StarCraft Lore

The Story So Far

In the beginning…

Rise of the Confederacy

Long ago four supercarriers loaded with political dissidents and convicts from Earth crash-landed on the distant planets of Tarsonis, Moria, and Umoja.

These hardy and resourceful terrans established colonies and eventually spread to other planets. In time the largest and most technologically advanced of the colonies, Tarsonis, founded a powerful yet oppressive government called the Terran Confederacy.

A bloody rebellion ignited against the Confederacy, led by an ambitious and charismatic ex-prospector named Arcturus Mengsk.

Yet as Mengsk and his Sons of Korhal strove to liberate their terran brethren from the yoke of oppression, a far greater conflict loomed on the horizon….

First Contact

Humanity first learned that it was not alone in the universe when a gleaming fleet of protoss warships emerged over the Confederate planet of Chau Sara and incinerated its surface without warning.

On Chau Sara’s sister planet, Mar Sara, Marshal Jim Raynor found evidence of a second alien presence. Attacks broke out across the planet, and it took the Sons of Korhal to mount any kind of organized resistance to the aliens, which had now become known as the zerg.

Jim Raynor and the rebels evacuated as many people as possible from Mar Sara before the mysterious protoss fleet reappeared and incinerated the planet.

Thoroughly disillusioned with the Confederacy, Raynor joined the Sons of Korhal. On the planet of Antiga Prime, he worked with Mengsk’s second-in-command, Sarah Kerrigan – formerly an elite assassin for the Confederacy – whom Mengsk had liberated from the government’s neural conditioning. Despite a rocky start, Raynor and Kerrigan quickly formed an efficient partnership.

Mengsk stirred up a full-scale revolt against the Confederacy on Antiga Prime. He then employed a psi emitter – a Confederate-designed device that acted as a beacon for the zerg – to destroy the Confederacy’s forces. Soon afterward the protoss incinerated Antiga Prime from orbit, just as they had done to Chau Sara and Mar Sara.

I just noticed something. How many were those people in these 3 ships ? 20 000 if i remember correctly. Now it is the 2500's. How long has it been since they arrived ? Three centuries ? And how fast can humans breed ? Max 15 times a century ?

Ok... 20 000 x 15 x 15 x 15= 67 500 000. Ok first of all from 20 000 to almost 70 000 000 in three centuries. They must have bred like rabbits.

But many terran planets have billions of citizens What am i missing.

@Ölvirki: Propulations grow exponentially... as such they double and double again... your working with simple multiplication rather than compounding your results.

For instance, say each couple had four children... this would mean that the population would double every 20 years. At this rate starting with a population of 20 000 in 20 years your would have 40 000 in 40 years 80 000 in 80 years 160 000 in 100years 320 000 and so on... when your double the population every couple of years you reach a billion pretty quickly... and Some of these families may have had more than 4 children...

@Ventris: OK, if the population doubles every 20 years then the multiply by 32 per century, and i have to say, if people have many children and few die, this could work.
20 000 X 32=640 000
640 000 X 32=20 480 000
32 480 000 X 32=655 360 000
Ok, we are going ti boost the growth more or the time frame, but it is going there.
If we add 50 years and 1-3 children to each couple this would work for sure

@Ölvirki: why argue over a sci-fi story?? probably by then it will be very cheap to raise a child. Or even get paid to do so.. or even have ppl specialized on breeding and raising babies to colonize and rule the world... zerg like :)
Just jokin... nice story, nice game, nice music. love them all. GL HF

@ThorrKraft: Id find it entertaining to talk about population growth. It is pretty cool that 20 000 people grew into many billions in three centuries.
(I know that you were joking) GL HF to you to.

@YourDeath: Yep....

I realized at the end that this is a reasonable growth.

But then again, the terrans seems to be stuck in their new middle ages (futeristic middle ages with cowboy stile). They have advanced little in the last 5 centuries. You can see that by looking at their weapons or the fact that the UED and f.e. the Dominion have the same technology. So they maybe fighting canser or some other diseases.

Overall, it is a reasonable population growth.

I doubt they'd release all the movies in HD, they probably don't even have it themselves.
Besides, if you want to watch the movies, goto a bargain bin and get SC1 :)

"My friends, this is our final hour. Not all of us may survive the coming conflict. Yet, death may be a blessing should we fail here. We seek now to destroy a foe that has ravaged its way across the universe consuming all in its path.
And now it has reached the end of its long journey. The Overmind has come to destroy all that we hold dear and assimilate us into itself. And I say to thee, this shall not come to pass! Aiur shall not fall! Executor, I stand ready!"

Am I the only one who still gets shivers when reading/hearing this?

@Zhyrax: if you saw my post about a starcraft trilogy of films.. would make a great scene in it in big screen with real people. hell millions bought sc2 for£40 or someing thats like 5 billion and wow subscription charges and blizzcon.. would have to have so much money to have good enough SFX for the movie to be epic.
