Probe

Originally designed by the Khalai caste to lay the foundation for Protoss settlements, Probes are robotic drones that service the Nexus and gather the numerous resources needed to power Protoss technologies. Probes also manufacture and plant the micro-beacons that anchor the teleport matrices of structures. These beacons allow the Protoss to warp in prefabricated structures from their homeworld. Often Probes are used as rudimentary spies, sent ahead to survey the potential locations of enemy encampments.

General Strategy

  • Light unit used to construct buildings and gather resources. They can only attack ground targets.
  • Highly vulnerable to enemy attacks and will likely be high -priority targets, so protecting them is essential.
  • If you have no other options, groups of them can be used to repel an early rush.
  • Probes summon in buildings instead of constructing them, so a single probe can summon as many structures as you have the resources for.
  • Use the Nexus’s Chrono Boost ability to increase production early in the game or whenever you require more Probes.

no, all types of workers suck against units like marauders, stalker and roaches (due to their 1 armor) and their good amount of health, however! all types of workers are good to fend of 6 pool's and maybe 1 zealot or 2-3 marine rushes

@Counterfear: Probes/drones/SCVS will never attack without your command since they are not meant for attacking. If you want to attack with your workers, then tell them to do it, and get ready to lose!

aye, the unit damage in the unit pane gets on your nerves if you're used to playing Zerg or Terran, but it's definitly a nice touch - keeps the races distinct. That being said, there's quite likely to be some sort of heal-trick available in the Protoss campaign (when it comes) - just none in multiplayer.

It's a racial thing, Protoss couldn't repair their buildings in the original Starcraft, either. That's why you have shields. Of course it's possible a Protoss unit in a future expansion has a spell that repairs structures or heals units. Doesn't seem very likely, though.

@LastDay: Or a Dark Templar could restore a units shield more quickly. Let's say: an aoe the size of the psionic storm to bring the units up to full shields.

@LastDay: in sc and sc:bw there were shield batteries, they recharged like 3 shield per 1 point of energy but it got removed in sc2 since it were a bit too powerfull if you had many enough + a strong tanking unit....imagine 3 batteries and immortal, carrier or maybe a mothership, they'll never die o.O
