I started playing about a month ago and played as zerg for the first few weeks of the season but was fairly bad with them. Since then I have switched to terran and am now doing much better (77% win rate 1v1 from my match history). I have seen that blizzard has stated that if you get 1200 points in a season in bronze you have a good chance of being promoted but at the moment I only have about 750 and may not have time to play after next week until after the league lock so I don't think I will make up that number in time.
I was just wondering if there is still a chance of promotion, since I don't feel I belong in the bronze league any more but I feel my numerous losses when playing zerg might tie me down to this league. I know promotion/league doesn't make much difference to the game/who you play but I feel it is unfair to be banded with people who have just bought the game. I also feel looked down on being in bronze league, even though I feel my play is above bronze standard. |

I promoted with 721 points or so.
Its not about your points but about your MMR. Are you fighting a lot of Silver Leaguers? Winning most of those matches still? Then you will get promoted really soon, keep at it :)

yeah promotion is still possible, i got promoted today so you're still in with a chance. like solid said, if you're playing people in higher leagues then you're about to get promoted. if you did have a lot of losses it might slow down your promotion. i was in a situation like yours last season where i was 3rd place and started to win 70+% of games but poor mmr from the previous season and earlier in the season stopped me getting promoted even after a couple 20 game winning streaks.
If you don't get promoted this season don't worry I'm sure you will get promoted early next season. I've only won 100 1v1's this season and I started in bronze and now I'm in platinum. once you get that mmr positive again you'll be rolling up the leagues. imo there's more variation in bronze than there is in silver/gold combined. I don't feel like my plays changed that much from in my bronze days and I'm good enough for platinum apparently. if you can play your way out of bronze then silver/golds not going to be anything new for you.

There were quite a few losses when I was zerg to be fair, maybe that is slowing things down :( (also, bronze -> plat in the space of a season...wow, gratz!)
I'm not playing silver league players every game, but have been drawn against a few in the past (and even 1 gold player) and haven't lost to anyone from a higher league yet, so maybe that is a good sign :) Suppose I'm just going to have to keep playing and be patient. Thanks guys! |
I have just experienced exactly that! Went on about an 8 game winning streak, games 7 and 8 were against silver so I thought "ok this is going well" since I beat them. Game 9 against another silver. Really, really close game and I just lose. I then start another game and what do you know, back against a bronze player. But not only did it match me to a bronze player. When I started, said player says "gl hf, I'm a noob, only played 5 games lol". I assumed he was just trying to make be drop my guard so just replied "ok" then kept playing as normal. I quickly stroll into his main where he (zerg) at 10 minutes has 1 infestor, about 5 hydras and his queen. This is when I realised what had happened. Went from playing silvers for promotion to playing someone who had literally just bought the game and to top it all off, HE WAS FAVOURED (even though, of the 5 games he had played, he had won 1)! I literally don't have a clue what is going on now... Answers on postcards please! TL;DR: After a 8 game win streak including silver players, I lose a close game against silver then get drawn against a bronze player who has played 5 games and won 1...who is also favoured against me. |

Dont worry match making is weird like that ive played nothing but silvers this week then I lose against one guy from rank 8 gold and im back to bronze players but after i won that match i was back against silvers so it might just be a match making error since the player has a few games played and the system hasnt worked out what to do with him yet
|
Could have been his placement matches. Means the system is still working on his MMR. I wouldn't worry so much about it if I were you mate. Just play, if you win more then you loose (If you keep winnin 5/6 in a row and then loosing one) you will be promoted eventually, trust me :) If 1 loss sets your MMR back that far nobody would go anywhere ^^ |
mo there's more variation in bronze than there is in silver/gold combined. I don't feel like my plays changed that much from in my bronze days and I'm good enough for platinum apparently. if you can play your way out of bronze then silver/golds not going to be anything new for you. Are you playing on the NA server? Because I'm EU gold and if I get matched up against a bronze/silver chances are that I can roll my face across the keyboard at some point in the match and still win, unless maybe if he is top 8 silver and waiting for a promotion. That may also be part of the reason why I play against gold-plat far more often than silver and I haven't seen a bronzie in months. Ontopic: If you win as much as your match history suggests, you should have good chances of a promotion. I don't know about anyone else, but from my experience the easiest way to change leagues is to do really well at the end of a season and then play the placement match of a new season (which is basically where all of my promotions/demotions have come from, no matter if I tried or just ignored the game entirely at the end of a season). |

Seems I just have to keep doing what I'm doing but I'm not quite as concerned with it now as I was when making the thread since I reached #1 in my division (and it sounds impressive enough to outsiders to tide me over until I, hopefully, get the promotion)!
This is a play style that I HAVE to see! I demand a stream/video of the technique in action to make sure I can steal the...build? Can we call it a build? Or is it advanced micro? Who knows. |
