Pet Store FAQ

Keywords: PETSTORE, pet

Why did you introduce this service?

The Pet Store provides a new way for players to obtain unique companion pets and mounts outside of the game, which is something that has been requested by many players who enjoy World of Warcraft's mounts and non-combat companions.

Will more companions or mounts be available for purchase in the future?

We plan to add more to the Pet Store in the near future. Keep an eye on the official World of Warcraft website and the online Blizzard Store for details.

Where can I go to purchase these pets or the mount?

You can purchase these in-game companions by visiting this link or heading to the online Blizzard Store, where you'll find the Pet Store pets under the Collectibles tab.

Will I be able to acquire these Pet Store pets by questing, through holidays, on in-game vendors, or by any other in-game methods?

Most of the pets or mounts purchasable through the Pet Store will not be obtainable through quests or other in-game means -- they're only available through the online Blizzard Store. The one exception is the Guardian Cub pet, which players can trade to each other in-game. See the Guardian Cub Pet section below for more details on how this unique pet works.

How do I redeem a Pet Store pet or mount once it's been purchased from the Blizzard Store?

There are a couple different ways to receive the pets or mounts. In most cases, after you purchase the pet or mount, you'll receive a code that can then be redeemed on any individual World of Warcraft account via Battle.net Account Management. Simply select "Item Code Redemption" or visit this link. You don't need to redeem the code on the same Battle.net account that made the initial purchase – feel free to send the code to a friend as a gift. Furthermore, you are required to have an active account in order to redeem the pet or mount code.

The one exception is the Guardian Cub pet. Rather than receive a code, you will be prompted to choose a single character on a single World of Warcraft account to receive the pet at the time you make your purchase. See the Guardian Cub Pet section below for more details.

Please understand the codes are specific to each region so they must be used in the region where purchased.

Will these pets or the mount count toward pet- or mount-related achievements?

These Pet Store pets and the mount will count toward the total number of pets or mounts a character has for achievements like Plethora of Pets, Lil' Game Hunter, or Leading the Cavalry.

Will these pets help me in combat?

No, these pets are strictly cosmetic. They have some fun animations and sound effects, but they will not help you in PvP or PvE.

What characters will receive the Pet Store pet or mount that I purchase?

With the exception of the Guardian Cub, once you redeem your code on an individual World of Warcraft account, every character on the account will receive the pet or mount in their in-game mailbox (including any characters you create in the future). If you wish to purchase the pet or mount for multiple different World of Warcraft accounts merged with the same Battle.net account, you will need to buy a separate pet or mount for each World of Warcraft account individually.

The Guardian Cub pet works differently; upon purchase, it's granted to a single character on a single World of Warcraft account. For more information, see the Guardian Cub section below.

If a character transfers off of the account where the pet or mount is bound the pet or mount will be lost.

How long will these Pet Store pets and the mount be available?

We do not currently have any plans to remove these pets or the mount from the Pet Store. The Blizzard Store purchasing page will provide information on any changes to availability.

In what regions are these pets and mounts available?

The Pet Store pets and the mount are available only to players on realms located in North America, Europe, and Korea. A Battle.net account is required in order to redeem the pet or mount.

How do the Pet Store mounts work?

As with all other mounts in the game, the Pet Store mounts will automatically upgrade in ability and speed as the player advances in Riding skill. For example, the Pet Store mounts will run at normal (60%) ground speed if the character knows Apprentice Riding, and epic (100%) ground speed with Journeyman Riding. The mount will be able to fly at 150% flight speed with Expert Riding, at 280% flight speed with Artisan Riding, and at 310% speed with Master Riding. Players will also need the Cold Weather Flying skill to fly in Northrend and the Flight Master's License to fly in Kalimdor or the Eastern Kingdoms..

GUARDIAN CUB PET

How does the Guardian Cub pet work? How is it different from other Pet Store pets?

Unlike the other Pet Store companions, the Guardian Cub is a tradable, one-time-use pet that permanently binds to a single character upon use. When you purchase the Guardian Cub from the online store, the character you designate will receive a bind-on-use item to carry in his or her inventory. You can either use the item yourself to permanently add the pet to your character's collection (consuming the item in the process), or -- after a 24 hour initial cooldown period -- you can trade the item to another player so he or she can add it to one of their character's collections. Note that once the pet has been added to a character's Companions list, it can no longer be traded, so make sure you're giving the cub a happy home.

Will I be able to carry more than one Guardian Cub at a time?

While a character can only have one Guardian Cub in his or her Companions list, you can have as many in your inventory as you like. Please note that Guardian Cub item does not stack, so each one will take up a bag or bank slot.

How much does the Guardian Cub cost in the Pet Store?

The Guardian Cub will be priced the same as the other Pet Store pets ($10 USD). It's also important to note that all sales of the Guardian Cub are final, and players will not be able to receive a refund once they've made their purchase.Q: At BlizzCon, you announced that some companion pets would become account-bound with the release of Mists of Pandaria. Will that apply to the Guardian Cub?Due to the nature of the pet, the Guardian Cub will remain bound to a single character with the release of Mists of Pandaria.

Plush Pets

How do the Wind Rider Cub and Gryphon Hatchling plush pets work as part of the Pet Store?

These plush pets are special collectibles that also come with a code to claim the in-game version of the respective pet. These codes can be redeemed on any individual World of Warcraft account through Battle.net Account Management and selecting "Item Code Redemption" or by visiting this link.

Are there any faction restrictions regarding who can redeem the in-game Wind Rider Cub or Gryphon Hatchling pets?

No, both Alliance and Horde characters can redeem either or both of these pets.

Do you have plans to add more plush pets to the Pet Store?

Currently we have no plans to do this but we will post an update on eu.battle.net if anything changes.

Does this mean you'll be introducing more services like this in the future? Will you be introducing the ability to buy epic weapons/etc. in the future, for example?

As with the pets, mounts, and other items players can obtain through Loot cards from the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, Pet Store pets are purely cosmetic and just for fun. Like other paid services we offer, such as Paid Name Changes, Race Changes, and Character Re-Customizations, the Pet Store service is entirely optional and intended to provide players another means to enjoy World of Warcraft in a way that isn't detrimental to the game and that doesn't detract from the gameplay experience for players who choose not to use the service.
