Gas Timings

Hi guys,

As I have absolutly no idea of any gastimings of the races and what they mean to me when I scout them, I thought of making this thread and keep updating it in order to get some input for newer players like me.

So, to all the more experienced players, can you give us some examples for scouted gas timings and what it means?

Gas Timings for:

T: no gas scouteed @ ~6min = 2 rax / 1 rax FE
gas scouted @ ~6 min = Banshees/Hellions

P: no gas (at nat) scouted @ ~7 mins = Incoming push very soon
two gases scouted @ ~6 mins = Tech (Stargate, DT, Robo)

very much appreciated.

When scouting Terran for the first time, if they take no gas, expect either 2 rax or 1rax fast expand. If they have taken gas, expect hellions or banshees or something. sacrifice an overlord at 6 minutes.

When scouting Zerg, the gas doesnt really say alot.(for zvz) check for either hatch first, or pool timings. Whenever the gas is taken, expect metabolic boost to be researched first when the opponent hits 100 gas.(Use your brain to time it :D)

Roll out with your drone at 13 supply and walk it to the terran. See if he has any gas. If he hasn't, walk around a bit and retreat.

If he has, take is second gas and cancel and rebuild as often as you can. Thus you make banshees ridiculously late and make sure he's going hellion with that. Prepare accordingly.

Toss: scout gas at nat. no gas at 7:00 means serious ground force pressure very soon. Don't get upgrades, don't get lair. You need the gas for roaches ( or banes ) and upgrades won't finish in time anyway.
One gas at 6:00 can mean anything, two gasses mean serious tech (2 stargate, DTs, 2 robo)

make sure he's going hellion with that
That's wrong. You ensure he's doing a ground based army, yeah, but you don't ensure that he's doing hellions off of it.
He could just be doing a bio timing with stim and +2+2 and not even intending to get that second gas.
The only thing taking that gas will tell you is if the Terran is going to do early bunker pressure. If the marine is attacking the gas, he ain't gunna pressure you.

Terran, if you 10 drone scout you can spot everything just fine, CC first, 2rax, 1rax FE, fast gas etc.

Just send your 10th drone because then it's VERY rare that it gets blocked before it gets up the ramp. Send it to patrol at the gas.
Around 2:52-3:00 you should see OC building and leave the base just before his first marine pops and your drone survives.
If it's delayed, it's CC first, because he's building the OC's at the same time, and had to invest in CC before rax thus later OC.
If it's very early, it's probably 11 rax somewhere.
If there's gas, before rax, or at the same time, it's Hellions into Expand.
If there's 2x gas before 3min it's banshees.
If it's gas when rax finishes, (you can judge from the timing, or see how far the rax is as you leave the base compared to when you saw the gas go down), it's expand before factory into hellion/banshee/fast 3rd OC.

My protoss gas timings aren't as in depth though as they're midgame and thus harder to judge than Terran's (because there are so many things that can kill your overlords before they see anything.)

But generally,
No gas at natural after 7minutes = gateway all-in
Send in overlord to see if it's a 1 gas 7gate all-in, or 4-6 gate pressure into something else.
That way you can judge wether you need speedlings or not. (as a 7gate 1gas all-in usually just make 7 stalkers then PURE zealots you need roaches only, really.) If he doesn't have +1 attack, lings are fine too.

Gas before 7min is usually tech, the later gas, the more likely 4gate pressure -> immortal sentry expand/all-in is. Or possible blink stalkers all-ins.

ZvZ I only know that 3gas = roach based build, baneling all-ins, or ling infestor.
2gas = roach ling or baneling timing.
*EARLY* 4gas = usually mutas.
Bit later 4gas = usually ling infestor.

I also know that if you want to go muta and not die to opponents possible mutas, take your gas LATEST at 7minutes, or the second you see he takes his gas.
