Warp Prism

For thousands of years the Protoss have studied the nature of time and space, gaining insight into the universe’s greatest mysteries. Using psionic manufacturing processes, they created a robotic mind whose programming is built into the molecules of an advanced crystal lattice. The resulting device is able to manipulate matter and energy with incredible precision. Warp Prisms are used primarily to transport forces on the battlefield, but they can also be deployed into Phasing Mode so as to power nearby structures if necessary. When Warp Prisms are in this mode, they can temporarily replace destroyed Pylons or enable rapid expansion.

General Strategy

  • Armored transport craft that can ferry units across the battlefield.
  • Can shift to Phasing Mode to project an energy field like the Pylon, which provides power to Protoss structures. The energy field also allows for the warping in of units and construction of structures.
  • Can pick up and drop off units in both Transport and Phasing Mode.
  • Raid enemy bases efficiently by unloading troops in, switching to Phasing Mode and warping in reinforcements via your Warp Gates.

Upgrades

  • Gravitic Drive: Passive bonus to the Warp Prism’s movement speed.

Countermeasures

VS Terran
  • Build Missile Turrets around your mineral line to discourage drops.
  • Build a few Vikings to intercept Warp Prisms.
  • Use Marines, preferably with Stimpacks, to bring them down quickly.
VS Zerg
  • Build Spore Crawlers around your mineral line to discourage drops. Be sure to attack the enemy ships with your Queen as well.
  • Spawn Mutalisks,; their flight speed will ensure the enemy will have a hard time getting away.
  • Use Hydralisks and research the Grooved Spines upgrade.
VS Protoss
  • Build Photon Cannons around your mineral line to discourage drops.
  • Use Stalkers and research Blink to more effectively give chase to invading Warp Prisms.
  • Deploy a few Phoenix fighters to eliminate the enemy transports.

The best way to use this unit is to replace the proxy pylon wtih this and have a WP at the back of their base (out of their line of sight) lead a distraction with a small portion of you army and warp in dark templars in their base to completely decimate their mineral line and take out the command centers (nexus, hatchery's) first, then keep warping in units for the frontal assualt while warping in Dark templars from the back. Guaranteed GG. (if there is too much detection with the first assualt, mass up a bunch of them and morph them into archons)

I think they should have 1 armor, they are less durable then the other transports! and before anyone says anything even after this upgrade they will still be less durable than the other transports, come on! they are considered armored.

The Warp Prism cannot drop units and go to phasing mode at the same time - it will cancel out the dropping of units. Can that be fixed? It is highly annoying.

Most beautiful unit (visualy) in SC2 IMO, also very, very, very handy unit. It can deliver so much and has no attack :D

One of my favourite units.
They're really good to keep your units replenished in the heat of the battle.
Can be psychologically daunting to new players when they see a couple Warp Prisms, then, a few seconds later, an entire Protoss army is dropped and warped in. =D

Also, a funny thing, place a couple, filled with units inside an enemy's sensory array. Then, when they come to investigate, surprise! Drop and warp!

Perfect for Warp gate sneak attacks and for countering "deprive protoss buildings from energy"

@Erelorial: On countering "deprive protoss buildings from energy".... The problem here is: 1. This requires you to have Warp Prisms ready to go into this role when your enemy attacks, which costs 200 minerals per "pylon", not counting the micro you will not get to focus on your troops. 2. If the enemy has gotten into your base, then they will have the firepower to bring those precious Warp Prisms down in seconds - these thing go down almost as fast as Marines.... 3. If you've got Warp Prisms in your base, why would your enemy go for your Pylons, as opposed to, say, your Nexus + Probes?

@theJ: The things is that if you have successfully repelled an enemy attac, but have some buildings "offline", you don't have to waste time waiting for a pylon to be rebuilt -- you can have a prism in phasing mode for that time. This isn't a ground-breaking strategy, but can come in handy now and then.
