Battlecruiser

These massive, heavily armored combat ships are virtual flying fortresses, built to keep the peace and dominate the space lanes of the Koprulu sector. Bristling laser batteries and thick neosteel armor make these imposing vessels some of the most powerful in Terran space. As such, many commanders use Battlecruisers as their headquarters during extended campaigns. Research has led to the development of alternative weapon and defense upgrades, including the dreaded Yamato Cannon.

Flight Manual

  • Capital ship that can attack air and ground targets.
  • This vessel can absorb and dish out large amounts of punishment. Use it to draw enemy fire while your ground troops move in for the kill, or to break into well-defended islands.
  • Use their Yamato Cannon to take out enemy defensive structures or key targets, and clear a path for your smaller units. Six Battlecruisers armed with this weapon can take out a command structure in one shot.
  • Follow them with SCVs set to auto-repair to increase their longevity.
  • Their movement speed is slow, so be sure to either protect them well or field so many that the enemy has no chance of stopping them.
  • When attacking ground units, if terrain allows, position your Battlecruisers above obstacles or cliffs to deny the enemy the chance to retaliate.

Fusion Core Upgrades

  • Weapon Refit: Enables Battlecruisers to use the Yamato Cannon.
  • Behemoth Reactor: Increases the starting energy of Battlecruisers by 25.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Get a sizable force of Vikings and focus fire. Watch out for the enemy’s own anti-air units or ground support.
  • Engage with a very large force of Stimpacked Marines with Medivac support. Focus fire is crucial.
VS Zerg
  • Attack with a large number of Corruptors and focus fire the cruisers.
  • Spawn Hydralisks and research the Grooved Spines upgrade. Try to fight them in the open.
VS Protoss
  • Engage Battlecruisers with Void Rays.
  • Surround the vessels with a very large force of Stalkers with Blink.
  • Use the High Templar Feedback ability to drain energy from a Battlecruiser and deal damage at the same time.

@Herbanisti: Not true, with a sizeable army this vessel is a great support ship that can turn the tides of battle. You can pump out a single Battlecruiser fairly soon int the game, around 90 supply, where you either encounter marines marauders and siege tanks, roaches and hydras or, with protoss stalkers, all of wich can be defeated when supported

They should do the same amount of damage to air and ground.

Anyone sels noticed that a single Battlecruiser deals about the same damage as 1-2 Marines. It's clearly made to withstand damage rather than deal it (unless you have the Yamato Cannon).

IMO bc is actually pretty useless unit if used against terran. Thats because vikings have longer range and they can shoot and then back and shot and back... although if u have 8 of these and attack and enemy hasnt got vikings/voidrays/corruptors he is screwed

i still think they should have made battlecruisers, carriers and motherships a bit bigger on screen. It is rather odd to see these MASSIVE ships appear so small ... another touch would be to have battlecruisers always fly a bit higher then other air units like vikings, not on the same level ... ANYWAY ! they still need to add something to realy make em feel big, in my opinion. cheerz!

Just played a game, was mauled with 8 or so Battlecrusiers. I had 3 void rays focusing fire on one BC, I think they had the upgrade, and it did next to nothing. What is that about???

@Matt: what upgrade? and why are you expecting 3 of your earliest ships to be able to take out 9 of the terran endgame units?

@theJ: Possibles he meant the extra speed upgrade. The voids need time to power up their weapons ion order to do any significant damage. And besides, only 3 would have been torn to shreds by just 4 BCs in seconds.

Well, black hole just takes them out of the game for a few seconds, it doesn't damage them. A mothership is actually very vulnerable against these because it moves so slow, especially if the battlecruiser(s) has/have yamato researched

@Nyghtshadow: Actually, you can combine the mothership with void rays, use the vortex to seal away.... let's say half the enemy army, allowing the voids to focus fire down the remaining cruisers. Due to the difference in speed, there is no way the cruisers are gonna be able to run away. By the time the Vortex dissipates, the cruisers left to fight will be either dead or dying, and the voids will be fully charged.... and after that there is only pain...

when that happens i usualy take the rest of my BC down the vortex.. bad thing is that the protoss gets a chance to regroup... good thing is that the rest of the BCs that didnt get vortexed wont get overpowered by supirior toss forces.
