Units

Brood Lord

These massive manta-like flying creatures serve as aerial siege units for the Swarm. Only seen in the largest of conflicts, the Brood Lord has the ability to spit out biological symbiotes that function as living ammunition. These regurgitated creatures focus on their target, ravaging it until they destroy it or die in the attempt. This attack makes Brood Lords extremely dangerous to opposing installations. However, despite their impressive offensive abilities, Brood Lords are not very durable, and they make easy targets for most aerial-strike combatants.

General Strategy

  • Anti-ground flying unit.
  • Evolves from Corruptor.
  • Flings broodlings, which do high levels of damage to ground- based units and can surround them.
  • Broodlings cannot attack air units, and have a limited lifespan.
  • Effective siege unit due to its long-ranged attack and ability to fly.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Build Vikings to efficiently take down Brood Lords without any retaliation. Battlecruisers are also effective against Brood Lords and can destroy them in one hit with their Yamato Cannon upgrade.
  • The biggest strength of Brood Lords is their ability to create massive numbers of Broodlings. Take Brood Lords out instantly using ghosts and their snipe ability to prevent this.
VS Zerg
  • Anti-air flying units like Corruptors can engage Brood Lords and pursue them throughout an area effortlessly without any fear of being targeted in return.
  • Anti-air ground units such as Hydralisks, though obviously less ideal than flying units, can provide a defense against Brood Lords when massed.
VS Protoss
  • Brood Lords can be handily dispatched by air units that they can’t reach, such as Carriers, Phoenixes, and especially Void Rays – the Rays’ ’Prismatic Beam’ will quickly wear away at Brood Lords’ hit points.

Lovely creatures. I really like using them against Marines as nearby Siege tanks bomb the Broodlings attacking the Marines and kill even more Marines for me. Happy bugs. The animated image of it's face/head up there is really cool, I really like how animated the mouthparts are.

always fun to use on an AI. About the only time you have time to get the prerequisites and actually make it. But hey, fun none the less.

Amazing unit, but expensive and wont be used unless the game is taking a while, and rush teching is nearly impossible.

Also we want our Lurkers back!

I still think these things should evolve from Mutalisks not Corruptors when you consider the looks of the thing.. It doesn't look ANYTHING like a Corruptor.. But it does look like a beefed up version of the Glaive Worm shooting Mutalisk. Where the worms turn into broodlings..

Why this creature doesn't mutate from mutalisk? Mutalisk gives his name because of the mutating ability, but in sc2 he can't do that, corruptor does. Is's inconsistency. Just in case.

This unit is very great when you have a terran enemy and you wont let him expand, and play in defence. Because he is bound to put siege tanks up, and when you fire little broodlings at them they will blow each other up, causing a quick GG :D

If mutas could mutate into Guardians and Devourers as well - more units more fun. Broodlords could shoot scourges to air targets. Terran got Battlecruiser, Prottoss got Carrier and Mothership, why Zerg could not have some flying Behemmoth monsrosity ;).

@DinoCop: The races are all unique; by giving them the same units you make the races less diverse.

@DinoCop: dont make the mothership seem like a good thing :P it has unique abilities but for the price it does very little damage. Mass recall is good for retreating. Vortex is useless unless you just want to stall.

the best thing about the unit is the supply, its only 4 :D also, take some mutas with it and allmost all units can be cleared, corrupters don't work very well with them since the are venerable to the units you need to defend against, vikings/void rays/corrupters(well, it gives you more work on spamming corrupter to counter your foes corrupters)

Quite nasty things, especially on the mission before the final one, where you need to destroy the orbital platforms to clear out the air reinforcements.

I don't know why but marines, stalkers and hydras kill easy broodlords, except in case they are loads of them, i think they should have some little changes and make them look a bit more to the old guardian (fast attack slow movement and goodbye broodlings) or maybe increasing a bit their attack speed it should be sufficent, duno.
