game and it has it's 'Hissy fit'

What I would like is for people experiencing this problem to respond to this thread with there 2cent and tell me the problems they've had or more importantly the fixes they have found. Not found one thread yet where someone has said they have fixed it :(

Would advise people who have not experienced this issue, or heard of it, to stay out of the thread as obviously the first things that come to your minds is, Your PC is over heating, clean the dust, up-date the drivers, lower your settings and Buy new hardware.

Anyway, will keep you guys up to date on my fix. Thanks for reading and hope this helps some of you.

Hello,

Please post the error reports that sc2 produce.

On the looks of it, it is either a hardware problem or windows, but can't be sure until i see the crash errors.

Will post it tonight if it re-appears.

After Fully updating my Windows (Except the S1 Update (Wouldnt install) ) and adding the FPS line in the script. After 36hours of Gameplay, My game Crashed Just once over the whole weekend.

Maybe I was just lucky, or Maybe something worked.
