Units

Medivac

Post-Brood War military analysis determined that 37% of Dominion troops serving in the field sustained heavy injuries and were removed from the combat zone for medical attention. This was an alarming statistic with disastrous implications: soldiers were in medical bays instead of en route to the front lines. Under Emperor Mengsk’s personal order, the Dropship was redesigned with medical technology to serve dual streamlined purposes – transportation and triage – thereby keeping Dominion Marines in the field longer, regardless of injury. It did not take long for the Umojan Protectorate and the Kel-Morian Combine to adopt this innovation as well.

Flight Manual

  • Armored transport craft that has the ability to heal biological units.
  • Use it to deploy squads of units on key enemy positions.
  • Before setting off on a mission, scout the enemy base and the map to see what defenses/obstacles you may come up against. Remember that sometimes the fastest route to the target is not the best.
  • Escort your Medivacs with a few Vikings on long flights.
  • If you are using Marines or Marauders, be sure to have Stimpacks. The Medivacs’ healing ability will allow you to use it often.
  • Press the M hotkey and then click on one of your infantry units to make the Medivac follow it. If you right click on any ground unit, the Medivac will pick them up instead.
  • Use the Ignite Afterburners ability to get to your destination quicker. It can also help bypass defenses or escape from danger.

Tech Lab Upgrades

  • Caduceus Reactor: increases starting energy of all Medivacs by 25.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Place Missile Turrets in key points around your base to prevent surprise drops. Building a Sensor Tower is an excellent idea too.
  • Use Vikings to destroy the Medivacs.
VS Zerg
  • Have Spore Crawlers in key points of your base to make it harder for the enemy to drop units on your base. Deploy spine crawlers at critical drop locations.
  • Spawn Mutalisks to intercept enemy Medivacs.
  • Get Hydralisks, and make sure to research the Grooved Spines upgrade.
VS Protoss
  • Build a few Photon Cannons behind your mineral line.
  • Get Stalkers and research Blink, then use them to focus fire the Medivacs down. Use Blink to cut them off if they try to escape.
  • Use the High Templar’s Feedback ability to drain their energy and destroy them. If they manage to unload units in your base, use Psionic Storm to kill them.
  • Phoenixes and Void Rays can take out Medivacs quite easily.

Medivac is excesive efective and cost be too few. 100/100 is insufficiently. Medivac is transporter and can healt. Healing and repairing is too OP. My proposal:
- Medivac is only transporter. Healing must be research in Starport Tech Lab 200/200.
- Healing cost is increased from 3 HP / 1 energy to 2 HP / 1 energy.

- SCV repairing cost always minerals and gas !
- 1 mechanical unit or structure can be repairing max 3 SCVs simultaneously.

this unit is all but love combined with the Maruader and Marines :D

that depends :)

like siege tanks can't target medivacs :)

and now you don't need to train medic and transporter separately and time spent :)

its all-in-one unit now :D

I still miss my medics... :( I mean fine Medivacs arn't, completely, useless but they got nothing on regular medics.

Medics were/is cheaper, more cost efficent, you get/got them earlier and they did NOT get targeted by anti-air units! >< I am sorry if i sound angry but seriously Blizzard, didn't you think about the fact that marines and maruders wouldn't be able to get healed in enemy bases as long as their anti-air turrets/units still were up?

*Sigh* alright, alright im calm again. Im sorry Blizzard i still like the game and many other of your games. :D
It is just the fact that i think that medivacs arn't as good as medics.

@FreddeX: I was unaware that medics were able to attach other infantry, tanks, and thors to their belts and jump behind the enemies mineral line.
Also, the fact that its damn near impossible for a human to hover in the air for more than a microsecond without a vacuum or a huge ass fan means medivacs have another factor that makes them preferable.

Oh i just love when i masa marines and vacs then when i do a drop with 10 marines and like 5 vacs to my opponents base he engages me with around 50 zerglings when the battle is over all that is left is my marines and 50 dead zerglings, this unit is just SLIGHTLY overpowered.

this unit is slightly OP.. it forces zerg players to go banelings.. any zerg unit melts to MMM balls.. only real effective counter for that is speedy banelings or perhaps protected broodloords.. anything else really melts like butter in a hot pan.

I`m sure this "healer" would be more suitable for using in multyplayer if got the ability to heal 2 units in the same time a la campaign, but, when healing 2 units, the speed of healing will be redused by 0,75. perhaps there will be needed 2 abilities: either heal 1 unit with full healing strength, or healing 2 units with 0,75 healing strength. Only one of them can be set to autocast, so it will be more fun when combining several medivacs with different healing ways set

ATTENTION: The backstory at the top of this page contradicts the backstory given in the game. According to the ingame explanation, the Medivac was invented by Medics who got sick of walking (basically). Could some mod or something swing by and tell us which story is correct?
