Units

Battlecruiser

These massive, heavily armored combat ships are virtual flying fortresses, built to keep the peace and dominate the space lanes of the Koprulu sector. Bristling laser batteries and thick neosteel armor make these imposing vessels some of the most powerful in Terran space. As such, many commanders use Battlecruisers as their headquarters during extended campaigns. Research has led to the development of alternative weapon and defense upgrades, including the dreaded Yamato Cannon.

Flight Manual

  • Capital ship that can attack air and ground targets.
  • This vessel can absorb and dish out large amounts of punishment. Use it to draw enemy fire while your ground troops move in for the kill, or to break into well-defended islands.
  • Use their Yamato Cannon to take out enemy defensive structures or key targets, and clear a path for your smaller units. Six Battlecruisers armed with this weapon can take out a command structure in one shot.
  • Follow them with SCVs set to auto-repair to increase their longevity.
  • Their movement speed is slow, so be sure to either protect them well or field so many that the enemy has no chance of stopping them.
  • When attacking ground units, if terrain allows, position your Battlecruisers above obstacles or cliffs to deny the enemy the chance to retaliate.

Fusion Core Upgrades

  • Weapon Refit: Enables Battlecruisers to use the Yamato Cannon.
  • Behemoth Reactor: Increases the starting energy of Battlecruisers by 25.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Get a sizable force of Vikings and focus fire. Watch out for the enemy’s own anti-air units or ground support.
  • Engage with a very large force of Stimpacked Marines with Medivac support. Focus fire is crucial.
VS Zerg
  • Attack with a large number of Corruptors and focus fire the cruisers.
  • Spawn Hydralisks and research the Grooved Spines upgrade. Try to fight them in the open.
VS Protoss
  • Engage Battlecruisers with Void Rays.
  • Surround the vessels with a very large force of Stalkers with Blink.
  • Use the High Templar Feedback ability to drain energy from a Battlecruiser and deal damage at the same time.

With 3 3 this thing is good balanced, maybe a little OP but its cost is way to high for early game. With 0 0 or 1 1 its way to weak, i mean 3 shot a marine? No splash damage? No splash on the yamato? The thor is way beter, except for the flying part...

BCs are are good for showing off, just like the mothership. However, their yamato guns are good for spike damage against tougher opponents.. you are actually buying a yamato gun after all

@DrAgOnX: about the mothership... i'm actually sorry that they remove it in hots... from what i saw in latest pro games it has found its place in PvZ... used almost in any macro game. I must say... vortex is REALLY good if you know how to use it... and neural parasiting the mothership is very awesome...

BC is useless for those, who use it like part of aicraft. (its not big son of viking and banshee)
its perfekt umbrela for marines, especially when void rain is comming. and finally its nice surprises for enemies discovering these cloaked rifles.

IMO BC is useless.
Anti-Air=Viking
Air to Ground(or Air to Soil if you will)=Banshee
Both the viking and banshee is much better at their task, and WTF! NO GODDAMN SPLASH ON YAMATO?!

@achristes: I find the only thing the Battlecruiser is to 'bait' the enemy into overcompensating with anti-air while you build up your ground forces.

It's just ridicolous that vikings seem almost as big as battlecruisers......................vikings house only a pilot while cruisers house 400-500 people and yet the viking is half as big as the battlecruiser................seriously.....they should be like an ant and an eagle compared to each other.............make them look really big!

@Szkandi: Lol dude, i get your point but not everything is done to scale, obviously. Sprites need to be manageable and playable.. having huge BCs and tiny larvae would make it very difficult to control and/or manipulate in combat

ABANDON SHIP. I still have not used this units in multiplayer once, at the point they get minorly effective which is when theres like ten of them, your opponent has either leveled your buildings or has been massing anti air and will take these down in seconds. Useless unit imo.

@Herbanisti: Not true, with a sizeable army this vessel is a great support ship that can turn the tides of battle. You can pump out a single Battlecruiser fairly soon int the game, around 90 supply, where you either encounter marines marauders and siege tanks, roaches and hydras or, with protoss stalkers, all of wich can be defeated when supported

Anyone sels noticed that a single Battlecruiser deals about the same damage as 1-2 Marines. It's clearly made to withstand damage rather than deal it (unless you have the Yamato Cannon).
