Siege Tank

The Crucio is the Dominion’s replacement for the popular but aging Arclite Siege Tank. Originally designed to be a defensive security cannon, the Arclite utilized a two-stage configuration: a mobile Tank Mode and a static, long-range Siege Mode. The inherent flexibility of this model was a great success. The new Crucio has been designed for increased survivability, with an enlarged, reinforced turret and hull. The turret layout also features an upgraded Tank-Mode armament package, allowing the Crucio to defend itself more successfully in open battlefields. The Crucio is costlier than its predecessor, but its increased versatility justifies the additional expense.

Driver’s Handbook

  • Armored unit that can attack ground targets.
  • Its mobile cannon is most effective against other armored units and structures.
  • Provides devastating artillery strikes from long range when deployed in Siege Mode, but it cannot move.
  • Excellent for base defense, especially if deployed behind a choke point or in elevated positions.
  • Placement is crucial to use them effectively.
  • Needs a spotter to achieve maximum firing range.

Tech Lab Upgrades

  • Siege Tech: Deploys the shock cannon, which boasts longer range and very high area damage.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Launch Banshees to neutralize them.
  • Build a few Ravens and deploy Auto-Turrets close to the enemy.
  • Use Medivacs to drop Marauders and Thors right on top of them. Avoid frontal land assaults.
VS Zerg
  • Spawn Mutalisks and use them to eliminate the Siege Tank threat.
  • Research Tunneling Claws to move your Roaches undetected towards the tanks. Once you are right under them, send Zerglings in to draw their fire and then strike.
VS Protoss
  • Create a few Immortals; their Hardened Shields reduce the damage of each Shock Cannon blast to 10.
  • Construct Phoenixes and cast Graviton Beam on the tanks.
  • Train a large force of Zealots and research charge. Be sure to attack from different directions, and to click on the tanks instead of using the attack-move command.

like the Tiger 2 - 105 mm gun or Maus - 128 mm gun ...

@RaTTleTrAP: yes yes, but they do one shot a bunch of lings/banelings, as well as tur hydras into pizza in 2 shots, is a bit too powerful against certain targets. maybe make it deal 30 damage and +25 vs armoured, this should make it a better late game unit, and make supporting marines useful vs ground targets, while making seige tanks less 1-hit-KO.
"its just you" isn't the most creative thing ive read, buts its better then "its you" xD

If the enemy sieges the entrace with tanks you can just use medivacs as dropships and drop off at their base and hit their economie. They will be forced to attack you, and tanks are a lot weaker on the move.

Best Terran land unit after Marines. If you have 15+ of these "soviets" (the portrait looks like some militant crazy soviet sadist) and you siege them below the oponents ramp, if he doesnt spot you just throw a scan or two on the ramp and watch his face melt down when his whole blockade vaporized within 10 seconds

Arclite model was better! 70 splash dmg on siege mode ( + 5 per upgrade ). Crucio is just nerfed Siege Tank >:( that's just the truth Blizz just fears to say it :/

@Dukie: no they aren't they fire faster and with enough upgrades they even have a higher dps plus the BW startegy of running a zergling into them to make them reload while the rest of your army came up the ramp can no longer be used because of the firing rate

there is no way a stank is weak against zerglings it one it hi KO's them and the spalsh is egnough to kill 5 at a time and if they're behind a wall the zerglings will all die before they get to the wall if you have egnough there generally really good at killing units with little hp or that are armored the only thing the can't kill is a immortal

@DocYamato: Yes, but a tank can only gett off one or two shots before it gets surrounded.
Just in case you were unaware, a tank in seige wont shoot enemies that are too close to it.

@azerothen: You must always protect your tanks with infantry units like marines or marauders. A tank is very fragile with only 160hp. Tanks is splash support not a front line unit.

@frestation: I did mention that if they are behind a wall it works or behind a really tight choke not the open battle field because then they get surrounded and die but if your enemy can't get to them fast egnough they will murder whatever it is that is coming but you will still need support against large hp units

Some of these by your blocked off ramp together with a few turrets around the rest of the base can pretty much hold off any zerg attack except brood lords.

I remember when Dungeon Siege Tank was probably good against all ground units, but now it is just a little because it does not bounce or Hydralisk .... in the original StarCraft is to do away kusy.Mel would restore his classic attack +60 damage.

Siege tanks are strong against marines and hydralisks, and weak against thors, immortals, and zerglings.

Since I don't like Siege tanks blowing up my Dark Templars and Zealots I tought it would help a bit if I posted this.
Basicly its strong against all infantry units. It blows most of em away with 1 shot, even after the patch.

Any good defense starts with a bunker, 2 AA guns and at least 2 Siege tanks... Oops now I helped the Terran players. Ofcourse most of them already know this. I think the Terrans are a defensive race. As the Zerg are more offensive and Protoss balanced in between.

Still if you play against a Protoss player, you should always build AA guns. It will defend you against multiple foes. Since they can detect Dark Templars and destroy Voids. Just my 2 cents.

@ForcesNL: What do you mean weak against Zerglings? The Siege Mode deals area damage and is perfect against Zerglings. It can kill a lot of them in no time. Of course you have to protect the tank with buildings or other units, but that's the whole point of the unit anyways.

@ForcesNL: You would need like 50 zerglings to kill one of these so I don't really see how Siege Tanks are weak against zerglings. If you put these behins a wall of buildings or other units these could easily pick off any number of zerglings in a matter of seconds

@ForcesNL: Ok, terrans Can get an extreme defense, but they are good offensive too! Thats all i wanted to say. And by the way, you can kill a siege tank whit like 3-4 zerglings and thats just so fun!

VS Terran... A screenshot of Terran VS Zerg is out of place here I guess...

The Crucio is a great replacement of an aging Arclite Siege Tank. Now with it's damage getting cut by a nice third in 1.1 patch... Big enhancement in Terran weaponary. Way to go. The enlarged and reinforced turret and hull seem to help a lot I see.

Seriously though, why max armor 1+4? I thought there's only +3 for any Terran tech availible. Missing something?

@GraaD: The "+4" means it'll have 4 armour after full upgrades. It explains it if you hover over the "+4". Really darn confusing, though :/ I think the Crucio was originally intended to change the siege tanks role into more of a tank, and less of an unpacking artillery piece. The bit about Crucios being "better" could easily be explained away by the fact that everyting else is better too. This was probably changed at some point however, as the current design acts EXACTLY like the ol' arclite.
