Zerg

Led by the cunning Queen of Blades, the zerg are set to unleash their alien horrors on the galaxy, threatening to consume all who stand in their way.

When the zerg first arrived in the Koprulu sector, they were unified by their absolute obedience to the zerg collective sentience known as the Overmind. The Overmind directed the actions of every zerg creature in the Swarm, functioning through a hierarchy of lesser sentients. Although the Overmind was primarily driven by its desire to consume and assimilate the advanced protoss race, it found useful but undeveloped material in humanity. By taking a powerful terran psionic, Sarah Kerrigan, the Overmind evolved a new and unique creature: the Queen of Blades. After the protoss destroyed the Overmind during the invasion of Aiur, the Queen of Blades eventually came to dominate the Swarm.

The zerg are entirely unlike the terrans and the protoss. They are composed of many different species that were integrated into the Swarm via zerg infestation. Such creatures are rapidly and selectively evolved into ruthless killing machines to further the driving zerg imperative of achieving absolute domination. The zerg make no use of technology to create their weapons, armor, or starships. Instead, these functions are efficiently fulfilled through biological adaptation and planned mutation of zerg strains. Even zerg structures are in fact specialized organs within the living, growing organism of a zerg nest.

Zerg Characteristics
Strength in Numbers

Left unchecked, the zerg multiply at an alarming rate and spawn large armies quickly. Individual zerg units may not be as strong or as hardy as the other races’ forces, but that doesn’t matter when you’re facing an endless stream of them.

Creep

Zerg bases spread creep, a biological substance that nourishes and sustains the Swarm’s colonies. Creep nourishes zerg units and provides them with a movement speed bonus.

Burrow

All zerg ground units can gain the ability to burrow underground. Burrowed units lurk unseen, anticipating the right moment to strike. Some zerg units can even move underground while burrowed.

We Have Worm Sign

One of the Swarm’s particularly devious developments are Nydus worms. These burrowing horrors can form interconnected networks, allowing zerg units to quickly travel vast distances through their intestinal tunnels. Gross.

@Jordi: It seems that some campaing players did not understand verry well the story or the Wings of liberty end. When Kerrigan is made human again, she can still controll the zergs, she still has controll over the zergs. If you remember from the campaing, Zeratul has a vision on wich he finds out wath the Overmind has saw in feature, and why he create Kerrigan The Queen of Blades to counter the danger from the future. It created the Queen of Blades becose he knew dad he will be half human half overmind or zerg, and becose of that she will not be controled by anyone, and she will controll the zerg. The Overmind knew that when that danger in the future comes, he will be controled along with all the zergs, to destroy all life (to destroy Humans, Protoss and finaly Zergs), you have an example in the final mission with the Protoss: In Utter Darkness, from Profecy Missions (in Zeratul's Vision missions), were the evil voice or the dark voice or what ever, says something like this: "there was one among you, that coud geperdise my plan ..."). Zeratul latter, risks his life and takes that profecy that has verry valuable information and give it to Raynor, and is says to him that Kerrigan must not die or they will all be lost to that big force wich Overmind forsaw in the future, and that big force or danger is the Hibryd race. Probably the 4th future race, or the new race in starcraft 2. I am not shure but from what I listen when the dark voice speaks in the mission "In utter darkness" he hays something like this: "I created you or I was your beginning (tells to protoss this ...) so I will be your end". I am not shure but says something about that, and from what I guess it is ... I think that the "Dark Voice" is a leader or some sort from Xel'naga, don't forget that even Zeratul in Cinematic trailer named "The Prophecy" when he goes to that underground temple or old town of Xel'naga were he meets Kerrigan and fight a little, he says something when he reads the Xel'naga prophecy on the wall, something like "... Now the Xel'naga that forged us all, are returning. But do they come to save or to destroy ? ..." You see that even Zeratul is asking him self if the Xel'naga come to destroy or to save, not even him knows fur sure, he suspects that Xel'naga want's to destroy his first two creations and make a new one. Please excuse my bad english.

I cant wait for the NEXT! I loved the story and I love Blizzard, bhin waiting 12 years for this :P To bad that the story was a bit short, but hey! DAM what a kvality! Thank you blizzard! In the future you need to make a movie from it! 3D or real I dont mind! Just dont change anny thing of the story! :D

i wonder if it would be possible to infest a terran building and produce infested units fro that like you infest a barracks with a tech lab to make infested marauders and reapers and marines mayby ghosts

how come i seen in the singel player campain , with the protoss bind / dream campain the old self killing flying zergs that use for killing air ? forgot the name.. or are does like i have seen on Gametrailers the old blood wars ground spike zergs why are does gone too ? i have seen them ? in the video

@JACO: The scourge are the kamikaze guys, and the Lurkers (evolved from Hydralisks in BroodWar) are the ground spikes. They ain't in any more, there are other units to balance the loss though.

@eXcellenCe: yes but remember blizz is doing the next two campaings, and I think that some old units or units that you only saw in terran campaing, will come back in the next two new campaings.

My race of choice, mostly because they're the ones I played in SC:BW
I am still working on the tactics, and right now I always zergling rush, and go mutalisks afterwards, no matter what race/tactics my enemy goes. I'm simply learning what is good agains what.
I'm trying to find a good tactic for going hydralisks as fast as possible, as I am used to being able to build it w/o a Lair.
